The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate
courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Special Olympics Louisiana offers year-round programs for over 13,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in all 64 parishes with the help of 12,000 volunteers. We have health, education, leadership,
family, training and sports programs for people beginning at age 2 and there is no upper age limit.
1) Through The Ritz-Carlton’s three days of serving, we assisted the intellectually disabled play various sports in the “Olympics”.
2) We plan on assisting again next year for the Special Olympics, as we did in
2012 & 2013.
3) If Louisiana Special Olympics won the prize money, they would provide sports,
training, health, education and inclusion programs for 13,500 people with
intellectual disabilities in the state of Louisiana. They would also use the funds to
reach out to the 120,000 people with intellectual disabilities in Louisiana who
could benefit from our programs but are not participating.
