The first VACUUM CLEANER, patented in 1860 by American

Daniel Hess, was not produced.

The motorized vacuum cleaner

was invented by Cecil Booth in

England in 1901. His 'Puffing

Billy' cleaner (left), which ran on

gasoline, required a horse-drawn

wagon to move it & 4 men to operate it. William Hoover

developed the first suction vacuum cleaner in the 1930s.
