Round 2 The Cubs travelled to Chertsey Public School to take on Terrigal Gold. The Cubs won the toss and point the opposition in (the team believe that chasing is much easier because you know how many you need to get!). The bowling performance was outstanding with Terrigal restricted to 21 with a meagre 2 runs from the bat. Jake was the pick of the bowlers with an outstanding return of 3-2 off his 2 overs. Max, Nick, Jack and Rachel also bowled well taking a wicket each with Nick also taking the team’s first catch of the season. In reply the Cubs cruised to victory finishing 6-72 with Levi and Lachlan opening with a solid partnership of 10 with Nathanial top scoring with 10 not out. Rile made a valuable contribution at the end to finish with 5 not out. Another great win for the Cubs. Round 3 The Cubs took on Brisbane Water at Alan Davidson and were put into bat after losing the toss. The team batted very well and only lost 1 wicket for a final score of 71. Nick top scored with 18 not out with Riley, Jake, Nathanial and Rachel all scoring runs without being dismissed. With the ball the team started well and restricted the opposition to 4-19 at the 10 over mark before they come out after drinks and scored freely to finish with 6-86. The pick of the bowlers were Lachlan with 1-7 off 3 overs with Levi, Rachel, Kane, Nick and Riley all taking a wicket. Great game of cricket. Well played both teams! Hi All,To encourage a bit more feedback from you and all our other readers, we have decided to re-introduce the popular ‘Caught in Slips’ column. This is THE place for you tell the world about the silly things you’ve seen at the nets or on the field, re-tell those funny jokes you’ve heard, or to record those anecdotes that deserve a wider audience.

Please send them in to:[email protected] ...and do please send your photos in (complete with a comment or caption) to me as well. I’ll pick the best of these for inclusion in The Roar to share with the rest of our club. Some great matches were played on theweekend and some lovely grass stainsfor me to get out of whites. Who else hastrouble getting their whites clean? ...anddoes sunscreen stain them orange? I havefound this to be happening at my house. My advice is to spray with sard and soak in bleach and napisan together, leave for a few hoursthen wash.

Only a small piece from me this time, playyour best every time you’re out there andgive it your allTill next timeEd xxI bowl my best when I am fittest and thebest way to get fit is to bowl. That’s howyou get your rhythm. You cannot reallyfind a rhythm by bowling in the nets.(Brett Lee)

Division 1 - Round 5vs Kincumber at Erina Oval

Narara-Wyoming 123 lost to Kincumber 9-147The Griffons elected to bat at Erina Oval and we had them in real trouble early thanks to some brilliant bowling. After Rowdy (2-22) and MTM (2-28) combined to take the first four wickets, a sharp runout involving Tommy Head and wickets to Matty and Tom had the Kincs at 7-58 in the 27th over. A stubborn 8th wicket partnership of 60 and a late last wicket flurry boosted their tally to 147.We got off to a steady start and were 1-54 in the 14th over thanks to Stucks (25) and Matt ‘Clouds’ Nicholls (24). Unfortunately after that we couldn’t put together a decent partnership and fell 25 runs short of the victory target with five overs remaining. Put that one behind us and come back next week against Wyong back at Fortress G.

Paul Moriarty

Division 3 - Round 3 vs Wyong at Alan Davidson Oval

The Wyong Skipper won the toss and elected to bat, and got off to a reasonable start. Lachie got us into the wickets early snaring and opener then

Richo chimed in with another, before a lucky run out to the Skipper (of his foot in his follow through) and a good piece of fielding from Mick Cross to run out another Roo bat Had us in the Box seat. Adam Montgomery, Stuey and the Skip were extremely miserly with ball in hand through the middle section with a combined 44 overs yielding 78 runs for the loss of 5 with some exceptional fielding from Alex Montgomery along the way, before Lachie came back to clear up the last resistance. Wyong all out for 143 in the 62nd over.

We didn’t get of to the best of starts losing Gaz 2nd ball, Rankmore with the score on 18 and Stuey at 37. A stabillizing partnership between Alex (18) and Kered(23), then another from the Skip(21) and Crossy(34), with support at the end from Aras (20*) guided us passed the Roos total.

A good team effort with bat and ball without anybody playing exceptional well sees the 3rd win in 3 games.

Wyong 10/143 lost to Narara-Wyoming 7/149.

Division 3 - Round 4 vs The Entrance at Alan Davidson Oval.

The top of the table clash between the early frontrunners in Div 3 had the skip win the toss and have a bat at home. Gaz(24) and Stuey opened proceedings with a neat 33 run opening stand, before Gaz fell and Kered followed shortly after. Alex Montgomery(36) joined Stuey for a 76 run partnership for the 4th wicket. When Gom fell the Skip decided to up the ante and elevated the hitters up the order in an effort for some quick runs. The plan backfired and we lost 4 for 18 before Aras (21*) assisted Sweetie in pushing us over the 160 mark, finishing on 6/164 off our 60 overs with Sweetie finishing with a well played 60 unbeaten.

Page 5: The Roar 2014/15 Vol 4

The post Tea session saw Lachie Head tear through all but the most agricultural of Opening Batsmen dismissing bats, 1,3 and 4 for under 10 runs. Unfortunately the number 2 Bat was making hay and connecting with more than missing, before the skip (2 for 5) put an end to that with a short spell removing the opener and number 5. Adam Montgomery was miserly with 7.1 overs 3 for 14, while James Ryan earned his first div 3 Scalp with a start of 1 for 18 of 7. The Chief Destroyer with the ball however was Lachie with 4/24 of 6. A good effort with the ball, after we had missed some opportunities with the bat set up a commanding win.

Man of the Match Stuart “Sweetie” Owen for his 60*

Narara-Wyoming 6/164 (40ov) Def The Entrance 10/95.

Division 3 - Round 4 vs Warnervale at Wongarrah Oval.

In our second game away and second game on turf this year the Warnervale skip won the toss and asked us to have a bat, which we accepted eagerly. Unfortunately we lost Gaz with the score on 8 and Kered run out gifting the opponents two wickets as we struggled to double figures. Ando joined Sweetie and was crisp in his first Div 3 showing this year falling for 29 in an innings that helped straighten the ship. Unfortunately we lost Alex and Sweetie not long after and Aras and Mick dug in to salvage some order at 5/61. Aras got a good rock on 17 with the score on 6/94 with 10 to go. The Skip joined Mick Cross in the middle as they set about setting a defendable target. Fortunately the Warnervale Skip introduced a 6th bowler which both (especially the Skip) obviously enjoyed as they plundered 40 of his 4 overs. When the Skip got cleaned up by the returning opener there was 3 overs to

go with 3 wickets in hand and the score on 158. Unfortunately we lost 4-5 to be all out for 164 in the 40th over.

Our defence got off to one of the more interesting starts of the year with a returning Lucas Sadler bowling a 10 ball over...... Luckily Lachie was bowling well at the other end and was ably partnered by Aras after Sadler got the big hook, both youngsters picking up the opening bats early. Adam Montgomery picked up 3 while the Skip bagged 4 and 5 as Ando Scalped #6, before a bizarre runout saw us remove a major stumbling block in our path to victory. Before the Skip and Stuey picked up the last 3 wickets closing out the victory by 16 runs with 3 overs to spare. While we are happy with the win, we were well down on the standard that needs to be set with Ball in hand and fielding around the ground.

Man of the Match Mick Cross

Mal Barsing

Division 5 - Round 5vs Lisarow at Sohier Park

Narara-Wyoming (190) def by Lisarow (201)Narara-Wyoming headed to Sohier Park to take on 2nd placed Lisarow in

our round 5 clash. After losing the toss the team bowled well and contained Lisarow to a respectable 201. The pick of the bowlers was Peter Sherwood with 2-24 off his 7 overs while Peter Stuckey made a valuable contribution taking 2-36. James Everton and Craig Coskerie also took a couple each to round off a solid performance with the ball which was well supported with a continued improvement n our ground fielding as well as an improved strike rate in the catching department.

In reply, Coskerie got us off to a great start with a superb 72 and was supported by Michael Hari (12), Dave Harvey (23) and Gerrald Connolly (12) while Tom Maurer found some solid form with a well crafted 34 not out. In the end we fell 11 runs short but as a team we played out of our skin and deserved to take the points. Great effort boys. Our first win is just around the corner!
