Birthstone– Amethyst

With its lovely purple hues, the amethyst has been a popular gemstone for thousands of years. The Greeks believed the stone would help prevent drunkenness. In fact, amethyst is Greek for “not intoxicated.” Today, amethysts are associated with peace and inner strength.

Flower of the Month– Violet The violet, the flower of February, is a beautiful little plant with blooms that range in color from deep blue to bright fuchsia and royal purple. From savory meals to sweet desserts, violets can be used to add a different flavor to your favorite dish. Some varieties even taste like vanilla.

Valentine’s Lucky in Love Casino

The Red Hatter’s will be in house this month on Friday February 12th. They will be celebrating with fun

games, good friends, and a laugh (or two). There is a cost associated with some of these events, which

the resident would pay for through their trust fund account.

Grumpy Old Men’s Club (February 24th) will be touring the building through the maintenance room

and reminiscing about the handy man days. They will be ending their journey with coffee & cookies.

BIG BINGO! Saturday’s in the Evergreen Dining Room at 2:00pm! 6-8 games divided into two ses-

sions. 25cents per card, per round. Come out and play!

The Corner Store—every Thursday at 2:00pm in the Atrium. Volunteers from the Estate will be

selling items such as, chocolate bars, candy, trinkets, toothbrushes, and much more!

Chinese New Year This year, 2016, is the Year of the Monkey! Legend has it that in ancient times Buddha asked all the animals to meet him on Chinese New Year. Twelve animals came, and Buddha named a year after each one. He announced that people born in each animal’s year would have some of that animal’s personality traits. The most common Chinese ways of saying Happy New Year are Gong Xi Fa Cai (Mandarin) and Gong Hey Fat Choy (Cantonese). Even though the pronunciations are a little different, both are written the same way. We will be celebrating Chinese New Year in each neighbourhood as well as a special outing to China Rose Restaurant.

My Valentine Search

The search that I made you would never believe,

For the perfect poem for my love to receive.

I looked up to heaven and said a short prayer.

Thought about Hades, but didn't go there.

Looked ‘round the hay stacks,

and under a hen, out in the yard in the nanny goat’s pen.

Climbed a high mountain and did a full scan

But nothing I saw fit into my plan.

Wandered the forest and shook every tree,

‘till acorns and pinecones rained down on me.

Turned each one over, put it back on the ground

But the verse that I yearned for what not be found.

Trudged down to the ocean and

sifted the sand, On to the gold mine were gravel

This valentine verse must be honest and neat,

Loaded with love, but not sickly sweet.
