Pre-treatment cleaning, or degreasing, is the firstessential stage in surface treatment processes.
It removes manufacturing lubricants and protectionoils from the surface of components before further pre-treatment stages and ultimately
painting or metallisation.
The pre-treatment cleaningprocess consumes large quantities of water and clea-ning chemicals, and generates large volumes of oily wastewater containing around 10 g/l of oil.
When pre-treatment cleaningtanks are not regenerated a number of disadvantagesbecome apparent:
Constant increase in the concentration of oil, loss ofcleaning efficiency.
Large volumes of effluent tohandle when tanks are successively dumped.
Cost of effluent treatment, high water consumption andcleaning chemicals.

The membrane selectivity (pore size) has been carefullychosen from the CARBOSEP® and KERASEPTM range toavoid blocking and to facilitate membrane cleaning.
The continuous regeneration of the cleaning tank is made possible by ultrafiltration. The contents of the cleaning tank are continuously recycled through the ultrafiltrationsystem which separates the oily emulsions and these are held and concentrated within the concentration tank.

advantagesthe CARBOSEP® and KERASEPTM ultrafiltration
• Constant control of cleaning quality
• Simple operation, easily automated
• Flexibility of use• Mineral membrane very
resistant (temperature, pH).
The long life expectancy and high performance of the CARBOSEP®and KERASEPTM membranes have allowed ORELIS to accumulate
15 years of industrial experience with pre-treatment cleaningcovering more than 400 customers around the world.
• Significant reduction indischarge levels
• Compliance with stringentregulation
• Regeneration and recycling of pre-treatment cleaning tanks and washing machines.• Concentration by ultrafiltration of oily effluents prior to destruction.• Production of ultrafiltrate in electrophoretic painting processes.• Treatment and recycling of post-paint rinse water using ultrafiltration.• Optimising and developing the treatment of water-borne paints.• Treatment of effluents by membrane bio-reactors.
• Rapid return on investment• Extended life of
the cleaning tank• Savings in water, cleaning
products, energy and maintenance
• Savings in subsequent waterrinsing stages.
