The Rosary Catholic Primary School 23 rd February 2018 God of mercy, you ask us to listen to your Son, Jesus. Open our ears to hear your Word and fill our hearts with your love so that we may change our lives and so change the lives of others. Amen. Weekly Prayer and Reflection – Second Sunday in Lent (Year B) Mark 9:2-10 Reflection taken from Cafod Children’s Liturgy Jesus went up a mountain to be alone with his friends, the disciples Peter, James and John. While he was on the mountain, a great change came over him. His clothes became bright and shining white and Elijah and Moses appeared and talked to him. How did Peter, James and John feel when they saw the change that had happened to Jesus? Why were they frightened? Then a cloud came over and Jesus’s friends heard a voice, saying “This is my Son, the Beloved. Listen to him.” Whose voice do you think this was? What do you think Peter, James and John must have felt when they heard God speaking to them from the cloud? A huge change came over Jesus on the mountain and the disciples saw his true loving self, shining through like the rays of the sun. If we listen to Jesus and spend time with God in our hearts then we too can let our true light shine brightly. For example, we could be kinder to other people, or extra helpful. Why not try closing your eyes, sit very still and listen very carefully. You can hear so much more when you really take time to listen. So how do you think we can best listen to what Jesus has to say to us in our lives? Could we, for example, pray more often, or perhaps listen to the gospel stories very carefully? God asks us to be kind and generous to others and treat them as we would like to be treated. Do you think you could listen to God more this Lent? How could you do this? What will you do to try and live more as God wants? In Lent we spend extra time praying and we think about how we can help other people, and in this way let our true light shine out from inside us. God of mercy, you ask us to listen

to your Son, Jesus. Open our ears to

hear your Word and fill our hearts

with your love so that we may

change our lives and so change the

lives of others. Amen.

Weekly Prayer and Reflection – Second Sunday in Lent (Year B)

Mark 9:2-10 Reflection taken from Cafod Children’s Liturgy

Jesus went up a mountain to be alone with his friends, the disciples Peter, James and

John. While he was on the mountain, a great change came over him. His clothes

became bright and shining white and Elijah and Moses appeared and talked to him.

How did Peter, James and John feel when they saw the change that had happened to

Jesus? Why were they frightened?

Then a cloud came over and Jesus’s friends heard a voice, saying “This is my Son, the

Beloved. Listen to him.” Whose voice do you think this was? What do you think

Peter, James and John must have felt when they heard God speaking to them from

the cloud?

A huge change came over Jesus on the mountain and the disciples saw his true loving

self, shining through like the rays of the sun. If we listen to Jesus and spend time

with God in our hearts then we too can let our true light shine brightly. For example,

we could be kinder to other people, or extra helpful. Why not try closing your eyes,

sit very still and listen very carefully. You can hear so much more when you really

take time to listen. So how do you think we can best listen to what Jesus has to say

to us in our lives? Could we, for example, pray more often, or perhaps listen to the

gospel stories very carefully?

God asks us to be kind and generous to others and treat them as we would like to be

treated. Do you think you could listen to God more this Lent? How could you do this?

What will you do to try and live more as God wants?

In Lent we spend extra time praying and we think about how we can help other

people, and in this way let our true light shine out from inside us.

The theme for this half-term’s work on

developing children’s social, emotional and

behavioural skills will be Going for Goals! We

will be exploring how children can motivate

themselves in their learning and across the

school. As part of the theme they will be asked to set their own goals,

think about how they learn best and consider how they might make wise

choices.

Lost Coat

Annie in the Infant department has lost her school coat. Can

you please check at home to see if your child took the wrong

Online Safety - Apps News

There has been a lot in the media news about the impact of social media on children’s

mental health and wellbeing. The research shows YouTube was considered to have

the most positive impact on mental health; while Snapchat and Instagram were

considered to be the most detrimental to young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

Here are some apps to be aware of…

Musical.ly is a free service and social media platform used to create and share short

videos. Children like the app because it’s fun. They can express

themselves by lip syncing and dancing to music videos. Users are

able to create videos of themselves that last up to 15 seconds and in

common with many of the most popular apps they can add filters

and fast and slow motion effects. Users searching via hashtags can

unwittingly be exposed to age inappropriate content.

Musical.ly Terms and Conditions of Use require users to be 13 years or older to use

the app. However, many are younger. It is important to remember that the majority

of music videos featured on the app are not filtered, this means some include

suggestive language, mature situations and sexualised content.

Musical.ly profile setting should be set to private.

Instagram: It can be hard to spot if a celebrity has been paid to promote a

particular product so Childnet have published some top tips for critical

thinking for advertising on Instagram. The advice can also be extended

to other social media platforms.

Lego Life: There is a good blog to explain about this app at

SnapChat, used regularly by many children and young people, have launched a new

feature. SnapMaps allows users to see the location of their

contacts which is potentially useful, but also a safeguarding risk.

There are three possible privacy settings:

your location; and

To change the settings, open your app and pinch the screen like you would to zoom

out. Click "Next." On the "Who can see my location on the Map?" screen, click "Only

Me (Ghost Mode)." Click "Next," then "Finish."

Monkey Users are connected at random to engage in a 10 second live videochat.

They can add more time or add the person to Snapchat to continue the connection.

The content of the videos can be explicit or abusive and children and young people

are vulnerable to exploitation through the opportunity for private chat with people

they don’t know.
