With my first 00 it Is my sad duty to release two
long—term members from their roster positions. Bob
Weinberg and Stuart Schiff both failed to meet the
required minac due for this mailing, and I have heard
nothing from either of them about possible lateness
of the submission, Rule 11: 2: F leaves me no alternative but to
drop them from the roster, and hope that their names will appear on
the waitinglist with MIC. 15.
With this mailing, however, we welcome J. Vernon Shea to the roster.
Vernon O s material has appeared with enthusiam in quite a number of
and his first submission bodes well for his tenure in the
Order.
With two vacancies now on the roster, William Andy Conder and Don
Herron are invited to membership in the Order, upon sending In the
amount outstanding for their first year's dues and six pages of cred—
i table material (or more)
One person owed dues with this mailing (i.e.
THE PURSESTRINGS: prior to the deadline), but due to possible con—
fusion resulting from the Order's first change
of OEs I have extended his time. The following
members must send their annual dues to me before
the deadline for Mailing 15 to retain their membership:

Wallace, Sprague , Order before posting this ml g to
Hunter, & Hart. the membership and waitlisters who
have purchased extra sets. The least
expensive postal rate could well take half of the treasury, which
would leave little, indeed. Hence, It m going to tamper with what hag
to be the best bargain in apadom today, and raise the cost of the
extra mlgs from $1. 00 (to those on the waitlnglist) to an amount
equaT to their first year's dues: $2.00, effective immediately.
Everyone writing to me about the extra copies have mentioned the in—
credible amount of important material can be had for so little costs
I agree completely,
This mailing is getting out a bit later than
oeDITORIAL l t d planned, but a United Parcel strike In the
midwest slowed up the arrival of a few sub—
missions and I suddenly found myself soft—YWC
"hearted. To those of you owing pages to retain your membership,
please ship early, and enclose a postcard with your submission so
that I can let you know that your parcel successfully ran the USPS
gauntle t.
The next deadline, by the way, falls on a Sunday, so the effective
deadline is the preceeding days Saturday, 31 July.
For the first time in my entire fannish life, I reeeived two opened
parcels: those of Scott Connors and Gary Kimber. Scott's was opened
because he stapled the jetpack together too hastily and missed the
folded section. His Continuity mentions two dittozines, but only one
made it to POB 1205 in the opened parcel. Gary's, on the other hand,
may have been opened when crossing the border; the USPS says that If
that happened, it was done by the Canadians (a handy excuse?) . Please
wrap your submissions securely, so as to thwart the Post Awful's
new atuomatic shredders
The 00' s cover and table of contents pages were hand—set and printed
in the University of Alabama's printing lab by the Antient Czech, The
beautiful wood cut was done by the Lab's master printer, Glenn House,
to whom a respectful tip of the tentacle is due,
This mailing isn e t as large as the record—setting last one, but it is
ne t ertheless a hefty one. My thanks for all the good wishes and oc,n—
dolences received since the transfer of the OEship; now to do a
creditable job
And now, to the dry sections :

There isngt enough room to begin the stencil ling of the. Waltlnelist,
so 1911 validate those perceptive readers who have deduced that there
are still three extra sets of Mlg. 14 to be had, These, if ordered,
will cost (ib2. 00, and only one set will be sold to any member or
waitlister (so members need not apply.. ,
Also, after due consideration, 1 0 ve added a sub—rule (VI I: 2: B).

Scott Connors' two proposals have not passed the membership, as per—ceptive Rule readers will have noticed by now. Of the members whoexpressed their thoughts on raising the membership, all were opposed,
On the other proposal, Richard Tierney declined the honourary member—ship before the vote was In, and I have honoured his decision.

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE
The Cry of the Cricket is the Official Organ of the Esoteric Order of
Dagon. People who have written to ask about the Order and others who
have been recommended to us as potential members will be sent a copy
as an indication of what we o re about; this page is for them.
An "amateur press association" (abbreviation: apa) is neither a fan—
zine nor a club, The apa members print their own magazines, in what—
ever format and with whatever method of reproduction they find pleas—
ing and/or convenient. He sends 50 copies of his completed product to
the Official Editor, who takes the bundles from the various members
and sorts them so that each member will receive a copy of each con—
tribution.
We do this every three months, and the member is expected to have six
pages of material, not previously circulated elsewhere, in every two
mailings. For example: if a new member has six pages In his first
mailing (as every new member must), he does not have to have anything
in his second. He nay contribute to his second mailing, of course,
and we hope that he will, but he does not have to do so. On the other
hand, If he has three pages into his second mailing, he Will owe thre€
in his third. In sun, the number of pages a member owes on any given
mailing is determined by subtracting the number he had in the previou:
mailing from six. These are the minimum requirements; any member may
submit more than the minimum he owes, but doing so will not change
the minimum-requirement cycle; i.e. even if he puts 20 pages into his
first mailing he will still owe six pages with his third.
If you are interested and think that you can fulfill these require-
ments (which average one page per month) and can afford $2, 00 per
year dues, read the rest of this E*O*Dzine: it details the contents
of the current mailing, who's in the Order and waitlnclist, and tells
you in (great) detail what is expected of you.
