Dear Parishioners As autumn begins, we continue with our Year of Worship at

St. Joseph. It seems that the past seven months many things have changed. Somebody said: “The environment changes, the culture changes, people change, but truth does not change; faith, hope and love do not change; God does not change."

Pope Francis in his book The Church of Mercy addresses what it means to worship God. “It means learning to be with Him, it means that we not stop trying to talk with Him; and it means sensing that His presence is the truest, the most good, the most important thing of all. Worshipping the Lord means giving Him the place that He must have; worshipping the Lord means believing - not only by our words - that He alone truly guides our lives. Worshipping the Lord means that we are convinced before Him that He is the only God, the God of our lives, the God of our history."

Our ways of worshipping God may have changed throughout this pandemic but God has been and continues to be with us. Life of the Church must go on even in the midst of pandemic.

There continues to be many ways for our parish community to worship God: our weekday Masses, Adoration and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament (we will start next month if situation improves), administrating the Sacrament of the Sick and Sacrament of Reconciliation, Baptisms, Weddings, Funerals, reception of First Holy Communion by 31 children in August & our Sunday Celebration of the Eucharist. Many of our parish ministries continue to carry out their mission guided by God's love.

Now more than ever it is so important that you are receiving the “Bulletin on line”. If you have not yet registered to receive the parish bulletin in your email inbox, please register at http://stjwinnipeg.weebly.com/. Stay connected and be informed at all times.

Visit https://stjwinnipeg.weebly.com/mass-schedule.html to sign up for Sunday (or Saturday) Mass. I encourage you to sign up, especially if you haven’t visited our church for more than seven months. Let me remind you of the beautiful words of one of our hymns: Come back to me with all your heart, don’t let fear keep us apart. Long have I waited for your coming home to me and living deeply our new life.

May God bless you, protect you and keep you safe. Father Bo

Congratulations and God’s Blessings to Gabriel Lantin and Ezekiel Baided who received the Sacrament of Baptism in July and August.

Catechism Bulletin In these unprecedented and challenging times we continue

to journey and grow in faith together. As per last month’s catechism bulletin, our parish catechesis continues via remote instruction and distance learning using the Gospel Weeklies Faith Formation Program. We elect videoconferencing once a month to reach out to you and your children to help and support you as your children’s primary teachers of the faith.

This year’s study includes 32 weekly lessons. Each of the program’s 32 lessons focuses on a unique doctrinal theme that connects the Sunday Gospel to the Catechism of the Catholic Church. In addition to providing a thorough grounding in faith and Scripture, the program also draws the children in through connections to current events and real-life stories.

We look forward to starting this year’s catechesis as soon as we get the materials to you. The $75 Catechism fee is waived. Instead, just to cover the cost of program materials, each student pays only $40. Enclose cash payment (exact amount only) in an envelope labelled with your child’s name and bring to church when you pick up the materials.

ROSARY The month of October is the month of the Rosary. During this month we will pray one decade of the Rosary at the end of Saturday and Sunday Mass. I encourage you to say at least one decade of the Rosary each day during the month of October together with your family.

“May the Rosary always be in your hands”. Message of Our Lady from Medjugorje, February 25, 1988.

Congratulations & Blessings! Thirty-one children from our

Catechism Program received their First Holy Communion in the month of August. This was a very important celebration for the entire parish community as we continue to witness to these First Communicants how we live and practice our own faith in the Eucharist which is the center and summit of our Christian life. Blessings and congratulations to the children and their families!

Please be aware that, even in this unprecedented time, you are not excused from “attending” Mass – the live-streamed Mass on the internet is available to us. Don’t make excuses for yourself. “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” Even though we cannot come to our church, participate as a family by watching the live-streamed Mass as the family of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg.

Because you cannot all be present at Mass on the weekend you are encouraged to make an act of Spiritual Communion.

This is a beautiful devotional practice in the Church and is a real source of grace in communion with our Lord.

Here follows an example of a prayer for spiritual communion.

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy

Sacrament.

I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into

my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself

wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Deepest Sympathy: St. Joseph’s Parishioners wish to extend heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Leonor Vicente who passed away June 23, Erhard Meier July 6, Joseph Gall July 14, Angelina Bautista July 29, Dorotea Berena August 1, Anthony Gonzales August 9. May you be comforted by the assurance of our prayers and may they rest in peace.

Card of Thanks To our ever faithful “pandemic crew” who make sure the

church is safe and ready for worship; help with greeting and ushering; and monitor and organize the sign up calendar.

To the Knights of Columbus who kept busy this summer working around the church, hall and parking lot; repairing concrete at the main entrance, cleaning up weeds, tall grass and bushes around hall and parking lot and repainting the lines in the parking lot.
