Saint Patrick Parish is a Christian community of disciples in the Roman Catholic tradition, called by Jesus, united in Eucharistic worship and growing in faith, hope and love. Nourished through the sacraments and strengthened by God’s transforming love, we are empowered to know the gospel message and to bear witness to others. As Christian stewards, we are thankful for God’s many gifts and we commit ourselves to share our time, talent and treasure in Christ-like service within our parish com-munity and beyond. We seek God’s blessing and guidance to be faithful to this mission.
MISSION STATEMENT

Expectant parents may contact the parish office to arrange for the baptism seminar class on the third Thursday of every month. The class is held in the Religious Education Building, Room 7 at 7:30 PM. Adults are baptized and confirmed at the Easter Vigil after completing the stages of the Rite of Christian Initiation. Communal anointing of the sick is celebrated at Mass during the Advent and Lenten seasons. WELCOME TO NEW PARISHIONERS: The Saint Patrick faith community warmly welcomes you! Please introduce yourself to the celebrant of the mass you are attending as you leave the church so that, on behalf of the entire community, you may be welcomed. JULY 24, 2016
SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME First Reading: Genesis 18:20-32 Abraham pleads with the Lord, who planned to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because of the evil and sin in those cities. Abraham asks him if he would spare the city if fifty, forty, thirty, twenty or even only ten innocent people were found there. God says that he would spare the cities even for the sake of only ten. Second Reading: Colossians 2:12-14 Paul explains to the Colossians that through baptism, they are raised to life with Christ because they believed in the power of the God who raised him from the dead. Even though they once lived in sin, their sins have been pardoned through Jesus. Gospel: Luke 11:1-13 Jesus' disciples asked him how they should pray. He gave them some phrases similar to those now used in the Lord's prayer. Jesus also reminds the disciples how even men with sins are able to give good things to their children, and explains how much more the heavenly Father wants to give to us.

From the desk of Fr. Charlie
Dear friends in Christ,
Over the past three years, we have seen that Our Holy Father, Pope Francis is always full of surprises. Back in the year 2014, Pope Francis was talking about the importance of attending Holy Mass on Sundays. He had this to say: “If you do not feel in need of God’s mercy, if you do not feel you are a sinner, then it’s better not to go to Mass, because we go to Mass because we are sinners and we want to receive the forgiveness of Jesus, to participate in His redemption, His forgiveness.” What does this mean, especially as we continue to celebrate this Jubilee Year of Mercy? If we look at the Gospels, we notice that Jesus never yelled at sinners. The only ones that Jesus ever lost His temper with were the ones who did not think that they were sinners. Pope Francis reminds us that every one of us in need of God’s mercy. We are all sinners – but that is good news for you and for me! We never give in to discouragement or despair about this. Jesus came for sinners – Jesus loves sinners. God does not love of us because we are good – God loves us because He is so good! We read in the Catechism of the Catholic Church: “The precept of the Church specifies the law of the Lord more precisely: On Sundays and other holy days of obligation the faithful are bound to participate in the Mass.” (Paragraph #2180) There may be a tendency to feel that it is the summertime – it’s okay to take a vacation from going to Mass on Sundays. However, we should never take a vacation from God – He never takes a vacation from us! I always remember back when I was in 2nd grade Religious Education, my teacher taught me a simple lesson about this which I never forgot. She began by asking us, “How many hours are there in a day?” 24. “How many days in a week?” 7. “How many hours in a week?” (That was a little harder! 7x24 = 168.) My teacher said to us – “Out of 168 hours every week – can we give at least one hour to God?” When we come to Mass on Sundays, we come together as a family. We pray together, we worship together, and we sing together. We hear Jesus speak to us through His Words. As Pope Francis reminds us, we come to seek God’s mercy and forgiveness by acknowledging that we are sinners. And of course, we have the opportunity to receive Jesus in the Eucharist – Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. The Holy Mass is one of the most beautiful celebrations we can possibly participate in – do not deny you and your families this incredible gift that Jesus Himself gives to us! God bless you! Father Charlie
