Military markers for First Nation veterans Carol Holmes has been working with The Last Post Fund, which has provided an opportunity for the families of veter- ans to honour them by providing a mili- tary marker. Carol has been volunteering to assist the families of veterans with the research, documentation, and application process. And on October 13, they placed 7 mark- ers. The first, as there are more to come. A headstone was placed at the Shulus Cemetery for Francis Blankenship Na- humpcin. And 5 headstones were placed at the Coldwater Cemetery for: Frederick Albert Sterling, James (Jimmy) Voght, Gordon (Tiny) Voght, William Voght, and Michael Bob Jr. Across Canada, over 12,000 Indige- nous people have served in the Canadian Armed Forces. Many veterans were not recognized upon enlistment (many vol- unteered), nor acknowledged upon their safe return. CFNV — actually — initiates ‘Blade signs’ program Huge thanks go to Community Fu- tures Nicola Valley for initiating the ‘blade sign’ incentive. These signs were a no-brainer component in tourism mar- keting guru Roger Brooks’ 10-easy-ways- to-resurect-your-downtown (or something like that). And CFNV pushed hard for the Roger Brooks Int’l downtown revi- talization webinars a couple years ago, culminating with bringing Roger Brooks himself to town! And they have been helping business- es along with the process. And it’s perfect timing with the City waiving sign permit fees until Dec. 31. Still time to plan & get in your application. Final election count The final count of mail-in and ab- sentee ballots this weekend moved the numbers up, but left all the Fraser-Nicola candiates in the same rank as the pre- liminary count, with a slightly smaller gap between the Liberals & NDP: Jackie Tegart 5696 votes for 41.64% of the bal- lots cast. Aaron Sumexheltza 5414 votes for 39.58%. Jonah Timms 1788 for 13.07%. Dennis Adamson 438 votes, 3.2%. Mike Bhangu 343 votes for 2.51%. Again, con- gratulations to all the candidates without whom the whole thing would not work! COVID 19: Mandatory Facemask Use on BC Transit Buses The Province of BC recognizes the advice from Pro- vincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, to wear face coverings when physical distancing is not possible on transit vehicles. While face coverings are now mandatory, the policy has been implemented as an educational step without enforcement. The term “mandatory” is in place to maximize the use of masks on our buses. Exemptions are being permitted for children under the age of 5, those that cannot wear a face covering for health reasons, and transit drivers who have buses installed with doors with shields or a plastic protective barrier. BC Transit has given our drivers instruction to not challenge passengers who are not wearing a face covering, as this could pose a potential for risk of injury if conflicts occurred.
