Page 4: The Revised General Education Curriculum

First, to effect a smooth transition from basic education to tertiary education, the CHED Technical Panel on General Education prepared the College Readiness Standards covering the following subjects: English, Filipino, Literature, Humanities, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science. Science covers chemistry, physics, biology, and earth science. These standards were subjected to a consultative conference with various stakeholders. Comments and recommendations were taken into consideration, and on October 28, 2011, the College Readiness Standards were approved by the commission en banc.

The GE subjects need not be taken all in one year. They can be taken across the years.

The new GE will take effect in AY 2018-2919 or when the first batch of Grade 12 students graduate.

In light of the transition models implemented by some basic education schools where they relabel the grades, such that students will graduate as early as 2016, the new GE shall be implemented earlier than 2018.
