Continued on pg. 2
Aloha AZ-NIGP members,By the time this newsletter is issued, the 24th annual RegionalConference & Vendor Exposition will have come and gone, andall the hard work by the committee members will just be amemory. I’d like to take this time to personally thank thecommittee members – Valarie Erwin, John & Jane Albin
(lovingly “renamed” the A-Team”), Kristy Garcia, Mary Talerico, Irma Guzman,Bill Munch, Gary Barkman, Susanna Hernandez, Bertha Whitby, SaraStravers, Heather Hodgman, Myrna Quihuis, Jess Romney, VickiFitzpatrick, Barbara Smith, Peggy Ferrin, Cheryl Rentscheler, and AngelaBennett. And special thanks to our “adoptee”, Rick Kahn, from ArizonaCorrection Industries for all his support.
We had a tremendous turnout, both from our record number of registrantsattending our training sessions (241) and visited our Product Expo to our walk-ins(87) that we were able to capture and took the time to sign-in so we know theycame to visit with new and existing vendors. Both members and end-usersshowed up in record numbers!! Thank you everyone for encouraging yourdepartments and staff members to support the product show – after all, without thevendors there would be no show! And again special thanks to our Gold Sponsorsfor 2013 Plus6 Technologies and 1GPA, as well as our Silver Sponsors, and theother vendors who helped make this show a success.
On a personal note – because I know he THINKS he’s retired – I’d like tothank John Albin for all his dedication and hard work in helping to make this asuccessful event for our Chapter. Because of his hard work, we have become oneof the leading Chapters with regards to Regional Conferences and definitelyProduct Shows, and had attendees from out of state this year!! For the first timeever, we have 37 spaces already pre-sold for our 2014 Products Show. If I didn’tthink it would go to his head, I’d tell him how very proud I was of him!!
Our next training event is scheduled for November 19th at the Edna VihelCenter in Tempe. We’ll be co-hosting the White Paper seminar “We No Bid andI’ll Tell You Why” session with the Grand Canyon Chapter, sponsored by theNational NIGP Business Council. A lite lunch will be provided after the session. Please go to www.aznigp.org to register. There’s no fee to attend for AZ-NIGPmembers, Grand Canyon Chapter (GCC) members, or members belonging to otherchapters; however, there is a small fee if an NIGP member wishes to attend.
Winding down 2013, we have our last opportunities to “Pay it Forward” toour community. On October 27th, Valarie Erwin – your incoming President – ishosting a “Walk for Autism-Team NIGP” at the event being held at Tempe BeachPark. November 2nd, our most ambitious volunteer, Steve Troxel, is still lookingfor more volunteers for his Team NIGP rest stop/water station (at Mill & Curry) forthe Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) event.

And between now and our Transitional Board meeting / Luncheon onDecember 10th to be held at the Phoenix Airport Marriott, the Outreach Committeeis collecting New Socks for Men & Women to be donated to the JustaCenter forhomeless in downtown Phoenix. Cheryl Rentscheler and several other ladiesvisit this center on a monthly basis, wash their feet, and replace whatever was onthem (if anything) with brand new socks. If you’re unable to purchase socks, wewill have our typical coffee bucket at the luncheon and will accept donations aswell. Also has been our typical fashion for the past several years, we will behaving a canned /dry food drive for a food bank on the Westside. We will have alocal set up for donations at the December luncheon, as well, or you may contactBarbara Corella to coordinate pickup.
Finally, on a more personal note, I would like to thank each and every oneof you for trusting me enough to be worthy of serving as your President for twoyears. It has been a very rewarding experience for me, I’ve made many newfriends, changed employers (would like to sneak a “happy retirement, boss” inhere), and had come be “out of my comfort zone” but I wouldn’t trade any of it –and I owe most of it to you, my fellow AZ-NIGP members. Thank you!
As always, any comments or suggestions, please contact me or any of theother officers and we would be happy to listen. Thank you all for your commitmentnow and in the future to our wonderful chapter and to NIGP.

Attached is the Volunteer form for the “2013 Walk to Cure Diabetes” event. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact ourNIGP coordinator, Steve Troxel ( [email protected] ) or Sharon Brause ( [email protected] ).It’s important that you complete the form and get it back to us, as there is no listing on here for the rest stop / water stop we will be“manning”. You’ll need to fill the form in and note on it that you are part of the “Team NIGP” group so that we all stay together. Itworks better when we’re trying to take pictures for our AZNIGP website and Newsletter!!The course map lists the rest / water sites as a triangle, roughly located on Mill Ave where Washington (on the Phoenix side) andCurry Road (on the Tempe side) intersect – almost directly across the street from the Marquee Theatre (there’s a small park on theSE side). More details will be out shortly. In order to make this another successful volunteer event for AZNIGP, as well as to fulfill our duties, we need to have a minimum of 30volunteers but as always, more is better. Any “teens” who need Volunteer Hours for high school or any older children who would beinterested in helping are always welcome to join us. Note: if the teens need their volunteer hours signed off for school, please makesure they have their forms with them and one of the NIGP folks will sign off for them.Sign-up on our website here but it’s also important that the form be completed and scanned/emailed to Steve Troxel and/or SharonBause in addition to registering on the AZNIGP website. Please make sure to list your contact phone # and email somewhere on thedocumentation.Thank you in advance for helping AZNIGP pay it forward!!

The 24th Annual Regional Conference and Products Exhibition was held October 10, 2013 at the Mesa Con-vention Center. Our largest ever turnout with 241 registered members and out of state participants enjoyed agreat day of training and walking the exhibit floor to network with the 84 vendors that showed their wears. We want to thank our sponsor vendors for their participation and support. Gold Sponsors, 1GPA sponsoredour breakfast and Plus 6 Technologies sponsored our luncheon. Silver Sponsors, National IPA, A to Z Equip-ment Rentals and Sales, Waxie Sanitary Supply and Dave Ban Associates all sponsored our afternoon breaksnacks. Without the assistance of these sponsors, and participation of all vendors, our members would havehad to pay a higher registration fee for this event.

AZNIGP
Scholarship Committee
& Board President
PO Box 1466
Mesa,AZ 85211
Dear AZNIGP Scholarship Committee Members and Board President,
Thank you for the AZNIGP scholarship recently awarded to me. This has been a great help in obtaining my CPPB. With
the many demands placed on our day to day life, the costs associated with testing and educations sometimes weigh on
our decisions to move forward.
I was delighted when I was informed that AZNIGP had a scholarship system. That if I took the CPPB exam and
successfully passed, there was a good chance of receiving an AZNIGP scholarship to offset the costs. Thank you for
the opportunity. To my happy surprise, I was awarded the $600 scholarship which fully covered my fees for the
application and the exam.
I am grateful for the help and support that I have received from AZNIGP since I became a member 1.5 years ago. I find
this to be a wonderful organization, filled with persons who are excited to mentor others and move forward the
profession of Public Procurement. Everyone is warm and friendly. I cannot express enough how happy I am to have
joined this organization.
I would like to personally thank Mr. Bill Munch for encouraging me to join the organization, to thank Mr. Larry Larson for his
encouragement to take the CPPB exam, and to thank Mrs. Teena Ziegler for being an excellent mentor and teacher of the
CPPB Review classes.
There were challenges in my life this past year, and at times I felt like postponing my testing. But with the
encouragement of many of the AZNIGP members, I forged on and took the testing as planned. And I was delighted when
I found out I passed!
Having the CPPB certification has changed my life. I am received with a greater respect than I could have imagined.
Although I had knowledge of my profession in the past, this Certification is the attestation to others of my Education
and Experience. It is the ultimate acknowledgement of my competency in the public procurement profession andrecognition by my peers. I am honored to be recognized by NIGP and UPPCC. Since receiving my certification,I have
been acknowledged through my organizations news release and through the newspaper of the local community. I
feel such pride to be a part of this great organization and hope to be of service to AZNIGP and to give back what I have
received from my peers.
I encourage all to apply for CPPB or CPPO. With this wonderful group of members, you will have all the
support necessary to achieve your goals!
Sincerely,
Laura Szymanoski,CPPB

A must for all of us!A company’s quality response to the bidding process saysas much about the agency issuing the RFP/IFB (Request forProposal/Invitation for Bids) as it does the supplier. Ifcompanies choose not to bid, is your agency and yourconstituents getting the best products and value?
