The Prince of the Sea by Toka Abdelaim

Nader went to his ship “The Prince of the Sea”. He was unhappy because Salwa, his beautiful neighbour who he was in love, with had a boyfriend.

Nader’s mother knew that Nader was in his ship because when Nader is mad or unhappy he goes to his ship.

Then she went to the ship with her four daughters to comfort Nader and make keep him company. While they were there together on the ship, Salwa came. She was very unhappy. Nader said to her “why you unhappy” and she said “because I knew that my boyfriend Yasser loves another girl”. Nader did not tell Salwa he

loved her but kept his feelings to himself. Together they all set sail on the ship.

The next day Nader realised that there wasn’t enough fuel on the ship. Yasser had been looking for Salwa and followed her out to the ship on a little boat. That evening pirates boarded the ship took everyone captive together. The pirate captain addressed the country on the national TV and demanded 1 million Euro by 12 o’clock the following day or he would put one of his hostages in the water.

The money didn’t arrive the next day and the pirate captain said, ‘we have to put someone in the sea. You have one minute to discuss who we will put in the sea’. No one would volunteer until Nader finally said ‘I will, it’s my boat and I decided to come here so I got you into this situation’.

The pirate captain and his helper Patch began to push Nader off the boat and just as they almost had him in the water, a helicopter flew to the ship and dropped off the money. Nader thought he would be safe but he wasn’t, the pirates continued to try to push him off. Finally, they let him back onto the ship and began to talk about the money. Patch wanted to have the same amount of money as the captain but the captain didn’t agree. Nader had an idea, he interrupted them, he said ‘You have to give Patch less money than you because you are the Pirate Captain’ and then he said to Patch ‘that’s not fair, you have to have the same amount as the captain’. His plan worked and the pirates began to fight with each other.


While they were busy fighting, Nader ran to the Captain’s room on the ship and phoned the Police. Within a few minutes the police came and Nader had saved the day.

Salwa was amazed and fell in love with Nader immediately.

They were married and are now very happy, unlike the two pirates who are not so happy in prison.

Elizabeth’s favourite day was Sunday. Sunday was the only peaceful day in the household that she worked in. The whole Anderson family went to the market to buy expensive jewellery and fancy dresses for Mrs Anderson on Sunday. Sir Anderson never let any of his staff outside of his house so everyone else in the house had to stay behind on Sunday. Sir would go out hunting every Sunday afternoon in the vast forest that surrounded the small town. Sir was always in a good mood on Sundays and trust me you wanted Sir to be happy...

When Sir was unhappy he could be very unpredictable. Everyone knew to avoid him when he was unhappy. One Sunday when Emily (the kitchen maid) asked him if he wanted a cup of tea, after an unsuccessful hunting trip, he let out all of his anger on her for no reason whatsoever. His shout shook the entire house.


Elizabeth was punished just as much as the other staff, but because she was only fourteen she found it much harder to work for fifteen hours every day then any of the other staff in the house. Elizabeth was a helpful and kind person but she couldn’t help but hate Sir Anderson. He treated her like dirt. She was always hungry and had to get used to mouldy cabbage for every breakfast, lunch and dinner and her extremely low pay did not help at all. Elizabeth hated it in that house and she hoped that someday her life would change for the better.

And one day it did.

It was a Sunday. Elizabeth woke at six o‘clock, or at least she thought it was six o ‘clock, she could never tell because sometimes Sir would turn the clocks back in the morning so he could fine her for waking up late.

She got up and looked around her tiny room. Her bedroom was in the attic and it was tiny and ugly. The walls were a sickly green and her bed was a bale of rotting, smelly hay. The only other piece of furniture in the room was a small rickety table with a candle on top. Elizabeth tried her best to make it feel like home. She sewed together some bits of material she found around the house to try and make curtains. Sadly the only materials she could find were awful and the curtains ended up looking just that, so she used them as washcloths instead.

There was one positive thing about her room in the attic though and that was the view out of her little window. She could see the whole village and further out she could see the dark woods surrounding it, like a dark monster looming.


She walked down the stairs carefully and quietly so as not to wake up her masters and headed towards the kitchen when she stopped halfway. She noticed that the grand front door was open. Elizabeth was shocked....the door was never open. She rushed into the kitchen and dragged Cook out.

Cook was the only person in the house that Elizabeth could talk to because all of the other staff were always so busy. Cook took pity on the little housemaid and tried her best to help her with her chores. Cook was the only person Elizabeth trusted.

Cook was equally shocked to see the door open. She turned to Elizabeth and said “You go.” “What?!” Elizabeth cried. “This is your chance to have a new life and anywhere is better than this wretched place.”

There was a long silence.

“Come with me” Elizabeth said quietly. “I’m getting old” Cook replied “I’d only slow you down.” Cook looked down at Elizabeth sadly, “get a move on now dearie, his highness will be getting up any minute.” Elizabeth walked towards the door and took one last look at the only person who had ever showed her any kindness. ‘Thank you’ she whispered. She turned and walked out of the horrible house. She didn’t look back.

She walked along the outskirts of the town. She didn’t walk through the town just in case she ran into Mrs. Andersons on her weekly shopping spree. She was sure she knew her way to the train station and was just nearing the station when she saw Sir Anderson and his fellow hunters. They were walking towards her! She spun around


and ran as fast as she could into the woods. But he had already seen her and was catching up fast. She thought of what would happen if he caught her and shuddered. She took a quick glance over her shoulder and could see that he was caught in some brambles. She took this chance to slow down and think of what she could do. She couldn’t keep running forever.

Suddenly she spotted a brick wall in between the trees. She turned and bolted towards the castle as fast as the wind. She peered through the trees and saw something moving – it was a person standing over a big pot, a cauldron. It was a witch! Elizabeth thought of turning back but she could see Sir Anderson brushing away the last of the brambles, so she ran on. The witch looked up at her for the first time. ‘Please help me, there’s a man chasing me with a gun!’ Elizabeth cried.

‘I will help you, dearie. I can see that you’ve been through worse times than I have’. (Of course she wasn’t a real witch – back then anyone who made medicine from herbs was considered a witch.)

Just then Sir Anderson burst through the bushes, eyes glowing with rage, and made a beeline for Elizabeth. The witch quickly shoved the cauldron, full of boiling water, into the path of Sir Anderson. And with a puff of smoke he was gone. Elizabeth gasped. There was a moment of silence... “Thank you.”Elizabeth said (even though she didn’t know what to think of had just happened). “Now take this and be on your way dearie.” The witch replied. She reached into the cauldron, pulled out Mr Anderson’s wallet and gave it to Elizabeth. Elizabeth looked inside; the wallet was bulging with hundreds of pounds! Elizabeth’s eyes widened at the sight of so much


money.”Thankyou.”She said. “But I couldn’t possibly take it all.”“I don’t want any money.”The witch cried. “All shopkeepers are too frightened of me anyway”

“Thank you.”Elizabeth said again. The witch smiled. “Just keep heading west and soon you will find your way to London. Okay dearie.”

And so Elizabeth headed west for London. She didn’t know what her life in London would be like but she knew that she could start a new life there away from the horrible house and away from Mr Anderson.

Something is following me. I knew it the whole way home but now more than ever it is bugging me.I quickened my pace for two reasons; one something is following me, and two it was getting colder.

The trees around me were becoming more familiar. But it was so cold as the icy wind sliced through me, making me shiver.

Finally, back to the ruined castle ‘Caisleán i nGallimh.’ I ran as fast as I could into the castle, locked the old creaky door and jammed the key in my purple leather handbag. I usually hung the keys on the on the rusty hook, but I couldn’t take any chances when something was following me. I ran upstairs to the seventh floor, being careful I didn’t get my feet stuck in the missing steps. As soon as I was in my room, the second door on the right, I looked


outside. The familiar Willow tree whistling in the Autumn breeze, the waterfall right beside the tree, giving off a peaceful feeling. Then, I saw the human boy and the peaceful feeling faded. He is banging on the door. I’m getting so annoyed. How dare he think that a human boy could just follow me home and expect to be let into my castle? Expect to be treated with respect when mankind did such things to me, when they killed me at the age of 16?

Thinking back to when I was human, not just a ghost, but… human. Mother and father were telling me about how, the day I was born, they planted a willow tree, and how they had never planted anything before. Talking about how I was going to be the future queen. Everything was so perfect. Until my mother and father killed me, with the help of a whole army of 500 men. The army cornered me. When they had, my mother and father held the family sword and dug it into my lungs. I mentally punched them for that. Trust me, I got my revenge. I stole the family sword and killed them the same way they did me. Bye bye lungs to both of them. They killed me, I mean, their own daughter, because I ran around with now shoes on, talked to animals, was a vegetarian and once I wanted and did bring a stray cat into the house. Ever since then, the castle was abandoned.

He kept banging on the door. So, I gave in. I ran down the wooden stairs and answered the door. The thing about ghosts is that all those tales people believe in are nonsense. Well, apart from ghosts being dead people. But, they don’t HAVE to be people. My horse, Maciases Bride and my cat Chimpasa are ghosts too.


“WILLOW Walsh!!! I know you have a secret to save mankind! So tell me NOW! By the way, I’m Creg, nice to meet you”. “What a way to introduce yourself, follow me home, bang on the door so loud you’d think there was a hurricane, then shout at me when I answer you, Typical Humans”, I said very calmly with a touch of irritation. “Typical humans?” he said. His firey hair covering his bright blue eyes. His hair was like an afro with straight hair spiking in every direction. His eyes were frustrated. Then I said, “humans are SO arrogant and SO unreliable. Oh, and yes, I do know a secret to save mankind. Why?” He replied “Cuz I am a human and I don’t want my family and friends to become extinct”. “ Well, I will tell you if you do a favour for ME, someone other than your lousy human self” I said with a humourous tone, wondering what it is he will say next, probably about himself… “Hey, that is really racist”. Then he looked down at his bare feet and then looked at mine. “What size shoe are you?” “How should I know what size I am? That is the tailor’s job” said I. Silly question, how should I know? Then he said “Well I don’t really have any shoes and neither do you, so… Wait what is the favour? to be your boyfriend?” I made a face and said in disgust, “what? NO WAY! I will tell you the secret, but after you must die, keep me company”. I saw his face go blue, then green. He threw up on my doorstep and then went pink and said, “Wwwwwoohh”, he gulped, and then said “whyyy?” starting to cry. “Oh stop your crying, you don’t HAVE to die”. He stopped and said, “ok fine, now what’s the secret?” I gave him an old letter I always kept in my handbag. “I got this from the family sword just after I died” as he read it his eyebrows shot up. It said Snobgolloccccce has a plan to kill mankind and if you ever need knis, here it its:

He was stunned. “Let’s do this” he said, grinning for the first time. “Ok, you take Zues and I’ll take Maciases Bride, if, you know how to ride…” I said. “Walk, trot, canter, gallop and jump” he said, looking excited. I’m not sure why…

We galloped for fifteen minutes and were there. There he was. The foul looking, jaw dropping, head shaking, ground stomping, ferocious Beast, Snobgolloccccce. My blond hair and my green eyes felt frozen. My pale skin pales. We dismounted and left our horses to graze. We both took a deep breath and he said “look after the horses and wait for me. Thanks for the letter”. I hid behind a tree, holding the horses. Oh, what have I done, getting a boy to die for me.My own selfish reasons. The human side of me was showing now. I will watch the whole battle. Do what he asked.

He knocked him out and ripped a toe ring off Snobgoloccccce. I winced as Snobby grunted and punched Creg in the nose, youch as Snobby gets knocked out again with Creg’s bat. Creg cuts off another toe ring and Snobby’s toe starts pouring out green pussy stuff, his bood. Yuch! Snobby then breaks his shoulder. He screams with pain and with his good arm he cuts off two-in-one! SNOBBY IS DEAD! Here’s the hard fact, Creg dying. He drowned in the wood in


a puddle as Snobgolloccccce shrivels like a plant with no water. Then he burst into flames. He was defeated in battle. He can’t stand up because his belly is ten times fatter than his head, so he did the whole thing lying down.

We both rode home, both ghosts. So Willow and Creg will live half alive until Willow sees there is more to life than death.

The Captain’s Good Side by Dragan Calic


Hi, I’m Jim, and this what happened to me and my shipmate’s one night. It was terrible, worst thing I’ve ever seen. They called it hurricane Helen. Me and my shipmate’s, Bender and our captain, were setting sail for the Galapagos island when it hit. All three of us quickly ran below deck. The captain said “that’s it for the night, I’m going to bed”. Bender and I and decided to start playing a games of cards. Suddenly we heard the captain snoring. We both started to giggle. We combined are heads and we came up with a prank to play on him.

For the prank we needed whipped cream and a small feather. I supplied the whipped cream and bender got the small feather. I poured some whipped cream into his hand and Bender tickled his nose with the small feather. Suddenly he smashed his hand against his face. The captain’s face was as red as a tomato for what me and


Bender did to him.” Walk the plank he shouted. “You’ll have to catch us first” I said. “This will be fun he replied”. He chased us all over the ship. He boxed us in. ”Walk the plank“ he repeated. As we were about to jump my dog Chaps, who had witnessed what was happening, quickly ran full speed towards the captain and pushed him into the ocean. ”Let me back on the ship” roared the captain. “No” replied Bender, “not until you treat us with some respect.” “No” he said, ”I am the captain and you should treat me with respect.” “Ok” I said, “it’s your choice, you can stay in the freezing water or you can apologise and we will let u back on.”

“Ok” he shouted “I’m sorry let me back on the ship the water is freezing. After we all calmed down, we each drank a pint of beer. “Boy’s, I’m sorry for the way I treated u these past few years. I just want you to know I’m done”. “That’s good”, said Bender, “that’s good”.

He’s not that Bad by Alicia Carreyette

My story is a leap of imagination. I got my inspiration from the warrior cat series by Erin Hunter and I have taken the characters Barley: who is a cat who left his brother scourges clan: Blood Clan

to be a pet.

Tiger Star: who was the leader of shadow clan before he left to find Scourge he is also Scourge’s other brother.

and Scourge: the main character who was born in a castle and lived there most of his life until he found his own Clan. In order to explore

the relationship between them beyond the series warrior cats…


Panting, struggling to keep going, Scourge pushed himself on through the forest. He stumbled upon an overgrown path leading up to a dilapidated castle. It was like no cat had ever set paw in it before.

Old memories flowed over him: Memories of his brothers and sisters: Tiger Star who is now the leader of Shadow Clan and Ragged Star who was not at the fight, and whom he had not seen in a while.

Suddenly he heard cats’ voices in the distance dragging him back to reality, “Scourge is gone, we have to find him.”

Scourge decided that he would have to take quick action, and thought to himself - there is a lake near here, I will have to swim across to lose my scent. Everyone knows I hate water. But the clans are probably behind them. My destiny awaits” he thought sarcastically.

“ Urgh, I hate water it’s… it’s… it’s… cold and wet”.

He scrambled out of the lake and shook the water off his black and white pelt. He cautiously entered the castle and noticed a strangely familiar calm atmosphere before collapsing on a dusty cushion like rag. The day seemed to be going so slowly, it was still only noon.

The scent of his mother and the sadness of his loss enveloped him, but there was the smell of something else there too. …Tiger Star my brother has come back thought Scourge.

Then he heard a twig breaking. He walked out of the castle and came face to face with Barley the traitor and Tiger Star.


“Tiger Star, why have you brought him here?”

“Scourge, don’t you remember, Barley is your brother?”

“He’s not my brother!”

“Actually I am,” murmured Barley.

“So why did you leave the clan?” asked Scourge.

“Because you never treated me like family!” Exclaimed Barley.

“What happened to Ragged Star? Why didn’t you bring him with you?”

“Haven’t you heard, Ragged Star was killed by a Medicine-Cat?” …..***

“What Medicine Cat would kill another?” exclaimed Scourge.

“Well she did, and if we don’t hide she will probably do the same to us.” Laughed Tiger Star sarcastically.

“Come on then, I know a place we can go, but we have got to swim across the lake to lose our scent just incase any other cats followed you.”

‘Let’s go” Meowed Barley nervously.

“Where are we?” asked Tiger Star.

“I thought you would recognize your own home when you saw it. This is where you were born.”

“Wow” squealed Tiger Star and Barley together.


Suddenly Scourge realized how late it was.

“Whoa, it’s late, I feel like I haven’t eaten in days” Exclaimed Barley.

“Well then, let’s go hunt and get our strength up for the swim!” yowled Scourge excitedly. There must be something to eat in this castle.”

“ One question: How are you still alive?

“ I am a leader. I’ve got nine lives.”

“ What? When?”Cried Barley.

“About two days before Tiger Star found me.”

“ Oh” miowed Tiger Star and Barley together.”

It was a bright and sunny morning, across the river, and Graybeard watched the river as it flowed with a shine. “I can see a shadow, it had floated closer” said Graybeard

“What is it Sammy?” he asked. Sammy the sailor replied I think it’s a ship, it has windows as clear as the water, “Oh no its coming. Quickly drive the boat” said Graybeard , “the captain’s in bed, I’ll get him”, said Séan the ships director, “Oh no, he’s covered in blood , it’s as red as mars and as cold as Pluto, he’s dead”.

That means there’s an invader “ahh the ship is sinking” said Sammy. “I can hear bombs, smell smoke, and feel water” said Séan. “Take their ship quickly”, said Graybeard. “HA HA they are drowning, sail the boat” said Séan. “Why?” “Because they are yelling and the water police will come” Graybeard said. “Uh oh,


there’s blood everywhere” said Sammy. “Sail quickly Séan and Sammy”, Graybeard said.

“Oh great it’s raining and it’s getting dark” said Sammy. ”Hey Graybeard there is a castle”, said Séan,” will we stay there?”, “Okay, we can hide there until tomorrow“ Graybeard said. The next morning it was cold everything was white . “Its snow”, said Séan.

“Oh no, the ship is stuck, the engine is frozen” said Graybeard. “Hey there’s Gráinne Mháol, can we stay at your castle?” They all said. “Yes of course”, said Gráinne.

“Let’s make an ice skating ring that’s as clear as glass” and they all lived happily ever after.

Me, Mum and Charlotte on the Emerald Eyeby Maria Cunningham

“Hi my name is Mia and I live on a pirate ship called The Emerald eye

My mother named it after me because she says I have emerald green eyes. Anyway, back to the story. . . . .

Well it all starts with a calm morning. I got out of bed and looked sleepily out my window at the glistening sea. The lovely smell of egg and bacon pulled me to the galley (the kitchen on a ship) where my mother was cooking . “oh Mia!” She said “I thought you would have slept in much longer”. “I would have but I couldn’t resist the smell of breakfast” mum giggled “you’re funny Mia” she said


So as we were having breakfast mum looked at me and said “I have a treat for you Mia”. “oh really what is it?” I said “well your uncle has gone away with the army and he asked if we could mind your sweet little cousin Charlotte for the weekend, I know you two are best friends so I said yes”. “You did what?” I said in an angry voice. My mum looked puzzled “what?” she said “do you not like her or something?”

I knew in my head that I despised Charlotte the last time I saw her she was rich and mean and bossy and “oh” did I forget to mention she’s the same age as me but still I didn’t want to upset mum so I said “ok she can stay but only for the weekend!”, Mum agreed

So we went to her castle in our ship. As we pulled up beside it I saw her! Her hair blowing in the breeze as golden as the sun, her cheeks as rosy as an apple with her frilly pink dress on!! Her butler had some trouble carrying her giant pink suitcase up to the ship it was quite funny!!! She walked slowly through the door as if she expected someone to take her coat or something I could feel that we were not going to get along. She said in her posh English voice “Butler, I’m not getting any younger here hurry up with my suitcase”. Her butler came in with her case. Then he ran back into the castle quickly.

She looked around she didn’t look very happy. Mum tried to be friendly “well I’m quite hungry how about a boiled egg”? I said, “I can’t eat eggs I am strictly allergic I can’t even look at them!!!” Me and mum looked at each other this was going to be a very tough weekend!! But little did they know there was much more in store for them.


For the rest of the day Charlotte was as annoying as ever, demanding things here and there, but soon it was time for bed. I brought Charlotte down to my cabin we got into our beds and just when I was about to fall asleep I heard a bang! This was not just any old bang this was a great cannon shot. I got up quickly and ran to mum’s bedroom I shook her “Mum! Mum! Wake up I heard a cannon shot” “ok Mia don’t panic we will be ok”! said mum so I calmed down and ran up on deck and there before me stood pirates upon pirates, big ones, small ones, fat ones, scary ones all invading our ship what will I do? I thought “well don’t just stand there get Charlotte! We need as much help as we can get!” So I went down to Charlotte trembling in her bed “ok Charlotte this is not a good time to be scared we need you to help us fight the pirates here”. I threw her some of my old clothes “well you can’t go fighting pirates in a frock now can you”? I said, “no” she said “but thank you for the clothes” “you’re welcome” I said “now let’s go fight some pirates”. So she got changed and we both ran up on deck together and started defending our ship.

We spent hours fighting off the pirates but every minute we got weaker and weaker. We needed help badly but just then I remembered when my dad died he had given me the most precious sword he had. It was long and beautiful but I had never really used it at all. So I ran down to my cabin and pulled it out from under my bed. It was just as I remembered.

I ran back up on deck and held my sword up and shouted chaaarrrgge!!!!! Suddenly the clouds parted and it started pouring rain in minutes the deck was as slippery as an ice rink suddenly I saw a MASSIVE wave towering over our ship and and


and……………….. Everything went black. It was quiet; I got up from the deck my head was spinning. I felt sick and dizzy!!! But the funny thing was there were no pirates to be seen. I called out “is anybody there”? Suddenly I heard a thump!! “Oh my head” “oh Charlotte it’s, you I was so worried”! I ran over and hugged her tight and behind her I could see mum running up to see us. I was crying with happiness. I was so relieved because I really thought at least one of us wouldn’t have made it but we did, we made it!!!!

So after a steaming bath and a hot cup of coco it was time for Charlotte to go so as mum was just getting the ship ready to go me and Charlotte stood up on the deck together and looked up at the night sky charlotte turned to me and said “Mia , I’m sorry that I was so unpleasant and rude to you and your mum earlier I guess I was just annoyed that my dad went away with the army again, do you forgive me Mia?” I thought for a moment “of course I forgive you “ I said

And so, we all lived happily ever after as we sailed off into the night!!! (:>*

Bone Saves The Day! By LillienDizon

“Arise my dear princess, for it is morning! The sun is shining bright, your pancakes and sausages are ready, and Bone is chasing robotic small animals again.” Said Bob the guardian soldier. Bob always up Princess Starlight at 8:30 a.m. It was ‘tradition’ as he would call it. “Ugh! Did you not give Bone his daily metal bolts and steel again?!” She said.

Bone is a robotic guard dog that has lots of different important modes such as fierce dog mode, friendly dog mode, guard dog mode, etc. He is also water proof and Bob’s favourite dog. No one has ever seen Bobs face before except for his parents who fought in a battle of the brave competition and… let’s just say they lost. He has worn a suit of rust proof armor since he was 3 yrs old. Princess


Starlight (princess or princess Star for short) rose from her silky purple and gold double bed and grabbed her small purple laptop from the side table next to her bed. (She really loves the colour purple. Even her silky long gown is purple.) Her long, raven coloured hair was wavy on the pillow. Her dark brown eyes darted from one part of the screen to the other as she typed. Her snow- white fingers gently tapped each key on the keyboard being careful not to break it.

Suddenly bone darted in with something in his mouth. He put it down and turned on his English human speech programme and told his master(s) what he found. “PRINCESS! I FOUND AN OLD NOTE IN A BOTTLE!” (Letters that are all in caps is bone talking in a robotic voice) “Bring it to me!” commanded Bob. He read the old, brown, crumbling, note in the light green, cracking bottle. The note said this: ‘Reader, it is bad luck that you found this. It has a curse on it that attracts black knights to it. They are very hard to defeat. The only way to defeat them is to’ the rest was washed off by seawater. By now Princess Star was eating her pancakes and sausages. “Bone! Go fly around and watch for the black knights.” Bone deployed his jet pack and flew off threw the open window. The princess started typing once more. “Just received mysterious note in bottle from the 20th century or so.(So old!) Anyone know about black knights and how to stop them? Princess Starlight” 4 hours later she checked back to see over 5,000 people talking back.

(It is now 12:30 when she checks back.) One of her friends said: ‘Yo!!! Heard about your problem! I sent my biggest robots to help you out. So… Later bro! Gonna catch some waves!’ The she heard a noise from outside. It was Bone leading her friend’s robots


to her aid. They had to spend 6 hours to recharge and train for combat though. At 6:30, all the robots short circuited and powered down except for Bone and Bob even fainted!

A storm seemed to be approaching with the black knights. They could hear a booming of thunder in the near distance. It wasn’t long before they were on the shore rushing towards the castle. They burst in and ran up the spiralling steps to the master bedroom where Bone and Princess were. Bone growled fiercely at the door. The poor Princess was shivering in her bed. Her eyes were wide open and her lips were quivering. Bone looked back at the Princess and the fainted Bob intently. He had something to protect. The black knights burst in with a loud ‘BANG!’ of their battering ram.

Bone dashed towards the black knights, teeth bared, claws as long as fingers, grabbed their weapons in his mouth, and ripped the weapons apart viciously, storms raging and thundering, winds blowing fiercely as he shredded the weapons apart bit by bit! The black knights took one look at this for they had never seen anyone or anything even dent their weapons before! Bone barked louder than the thunder outside and smacked his lips at the black metal armour they were wearing. The black knights fled in time for Bob to wake up from his coma. Bob rubbed Bone as Bone barked at the knights from their little unnamed island. The storm was now clear and they watched as the Black knights sailed their tiny white ship back across the large moonlit pool of water. Now the princess was safe (again!) in her soft, silky, purple and golden room. She grabbed her laptop and told her friends and followers about her


deathly experience and about what an exciting adventure she had. Better than the other ones!

Once upon a time a long time ago, well maybe not that long ago, around the 19th century, a sailor woke up.[He got pushed on the


floor and then he woke up]. An angry voice said, wake up sailor. The man that was pushed on the floor lost his memory, he didn’t know where he was, who he was and he was skin and bones.

Next minute he was scrubbing the ship’s deck in the middle of the Carribean. He was tying the sails and he was better at it than he thought he would have been.

Then Nameless (let’s just call him that) noticed some men dead at the top of the sails. They were tied by the ankle. Nameless asked men around him in Spanish ( that’s what he speaks) what was going on. But they were giving different answers.

That night there was a mutiny (and a bloody terrible one). They did not know that a war was taking place. The ships cabin opened just as Nameless and the slaves were victorious.

As a hundred and fifty rats ran out of the cabin, Blackbeard was drinking a bottle of blood. When it was nearly empty it turned to red sand. Then, as he threw out his sword all the slaves froze (not entirely). A bigger war with more men came out of nowhere. Then, no noticed that Nameless stabbed Blackbeard in the back and sliced his head off and threw his body into the sea.

As they threw his body into the sea, it floated three times around the ship with his head back like he was riding a dragon. To be continued….............

Picnic at Winsor Castle by Trinity Gask

“What was that?” said Sam, as the three siblings heard another loud bang. “Want to check it out?” said Jakob. “Typical Mum, never lets us go and have a picnic in the woods, but as soon as she does, bang we have to go do something else.” “All I want is a picnic” said Quinn.

So the three packed up their stuff and went to see what made the loud bang. About a minute later they reached the end of the woods and standing before them was a huge moss covered castle.

As they knocked on the door they heard footsteps getting louder and louder, but no one came. The three waited, but still no answer. They decided to knock again, they did. This time there were no


footsteps but the door opened. The three children gingerly walked in and when they were in, the door loudly shut behind them.

As they looked around it was silent and the air was still.

“O.K” said Jakob, “Quinn! You look upstairs”.

“Sam! You look on the ground floor and the garden”.

“I’ll take the basement”.

“Let’s go” said Sam.

“Fine” said Quinn.

So the three set off. Quinn went upstairs, Sam went out to the garden and Jakob went down to the basement.

“Weird” said Quinn as she wandered through the long corridors. To her right there was a huge painting of someone whose name was Charles Winsor, he probably owned the castle. The man in the painting had short grey hair and a grey moustache. He also had pale, white skin and he was wearing a big black hat with a red, black and gold robe. The painting looked very old. The man in the painting had dark green eyes. They looked so real and Quinn moved in to get a closer look… BANG!!!

“Quinn!” called Sam as he ran up the stairs.

He ran up and down every corridor but he couldn’t find Quinn anywhere.


“Quinn!” he shouted again and again but still he could not find his sister.

He decided to go down to Jakob. Maybe he knew where she was.

“Jakob” said Sam as he ran down the winding stair case. “What’s wrong?” asked Jakob.

“I can’t find Quinn, I looked everywhere” said Sam. “I’ll help you find her” said Jakob.

“Quickly, I need her she’s my twin” said Sam.

“I know she’s your twin Sam” said Jakob.

“Then hurry up!” said Sam.

The two searched for hours. Then there was a loud bang coming from the kitchen. The two boys ran into the kitchen. The fridge was open but no one was there. They took a quick scan of the room but all they saw was a sink, a table and a fridge.

“Can we go back to our picnic now?” said a voice behind them. The boys turned around and behind them stood their sister Quinn.

“Where were you?” shouted Sam.

“I was upstairs when I heard a bang and I went to the nearest room to see what it was and when I walked in and the door slammed behind me. When I tried to open the door it was jammed, I tried again and it opened.

So I walked down here to see what was in the fridge,

and here I am”. “You had me worried sick!” said Jakob.


“So… can we go back to our picnic now?” said Quinn.

“O.K” said Jakob.

The three walked out of the castle and when they reached the woods they started to run. When they reached their picnic spot they looked back and all they saw were trees.

“We’ll never know what made that noise, did you find anything Quinn?” said Sam.

“No, nothing” she replied.

Let’s just say she’s not very honest… DUN! DUN! DUN!

I had nothing to do but wait. Wait for him. Sir Reginald Flatterwon. He was due to arrive at five ‘o’ clock. The rain was bucketing down. I could see the trees swaying as the sun set. The wind howled. I had to see Henry. I grabbed my cloak. I had no time for shoes. I ran outside, my feet squelching in the wet mud. I didn’t stop until I had made it to the servants’ house. I much preferred it to the castle. It was a large wooden house with four floors. All of the servants live there. I ran up to the third floor.


“Henry!” I called. “Where are you?”“Over here!” called a voice. I ran over to him and hugged him. He felt the ring. I looked at him. His dark eyes were shinning.

“I don’t want to.” I said. He rustled his dark tangled hair.

“I know.” I looked at him. “So I guess he’s rich.” I nodded.

“Henry..,” I started but he cut me off.

“Amelia.” I wanted to stay in his arms forever but I could hear my mother calling me. Her harsh voice ruined the moment. I smiled, almost laughed. Then I realized why she was calling me. Reginald had arrived.

“Goodbye.” Was the only thing I could manage. Henry nodded and, as I walked home, all I could think about was how I was going to manage.

“Amelia”, Reginald’s voice boomed as I walked in. “You’re wet!” my mother snapped, squeezing my long plait. My mother was a tall woman with long graying ginger hair that she always piled up on top of her head. Her eyes were small and sharp as she glared at me. “Well what are we waiting for!?” Reginald yelled. “Let’s eat!”

Dinner was an unpleasant experience. As we finished the soup, and started on the main, Reginald started talking wedding details. How lovely his suit was and how much he wanted to see me in my dress. He went on for a while longer and then started drinking glass after glass of wine. He stopped and nodded at my mother. “Yes and the wedding is the day after tomorrow.” I spluttered and choked on my dessert.


“What!?” I coughed, bits of cake spraying everywhere. One of the servants had to come and bang me on the back. “Tomorrow is the last day you will be a Tormwater.” My mother smiled a tight smile. “And you will soon be a Flaterwon.” Reginald also smiled, but it was a hungry smile, the kind a snake makes before it pounces on a mouse. I did not want this, any of this! “No I, I, I dismiss you!” I cried, and ran up to my room. I don’t cry. I could hear my mother calling, “Amelia! Amelia!! You can’t just do that!” She was screaming now. “She did it! Grace…” “Don’t you dare say that filth’s name! She is a disgrace to women!” “Grace O’Malley Grace O’Malley Grace O’Malley!” I shouted down the stairs.

I ran into my room and looked at the engagement ring. 24 carat with 3 small diamond 1 big diamond and a sapphire. It was quite pretty. I pulled it off my finger and stomped on it! Not a dent. I looked around my room frantically. There was a large trunk at the foot of my bed. I tried to lift it. It weighed a ton. I pulled with all my strength but it only lifted a fraction. I quickly slid the ring under it and dropped the trunk. I heard a satisfying crunch.

I pulled the trunk off the ring, it had split down the middle but the jewels were all in one piece. I opened the window and flung them all out. I smiled to myself then realized the situation I was in. I pulled on my cloak and ran down the stairs. Quickly I ran out the door into the pouring rain. I had no idea where to go. I saw the servants working and then I saw Myra the young milk maid running towards me. “It’s Henry!” she cried. “Sir Reginald is looking for him.” We began to run but Reginald got there first. We waited outside the door of the servant’s house. We could hear Reginald screaming at Henry. “And if I ever see you with her again – I will…”


Reginald was cut off by Henry’s voice. He mumbled something that I couldn’t quite hear. Reginald yelled again and I heard a horrible slashing sound. Myra looked at me with wide anxious eyes. She was ‘just the milk maid’ mother had told me time and time again, but she felt like a younger sister to me. I felt she needed me to be the strong one at times like this. I decided to go into Henry and Reginald. Reginald was holding Henry by the arm. He was holding a long stick and one side of Henry’s face had a long scrape on it. Reginald stared at me, surprised. “What’s happening?” I asked, trying to remain calm. “Darling I was just…” I held up my hand to stop Reginald. “Henry, what happened?” I asked. “I just wanted to give you these.” Henry held up a big and beautiful handpicked bouquet of flowers. “I know you love them.” I forgot all about Reginald for a second. “I love you Amelia.” Henry whispered. I heard an amused shriek from Reginald.

“A young woman, as pretty as a flower and as elegant as a swan has to put up with being loved by servant filth!” He shrieked. “When she has a handsome rich man like my self!” He was so angry, flecks Of saliva were hitting Henry in the face. He grabbed Henry and tied a rope around his arms. “This is how we treat idiotic servants where I’m from!” Henry was just letting it all happen.

I tried to pull Reginald away but Henry pushed me away and shook his head.“Its for the best.” He said as Reginald pulled him out the door. Myra was standing with her ear against the door. Reginald pushed her out of the way, right into the mud. “Servant scum always getting in the way! “ He yelled as he pulled Henry out of sight.


I walked into the medical hut. Henry was sitting, shirtless, on a stool. There were long bleeding cuts running down his chest, all the way down to his hips. Lynda ,the servants nurse, was there running cold water down the cuts.

“And what, may I ask, did this damage” I said.

“A stick.” He was always so calm. He took a deep breath. “Want to run away?” He asked eyes shining. I knew he wasn’t joking.

“Of course, but just one thing.” I said smiling.

“And what would that be?”

“We bring Myra.” I had to bring her.

“We bring Myra. I like that idea.” He laughed.

I pulled up the hood of my cloak and nodded at Henry and Myra. I then climbed upon my horse and set off for the biggest adventure of my life.

Thirteen by Selkie Hennessy Packman

Thirteen’s heart was racing. Yet again she was running from the police.

It just seemed normal now. She was always getting into trouble.

You see, thirteen is an orphan, and she needs to survive somehow and for most people, stealing is the easiest option.

Now, you may be wondering about thirteen’s name.

Well, as I mentioned earlier on, thirteen is an orphan. So she made up her own name.

She changes her name when she feels like it.


At the moment she is called thirteen because she is feeling very unlucky like Friday 13th.

Now that you know about Thirteen’s name, it is time you find out what she looks like.

Well to begin with she has jet black hair which she ties up with a long, purple ribbon. She has a black dress with a detailed, red flower design.

She has knee-high black boots with purple laces.

Now, if you remember, thirteen was running from the police.

Thirteen was as quick as a hare, bounding through the dense woodland.

She did not know this part of the woods very well. All she could do was

Run and hope for the best.

To her extreme luck, she came across an abandoned castle. It looked recently lived in but there was now body there now.

She ran up to the door and shoved it open. Inside there was a long hallway. There were thirteen doors along both sides.

“I’ll take the 13th one!” Thirteen decided in her head.

She ran down the hall and pushed open the 13th door. “Oh no!” Thirteen thought, as she realised that this door lead to the tower.

Then she heard the front door open. Someone was coming. She would have to take this way no matter what now.She ran up the


spiralling staircase. She did not dare look behind her, but the sound of footsteps behind her told her that the police were catching up.Just as she thought the stairs would never end, she reached another door.

As quickly as she could, she opened the door. She shut the door behind her. She grabbed an old chair and put it up against the door to give herself some time.She looked around. The room was filled with old furniture covered in white sheets. There were holes in the roof. Water dripped steadily through them.There was a large open window directly across from her.Suddenly she had an idea. It was a mad one but it just a tiny chance that it would work.

Running back to the door, she cleared a path to the window.

Then putting the chair away from the door, she hid behind the door.

Then the police force burst through the door. Thirteen grabbed one of them and took the guns he had in his hands. “Don’t move!!” thirteen loudly said.

None of the police dared move when thirteen had one of them hostage.

Then, thirteen slowly walked backward towards the window.

Then, she jumped away from her hostage and jumped out the window before any of the other police could shoot.

Now that she was out of the castle she only had 2 things to worry about,

1. Where she was going to land, and2. What she would do then (if she survived, that is!)


She hoped that she would land on that old pile of hay she had seen out the window. But the chances were about 1 in 200.

She suddenly landed with a thud.

“Am I dead?” thirteen asked herself. She felt around with her hands. She did not have the courage to look just yet.

“Hay?” she thought out loud.

“I actually landed on the hay!”

She jumped up. It was true; she had landed on the pile of hay.

As quickly as she could, thirteen stomped her way to the edge of the forest.

She left a trail of deep footprints on the mud.

Then she took of her shoes and ran the opposite direction.

This way the police would be thrown off course.

Thirteen had a lucky escape.

''Oh no!!!'' he screamed as his crew was fighting!

09:01''BEEP. BOP. BOOP!'' said Roboman.''I know!'' yelled Jolly Jim. And then, BlackBeard with matches tangled in his big beard, said: ''Take everything and everyone!!!'' Then, all of a sudden, a rope appeared around Jolly Jim! ''Let!.. Me!..-''


''Shut up!!!'' yelled BlackBeard ''Make a hole in the bottom of the ship to sink it!'' he said whit a big, bloody sword in his hand. ''I. Think. That. Were. Getting. Kidnapped.'' said Roboman. ''H E L P ! ! !'' yelled Jolly Jim. Then, suddenly, BLACK .1 hour later...

10:30''Hahhhh!? Where am I?'' asked Jolly Jim. ''You. Are. On. An. Island.'' said Roboman.''Where is my crew? And my ship? And my treasure?'' asked Jolly Jim.''Black.Beard'' said Roboman. ''You mean he killed my crew, sunk my ship and took my treasure?!?! asked Jolly Jim. ''Y.E.S.'' said Roboman and covered his robotic ears. ''NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'' screamed Jolly Jim.Then a weird noise that went like: ARGFEDERG! Roboman scanned the area and he said that there is 200 people in the trees! They all came out with ripped, stained dirty clothes and all had a beard around 20 cm!

11:30''Ok. If we move in from the left, he will see us. But if we move in from the right we will...”A whole 30 boring minutes later...

12:00''So! Are we ready!''shouted Jolly Jim. ''Yeah!!!!!!! But now we need a ship.''said a man from the crowd. ''Oh, damn it!'' yelled Jolly Jim...A whole boring hour of building...

''There's BlackBeard!!! Attack! Kill everyone!''screamed Jolly Jim. They all jumped on the ship and killed three (out of twenty-six). But then, BlackBeard came out of his cabin! Everything went silent, not even a mouse was heard. Then, suddenly, ropes began to move and tie around Jolly Jim! Then BlackBeard came closer and said: ''I'll give you your treasure back if you give me and my crew money to buyice-cream.'' asked BlackBeard hoping that he will say yes. ''Deal''

So Jolly Jim got his treasure and a new crew, BlackBeard got ice-crem and they lived Happily...Ever...After! =)

The Great Sea of Morian, known for its vastness and tremendous beauty, is the core of the realm of Daragas. But, as they say, a red apple has a black core; treachery lurks in these waters, like a shark for its prey. Evil haunts the sailors, who trespass on these waters, even though they seldom do. Calm the waves seem...

The buccaneers of the western coast of the island of Morian were feared throughout the land. Even a mention of them caused a shudder. News of their doings spread ear to ear, like disease.

The captain of this sea army is the ferocious Un–named, known as “Captain” by his crew. His great beard is tangled, as the waves on


the coast of the remote island of Istra and black as coal. Sherlock is the name of the Second Commander of this dreaded fleet. Skinny as a beam of light, shining through gaps in closed curtains. Skinny as light, yet not the brightest.

Their ship, the “Western Shadow”, withstands fire and ice, water and wind. As old as time, it seems, this ship has a violent and bloody history. Passed, or better said “taken”, down from generation to generation by murder.

The waves are like mountains today. Yet, no wind. It’s a cold morning, just like any other. But the air is strange today. No chattering in the lower decks as usual, nor the occasional screech from Sherlock. Silence.

Calmly, I walked towards the upper decks, up the long staircase. When I got to the deck, I realised everyone was working, just like normal, yet silence, with the occasional mutter of ‘Something smells fishy’ or ‘That wretched captain is plotting something.’ I continued towards the stern and started scrubbing the floor.

Moments later, the captain walked out of his study and on to the podium. This great man of knowledge, but greed, lifted his left arm for all attention. All eyes stood fixed on this man. ‘We received important news,’ he said clear and loud.’ This news must not reach ears, other than our own. A small island, by the name of Deg’arr, is home of the cannibalistic tribe of Toratha. It is said that the chief of


this tribe has the Key of Life, an ancient artefact worth more than our lives. With that, he left us, whispering orders in Sherlock’s ear.

Hour after hour passed, work felt less possible by the second. Then, the ship came to a sudden stop. Sherlock’s familiar English accent shout echoed throughout the ship: ‘Get on the deck, you lazy scum, and unload the boats!’ I got up to the upper decks and started unloading the boats from the store compartment. By the time we’ve finished unloading the boats, all two hundred and fifty three of them, we had been ordered to get into the boats to row to land.

I got into a boat with four other crew members with me. The boats were so small, and I was so crammed in the middle, that I felt breathless. Not a word from the other crew mates beside me; two of them were rowing and the other two were sitting silently beside me.

Then instead of the salty smell of the sea, there was a refreshing smell of mangoes and other tropical fruit. I turned around and saw a beautiful row of palm trees. The sound of sea birds was filling the air. A magnificent feeling, but I knew this couldn’t last.

We reached the island, awaited by a group of three natives. We killed them all with our muskets. ‘Their camp is where the smoke rises above the trees; in the middle of the forest,’ explained Sherlock.

We set out in groups of fifty, to surround the camp. When we reached the camp, they were all eating a fleshy meat; human.


Then, Sherlock’s group, including the Captain, rushed into the camp, swords unsheathed and muskets at the ready. The natives all sat silent and calm, but shaking. Sherlock asked a native where their chief was. The native responded, by pointing to an unnoticeable hut, hidden by the trees. The chief, knowing he had no choice, walked out of the hut, slowly and firmly. A tall and skinny man, hair tied in all sorts of knots with a stern look of wisdom. He had a leather necklace, on which he supposedly kept this Key of Life. ‘You’re in possession of a very valuable item, an item that we’re seeking,’ said the Captain. ‘Hand it over, or blood shall be spewed on the trees.’ The chief looked agitated, but remain calm. ‘My name is De’Raa,’ said the chief, surprising us all with his knowledge of English. ‘I am the chief of these people, the Toratha, as known as in your world. I would’- he cut off, noticing the native army coming back from hunt, out of the corner of his eye. He made a sudden run for it, and made a narrow escape and disappeared into the trees. Then, a fierce battle sparked to life between us and the natives. Luckily, I survived death, for I was assigned for the search of De’Raa.

Our search was cut short, De’Raa knew he had no chance, so he led himself straight to capture. We cornered him at the edge of a cliff, which led to a jagged, rocky outcrop. He had no choice but to give us the key. But as he was about to hand over the key, a sudden grin appeared on his face, and he turned around and made a dive across the face of the cliff. Time stood still for a moment. All that was heard throughout the island the rest of the day was the scream


of the Captain’s misery. The key remained untouched on De’Raa’s chest for eternity.

It was a dark stormy night. Two girls were having a sleepover i one of the girls castles. The girl who owned the castle’s name was Sadhbh. Her best friend’s name is Katelyn.Sadhbh is wearing a


dress which is blue with purple hearts on it. Katelyn is wearing a purple dress with the word evil on it. The two girls are fifteen years old. Sadhbh’s mother’s name is Grainne. Queen Grainne’s dress is plain black.She loves animals of all kinds, well except spiders and snakes. And this is where the story begins…

It was a dark stormy night.

Katelyn and I were having a sleepover we were planning to stay up all night when we heard a knock at the door, it was my mother holding something in her arms.

‘’Oh hello girls, do you have enough sweets?” said Queen Grainne.

“Yes mother” said Sadhbh.

“Can you go please? Katelyn and I just want to be by ourselves” said Sadhbh.

‘”Yes miss I would, so me and Sadhbh can be by ourselves “said Katelyn.

‘’Oh ok but I warn you, you might not be so happy in a few hours” [WHEN I KILL YOU]

‘’Sorry what was that?!!”

‘’Oh nothing!!”Replied Queen Grainne.

‘’Mum can you please go?” said Sadhbh.

‘’Ok I’m going I’m going” replied Queen Grainne.


‘’Thank you, goodbye” said Sadhbh.

[THERE WAS ALOUD SLAM OF THE DOOR]

[Midnight comes and Queen Grainne seems unhappy and sad]

‘’So girls which one of you would like to die first?”

‘’WHAT???” they said together.

‘’You can’t kill us mother I’m your daughter!!!

‘’And I’m your mother! You should not be blocking me from your life.”

She raises the knife and kills Sadhbh.

She raises it again and kills Katelyn.

Morning comes and Sadhbh realises that it was all just a nightmare “PHEW” said Sadhbh.

Mystery Murder by Luka Malesevic

Detective Smilie was woken by a venomous bang.


He sprinted to the stern of the ship “There has been a murder” he exclaimed. He was shaking in his boots.

As he was examining the body he noticed that the victim’s hair had been cut off “what a mess!” said Smilie. He ran to one of the crewmembers’ cabin “open up, open up” screamed Smile.

The cabin door slowly opened and a tall man emerged from the darkness “can I help you” said the man. “There has been a murder,” said Smilie. The man slammed the door in his face.

Deceive Smilie took out his sword and then kicked the door down, the man was cornered. “Wait, wait don’t hurt me, I can help you” said the frightened man. “How could you possibly help me?” asked Detective Smilie. “Well, around the time of the murder I was taking a stroll around the ship, and I noticed George, the American tourist, talking with the victim around the stern of the ship”. “Thank you. You have been a great help” said Smilie.

Detective Smilie quickly ran to George’s cabin, and he kicked the door down. He found George making himself a wig with the victim’s hair. “George you’re going away for a long time” shouted Smilie. George was trembling with fear.

Later that day George was arrested and taken to prison to await his trial.

It was a dark, stormy night. Six servants ran down the pathtowards the castle."Must not be late for the king" they murmured, one after theother.Something, however, was watching them from inside the woodssurrounding the castle.The six servants ran to the main doors and banged on them.The doors opened and the king let them in. The last servantclosed the doors behind him with a bang, and hurried after them.He did not lock them, however. He was in too much of a hurrynot to be left behind. The thing that was watching them came outof the woods. Its name was Stoik the troll. He wanted revenge on


the king for destroying the bog which he came from and lived in.He now lived in the woods.However, this unlocked doors thing was an opportunity to getback at the king. Stoik may have been a brainless, ugly, stupid,slimy monster, but he was huge and EXTREMELY strong. Hewalked slowly towards the giant, eerie castle. He walked up tothe doors. When they were locked, nothing from the outsidecould open them but when they weren't ...Stoik bashed open the doors with his giant club. Bits of woodflew everywhere."Stoik need snack” he roared.“Back beast!” shouted one of the guards.“Oho” grunted Stoik, “you look tasty”.The king crept down to the dungeons, hoping to get to the secretpassage. He heard behind him a CRUNCH and Stoik saying“Crunchy and sweet.Stoik like. Bah! Salty. What have you beeneating, little man?”.The king then heard a swallowing sound. ‘I hope he does’nt lookdown here’ he thought. The servants followed him down.Suddenly, he heard Stoiks voice again,“You try and hide from Stoik. Come back here or Stoik come getyou, scaredy man.”The king heard huge BOOMING footsteps coming down into thedungeons.“Dont worry sir, we’ll stop him” said the servants, hurrying upthe stairs.“There you are,” growled Stoik.“Stop in the name of the k...” they began. But then: CHOMP!


MUNCH! GULP! “YUMMY”.“They only make light snack for Stoik.”Then a big warty foot emerged followed by a hand and then therest of Stoik. His large and small eye turned slowly towards theking.“Oho, me thinks this is king’s last few moments,” said Stoik.“Thats what you think” said the king. “Ready your weapon,ogre” he ordered, drawing his sword.“Ogre?saidStoik. “Ogre?Metroll!”Then he held out a club twice the size of the king. The king didnot back down. He ran at Stoik with his sword raised. Stoikplucked the kings sword from his hand and used it as atoothpick.“Bit of little man get stuck between there,” grunted Stoik.Then he tossed the sword away, took the crown off the kingshead, raised his club and brought it crashing down upon theking. When he had finished, the king was as flat as a pancake.Then Stoik took the kings crown and put it around his babyfinger. He walked up the stairs, leading him out of the dungeon,up another few flights of stairs (pausing for breath now andagain, of course) and all the way up to the the battlements.He passed a rather small door on the way. Inside that door was aroom, and inside that room was a sleeping wizard. His name wasGordon the Green. He was called ‘the Green’ because his robeswere bright green. He was two hundred and sixty three years oldbut he had put a spell on himself so that he felt like he wasseventy again (wizards consider that very young). His shelveswere full of his magical potions and books. He had a tapestry


above his fire place of a knight fighting a dragon, and the roomwas lit by the fire burning in the fire place. His trusty servantwas a blue skinned, hunchbacked Igor, called Derek.“Mashter,” mumbled Derek, shaking Gordon to wake him up,“I’ve got shome good news and shome bad news.”“What is it Derek?” asked Gordon, taking a big drink of water.“The bad news is there’s a troll, shtompin’ up the shtairs to thethebattlementsh. I jusht heard him heading up a moment ago.”Gordon spat out the water.“WHAT?!!” he shouted. “Then what would the good news be?!”“I learned how ta butte’ bread.Awe’ntyapwoud o’ me?.”The wizard answered by throwing the plate with the bread on itat Derek and then hurried out the door.“Awe’ntyahungwy, mashter?” cried Derek, rubbing his headand putting the bread back on the plate. Gordon hobbled off upthe winding stone stairs towards the battlements. He came to alarge wooden staircase. Stoik was standing at the top of thisstaircase. Gordon could hear him breathing. Derek was huffingand puffing his way up, far behind. (He had stopped for a‘breather’ at least five times.) He was holding the plate with thebread on it in his left hand and the water in his right hand. Hewas quite a sight: blue skin, bald, yellow eyes, and had a wierdway of running that made him look like he was limping.“Wait for me, mashter,” he called.Gordon had made it up the stairs. The door leading out to thebattlements had been knocked off its hinges. Stoik was lookingout from the castle wall, muttering to himself. His back wasturned to Gordon.


“You forgot about someone, troll,” cried Gordon.“Well, at least someone got Stoik name right,” muttered Stoik.He turned around.“Oh no,” roared Stoik, “Me no share castle with wizard.”“You’re bigger than I thought,” said Gordon, “still, I will not letyou kill the king.”“I already did,” said Stoik, grinning.“Well, uh, you will not take over this castle.”Then Gordon pointed his staff at Stoik.“What you do with stick, pointy hatty green man?” said Stoik,sounding, for the first time, a bit worried.Then a bolt of red shot from Gordons staff and hit Stoik in thechest. He fell backwards off the edge of the battlements. Therewas a deafening CRASH of Stoik landing on the ground.“Well he’s dead,” said Gordon, leaning over the wall to see if hewas still alive.“How could he survive tha...,” began Gordon, but he lost hisfooting and fell over the edge as well.His staff slipped from his hand and he crashed into the groundbesideStoik. Meanwhile, up at the battlements, Derek had justarrived. He had dropped his glass on the way up and was nowclutching his side.“Mashter, where have ya gone. Oh well” he called and walkedback down the stairs, eating the bread he had brought.He was not looking where he was going, however, and slippedon one of the water covered steps (remember, he spilled the glassof water, accidentally, and some steps got covered in water). Hefell down to the very bottom, hitting every one of them on the


way. When he got to the bottom, he twitched a few times andthen he was no more.However, Stoik was not dead. “My castle now,” he said, andwalked back through the shattered remains of the castle doorinto his new home. “Me hungry. Where kitchen and where bed.Me tired.”

AND SO, STOIK LIVED IN THE CASTLE FOR MANY YEARS.ANDGORDON, WHO TURNED OUT NOT TO BE DEAD, MANAGED TOCOPE WITH STOIK BUT SPENT MOST OF HIS TIME IN HISROOM.WHAT WAS HARD TO COPE WITH WAS WHEN STOIK’STROLL PALS CAME ALONG. GORDON EVEN GOT A NEW IGOR ANDNAMED HIM PAT.

Detectives Pierce and Allen were asleep in bed at Leap Castle on a visit to to their friend, the owner. His name was Sir Richard Theophilus Theobald, a famous multi-millionaire.They woke with a jump as a scream rang out through the night. They began dressing them-selves hurriedly.'Allen!' said Detective Pierce.' Let’s split up and search the castle with our flash-lights.We'll keep in contact with our walkie-talkies. Keep your gun at the ready'.Detective Pierce set off with his gun in one hand, flash-light in the other.He walked quickly down the corridor, towards the office.

Mean-while, Detective Allen was searching the dining-room.


His walkie-talkie buzzed. ' Allen' , said Detective Pierce. 'Nothing in the office'.'Nothing in the dining-room either', replied Detective Allen.' I'll try the kitchen'.'Pierce!' shouted Detective Allen. 'Get in here now!'Detective Pierce came running in. ' Allen! What is it!''On the floor', replied Detective Allen.Lying on the floor was Sir Richard Theophilus Theobald, with a dark red stain spreading on his shirt.'He was stabbed in the back with this knife', said Detective Allen, holding the knife up to the light.'Let’s take another look around the castle', said Detective Pierce.As they stepped out of the room, an arrow sank into the wall above their heads.Pierce reached up and pulled it down. It had a message taped to it saying 'try the lounge'.'Let’s go', said Detective Allen.'Wait! It may be a trap', said Detective Pierce, holding him back.'Let’s look through the lounge window outside,' said Pierce.They went outside.

As they walked, Allen began to notice crunching footsteps in the gravel, a little way back.'Pierce,' he said in a low voice.'I think we're being watched.'

No one was in the lounge.


'Allen,' said Pierce. 'I think we're going to need a trap to catch this murderer.'

Allen was in the bed, pretending to be asleep, a dummy in the other bed, with Pierce hiding behind the door.

The door quietly opened and a small man slipped inside.He levelled his gun at the dummy in Pierce's bed. 'Sir', said Pierce coming out from behind the door. 'You are under arrest.'The murderer turned like lightning, pointing the gun at Pierce.Quick as a flash, Allen drew his gun and shot the gun out of his hand.'Good shot, Allen,' said Pierce.'And now, I think it's time to put our friend here behind bars for a couple of years.'

The Day Dreaming Idiotby Johnny McMahon

It was a refreshingly cold day at Caisleán na Circe in Galway, where the water surrounding the castle was as still as glass. The early morning pinkness was still in the sky when Dónal O’Flaherty woke from a long sleep.

He walked to the window and gazed out at the reflection of the rising sun on the surface of the icy cold water. He sleepily walked down the spiral staircase to find that his maid was not there to bid him good morning.

Dónal searched his castle for the maid. It was not until he looked out to the garden that he found her. She was beside a basket of vegetables, crumpled up in a heap with deep red blood all over her


clothes. Dónal realised that she was shot by an arrow, as there was a bloody arrow stuck into her chest.

Although Dónal thought he was the bravest around, in reality, he was as fearful as a bird!

He went back inside the castle and ran back up the spiral staircase to his bedroom. Lying there in his bed asleep was the very beautiful Grace O’Malley, Dónal’s wife and love of his life. Though he just wanted to stand there and watch her forever, he had to wake her to tell about the event that would be taking place later that day.

He nudged her hard in the side and she woke with a soft grunt.

“What’s the matter?” she mumbled sleepily. “It’s really early...”

“Get up”, Dónal said very seriously. “I need to tell you something. It’s urgent.”

She got out of bed and dressed slowly. When she had finished, Dónal started to talk again.

“This morning”, he said quietly. “I saw our maid outside on the grass. She was hit by an arrow. She’s dead.”

“Oh no!” she said, suddenly becoming awake. “Who do you think did it? And why?”

“This is the thing. It was the Joyce family. They must’ve thought it was you or me.”

“What do you think that means?” Grace said worryingly.

“It means...” he looked as if he was about to burst in to tears. “It means that they’re coming.”


Grace looked so scared that she too was about to start crying.

The Joyce family were the O’Flaherty’s rival family. They always hated each other, for no reason whatsoever.

Without another word, they both made their way to the cloak room to collect their bows and arrows. Then they quickly climbed up the stairs to the top tower. The tower was a cold room with dusty stone walls and the room was bare other than a rug on the ground and three thin windows to shoot out of.

They got there just in time. The Joyces were travelling on rafts with one archer on each one. They were already halfway across the water by the time Dónal and Grace got there.

Bows and arrows ready, they started to shoot. The Joyce’s archers were good, but not good enough. Dónal and Grace made an amazing team. Most of their shots were very close, only one or two of them were off target.

But suddenly, there was a cry of pain. Dónal spun around to find Grace kneeling on the ground, clutching her bleeding arm writhing in pain.

“NNOOOOO!!” cried Dónal, leaping towards her. There were still arrows speeding past their heads. He wanted to hold her in his arms forever, but she was losing lots of blood. He wanted one last moment with her...one last kiss.... He was going in to kiss her.... and—

“WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING YOU CRAZY CHILD?!?” said a high, shrill voice that Dónal knew.


“Where am I? Where’s the castle and Grace O’Malley and the arrows flying through the air?”

“My god boy you just tried to kiss me! Don’t you remember?!” said the voice again. Dónal recognised this voice as Ms. O’Toole, his teacher from school. But, it wasn’t Dónal at all. His name was Jamie. Jamie O’Flaherty.

“I tried to kiss you? I don’t think so. I was trying to kiss Grace O’Malley!”

“For heaven’s sake! What are you on about?” she said. “One second you were just staring out the window, next you just sort of leapt on to me and tried to kiss me!”

It was coming clear to him now. He was day dreaming the whole thing.

“Day dreaming idiot....” mumbled Ms. O’Toole.

Though he was angry about she just said, he agreed. He was, a day dreaming IDIOT.

King Padraig’s Adventure by ÁindleO’Beirn


It was a quiet evening, not a single sound could be heard through the whole castle.Well, one noise could be heard, a very loud noise actually. The noise was coming from the dining hall, it was King Padraig’s laughter.

King Padraig was sitting at his round table eating roast duck, chicken and wild boar. He was also laughing, for one of his many jesters’ had told him a very funny joke. You see, King Padraig loved to laugh. But, just because the man liked to laugh doesn’t mean he is not strong or a great warrior. Infact, King Padraig was the greatest warrior in the whole of the land, as you will find out later. But enough about Padraig for now for this next part is the part everybody loves… The start of the adventure…


There was a knock on the door of the dining room. In rushed a man who said “Sire, the enemy is attacking”.“Which enemy?” grumbled Padraig “we have so many”.“A dark wizard and an army of skeletons” said the man.“How big is the army?” asked Padraig.“Come see for yourself” said the man.And that is exactly what they did.

He walked out to the battlements. He stared out at a sea of white, black and red. It was the strangest sight he had ever seen, hundreds of skeletons staring at him, equipped with swords, shields and wearing armour.“King Padraig” said a knight.“All of the knights are ready for an attack”.“Very good” said Padraig.“This is the plan”.He was about to explain the plan when they heard a yell.“Attack”.Suddenly all the skeletons came charging at the castle. They broke down the main gate and were in the castle.They killed half the knights in the first few minutes.“To the roof” yelled Padraig.And so, they went straight to the top of the castle“What now” said a knight?“Let me think,” said Padraig “I have an idea”.But it was too late, the door to the roof burst open.


And from the spot where the door used to be was an old man,wearing a hat and a long cloak and holding a staff. This was no ordinary old man but a dark wizard.

The wizard spoke in a shrill cackle.“Padraig O’Flatherty” said the wizard“I have come to kill you and take your castle”“Oh great wizard I do not even know your name” said Padraig“My name” said the wizard, “my name is,” he said in a deep strong sounding voice“is Wendy Buttermilk. But I have told you too much, prepare to die”.With a flash of red, the wizard shot out a spark of red that hurtled straight towards Padraig. “Human shield” yelled Padraig grabbing a nearby knightThe spell hit the knight, vaporising him, bounced off and hit the evil wizard straight in the nose, knocking him off the castle and killing him.

Suddenly all the skeletons disappeared in a puff of smoke.The battle was won, the evil wizard dead, and best of all Padraig got to finish his dinner and hear the jester’s joke.

Joe’s Travels by Nathan O’Loughlin

Joe woke up with a very loud bang. He quickly ran to his window. There was nobody there. ‘’Something probably fell’’ Joe said in his Irish accent.

Joe was born without his right arm. He had very pale skin and a very big, dark afro. He had a uni-brow and millions of tiny little freckles. He had so many freckles from a distance he looked tan!

He lived on the banks of the Amazon River. His front garden the Amazon River.His back garden the biggest rainforest in the world.

On his way to work he would have to walk to the dock and take a ride with one of his employees (who could afford a boat)

One day that employee called Joe saying that he was sick. That day he took a ride with someone else who was going the same way.


He should have realised as soon as he saw them that they were PIRATES. Joe still not knowing they were pirates Joe thought they were just some nice people that were giving him a ride.

All of a sudden they started jumping in the water. One of them pulled Joe in with them. They started splashing and pretending that they were drowning. Just then Joe realised sailing towards them. a little while later the boat stop and started throwing in some ring buoys in the water.

When all of the pirates were safe and on the ship, one of the pirates pulled out a gun out of their pocket. Without thinking before they jumped in the water, they forgot about their guns and of course their guns got wet. Then they realised that their guns wouldn’t work so they jumped back in the water and started swimming back to their boat. They were so angry they decided to take Joe hostage. They made him scrub the deck and clean their guns. After a while Joe got bored and started going crazy. When he calmed down a bit, two of the biggest guys that Joe had ever seen came and took him to the captain’s cabin. When Joe walked in all he could see was a bed, a map of the river, a cluttered desk, an office chair that turned around and some Thomas the Tank Engine toys. All of a sudden, the office chair started moving slowly around. All he could see was the silhouette of a small arm stroking what looked like a soccer ball. The captain said in a very squeaky voice “Jack! The lights” the light flickered on. Joe realised that a child was sitting in front of him stroking a fish bowl. “and you are?’’ Joe asked “Captain Mussie, age six’’ he said proudly “descended from King Mustachio the Nut’’. Captain Mussie was wearing the latest Brazilian soccer team jersey and huge shoulder pads. He had blue eyes and black hair. Joe, for some reason, didn’t


realise Captain Mussie’s had a giant moustache, it looked like he had four very furry caterpillars walking on his face. Joe asked Captain Mussie if he was allowed off the boat. Finally, the Captain said “fine but on one condish my homee, you buy me the new hip Thomas the Tank Engine toy brov’’. Joe agreed and gave him the money. “now will you let me go?’’ asked Joe “OK my sound buzzer from another mother’’. The boat sailed back to the dock and let him off “see ya later alligator’’ said captain Mussie. “oh before you leave, I really like that new weird “al’’ Yankovic album and I’d be so happy if I got it” “OK” said Joe, “here’s ten dollars’’.”Thanks” said captain Mussie. Although Joe had been kidnapped and was down fifty dollars he made a new friend.

1000,000,000 (Billion) years into the future, the earth will become inhabitable for humans.

The sun will expand and get hotter as it approaches its end.

The human race’s only chance for survival will be to get to another planet. By this time , Mars could become habitable as the Goldylocks Zone could shift further to this destination, but supplies could not last for long......

The M.S.E starship( Metaflex Solar Enterprise) was exploring a new sector in the Libra constellation.

“Captain Radium, the gimble is locked” said Crypto. “Excellent” said Radium. “computer scan the stability control”.

”stability at 100%” said the computer.


BANG!

“ what was that?”

“computer scan the M.S.E starship damage shields” said Radium.

“Damage shields offline”

“Captain I believe we’re being attacked by space Pirates” said Crypto.

The monitor was giving out strange signals supposedly in the archeopteryxian language.

“Give the signal records to Professor Calculus for translation” said Captain Radium.

“Allow the M.S.E starship to remain neutral”.

“charge ion cannons for recognition”.

“Captain , Professor Calculus translated the signals, the space Pirates are attemting to steal all of our resources, if we dont respond they will kill all of our crew”.

“We must survive, hundreds of lives are depending on us”.

“Well fire the ion cannons, attempting to try is our only option.”

“Captain the attempt was a failure, the space Pirates had an advanced defence shield that was superior to our standard ion cannons” said Crypto.

“we must get to the escape pod” said Radium, “We tried to save everybody, but now we can only save ourselves”.


“Crypto get Professor Calculus, we will need him for the evacuation.”

“Computer” said Radium, “what is the closest exoplanet?”

“Gliza 581g,20.3 light years away in the Libra constellation

“Captain, I’ve got Professor Calculus”

Quickly,we need to run to the escape pod before the spaceship explodes” said Radium.

“RUN!”

“Explosion to the left!”

“Flaming proton engines!”

“JUMP!electric circuits!”

Malfunctioning co2 Carbon compressors!

“Great, we got to the escape pod”.

“Well get in and close the hatch” said Radium.

“Set the co-ordinates Gliza 581g”.

“Prepair for launch in 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 Blast Off”.

“Evacuation complete” said the computer.

“Now send an S.O.S signal to N.A.S.A” said Radium.

“Yes” said Crypto.

“But captain, I was just wondering even if we do get to Gliza 581 g will we have enough extra fuel to get to mars?”


“Probably not but my theory was that we could find a compatible fuel source on the planet” said captain radium.

“Beginning S.O.S transmission” said crypto.

“Hello, this is an S.O.S transmission from the M.S.E starship escape pod, we were attacked by space pirates, only three survivors, pending response”.

“Transmission over”.

“Professor calculus, are you knowledgeable of Gliza 581g?” asked captain Radium.

“Well I know Gliza 581g was discovered approximately 1 billion years ago in September 2010”.

“Even though it has never been explored, it was speculated that it could be a possible habitable planet.”

“But if it is a possible habitable planet, do you think we could find the necessary elements for fuel?”

“I think the chances are reasonably high” said calculus.

“I think that’s great” said crypto.

“But we don’t know yet, so multiple options are important said radium”.

“N.A.S.A is our only other option but help from such a long distance is difficult” said crypto.

“How is the oxygen tank?” Said Captain Radium.

“Oxygen tank level at 12.5%” said Crypto.


“Activate co2 carbon compressors, we could use the oxygen for recycling and the carbon waste product for fuel.”

“Carbon compressors activated” said Crypto.

“Captain, I think we are getting a signal from N.A.S.A”.

“Accept the radio signal”

“exactly” said Crypto.

“Hello this is N.A.S.A we got your s.o.s signal we have studied the situation and have figured we are currently unable to help you in your location, we apologise for any inconvenience.”

“That wasn’t fortunate” said Captain Radium.

“I think we will just need to get to the planet.”

“I estimate we are travelling at approximately 1lph” said professor calculus.

“Well the dark matter protection layer is still functioning, so it is quite safe to go faster than the speed of light” said crypto.

“We should be entering the Gliza 581 solar system in a few minutes” said captain radium.

“Activate the gravity sensors”.

“Gravity sensors activated” said crypto.

“Entering solar system”.

“Gliza 581 g is visible from the window” said professor calculus.

“Remember Gliza 581 g is the 7th planet from the sun” said crypto.


“Exactly” said Captain Radium.

“Look everybody, the planet has got an extremely similar geographic design to earth when it was habitable millions of years ago” said crypto.

“That is an extraordinary discovery” said professor calculus.

“Well done crypto”.

“i think we are about to enter the atmosphere professor”said crypto.

“indeed”said professor calculus.

“Entering atmosphere in 3,2,1”said the computer.

“everybody, get organised!” said captain radium.

“Engage seatbelts”.

“g-force increasing” said the computer.

“I think we are about to hit the surface” said crypto.

HE STARTES TO SPEAK " I AM A WIZARD I AM MAGIC AND STRONG

THEN GRAINE SAID "YOU'RE NO STRONGER THAN ME" THEN THE


WIZARD SAID "ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT?" THEN GRAINE SAID "COME INTO MY CASTLE IT IS SAFE IN HERE BUT IT ACTUALLY WASN'T.

THEN THE WIZARD SAID "MY NAME IS MR MAGIC AND SHE SAID MY NAME NAME IS GRAINE THEN SHE SAID "GET OUT OF MY CASTLE" AND THE WIZARD SAID "NO"! THEN SHE SAID "LETS GO TO THE TOP OF THE CASTLE. THEN THEY WENT THEN GARAINE PUSHED MR MAGIC OFF THEN HE DIED AND GRAINE WAS HAPPY.

What happened at Faber Castle by AurynPurtill83 6th Class, 2011, Galway Educate Together National School

Hello my name is Detective Helix.

Me and my two friends Dr Oxford and Bellatrix Whistle heard about a haunted Castle called Faber Castle. We decided to go take a look.This is my story of what happened.

We arrived at the Castle it was quiet, no sound at all. “This is a queer place” said Dr Oxford. We knocked at the door. It opened. “Lady’s first “ said I. She pushed me in. “This ground feel’s funny“ saidDr. Oxford.

“shhh” I interrupted, “I can hear something”. “Probably nothing” said Bellatrix. “Ok”, said I “Turn on a light”.

Dr. Oxford turned a light on. The door quickly shut. We hear a scream. “Dr you dear” Bellatrix turns on her light “Oh my god”, I said.


Dr Oxford had three beak stabs they looked like.

I hear a smash and the light goes out.

“Bellatrix you ok?” I said.

“Don’t worry Helix it’s a penguin “.

“Oh phew “. I hear a scream.

Run to door I can hear flippers behind me.

I run out and close the door behind me.

In memory of Dr Oxford and Bellatrix Whistle

This event happened in 1947.

The evil penguin is now kept in Galway zoo for insane and ill animals.

What ever happened to Eliza by Amy Sammon

Help! Daddy! Butler! “get me out of this old stinky pirates bag” Eliza screamed why, why” why those things have to happen to me why couldn’t it had happened to one of my ugly sisters - thought Eliza. “Pirate, listen I will make a deal with you to get me out of this disgusting old smelly bag and let me get back to my castle safely and I will give you my two sisters”. “Sorry princess” he said in a mocking voice. “But if we go back to your daddy, I am sure too that … umm, let’s say he will invite us to stay the night and won’t ever what us to leave” the pirate chuckled. “Hey, no talking to the prisoner” shouted the captain.


Eliza woke with a start she thought she heard someone shouting orders. It must have been her sister throwing a tantrum about one thing or another. But then she heard it again, it was a man voice, the voice she heard last night when she was kidnapped by those awful pirates. Oh no, she thought was she still with those awful pirates.

And then, as if someone would had answered her question, the annoying chubby pirate who holding her in that old bag came in. “Good morning how about some breakfast” and with that he produced a small try with barley cooked trout. “There” he said proudly. “A feast fit for a king or a princess in your case” “what! This is not a feast and it may be fit for you but certainly not for me” “And in case hadn’t already figured out”. “I am royal”. he laughed “princess, princess, princess, princess … you see this trout, it was freshly caught this morning along with one other trout, that trout we gave to the captain and this one we gave it too you so I am sure one of the other men would swap their breakfast of nothing for this trout, so either you can eat it or I will eat it for you and you can be hungry till dinner”. “Wait what ever happened to lunch” said Eliza pleadingly. “Well you see we don’t really tend to give our prisoners lunch and we only have a small lunch because it’s the best time to-“.”Just be quiet I don’t want to hear any more about your criminal life and I still don’t want the fish so you or the other men can have it” Eliza snapped.

“OK”, “Thanks” said the pirate “and anyway get out of my umm… what is this place? – A cell? …“Said Eliza.


It was the late evening before Eliza saw the chubby pirate. “Dinner miss?”Said the pirate.”Yeah sure” sighed Eliza. Eliza figured that she would be on this boat for quite awhile so her usual stubborn mood was not going to get her any where.

As Cassandra scrubbed the hard wooden kitchen floor she wondered what her life would be like if she wasn’t a maid for a wealthy, cold and heartless family. She at least wanted to be appreciated for the long hours of hard work she carried out for the family. Cassandra’s thoughts were interrupted as she heard the master’s thick boots march up the stairs “I want dinner at once” the master bellowed, “yes sir” Cassandra said, continuing with the scrubbing. “Filthy rats” the master muttered under his breath, the other maid Eleanor started making dinner at once. Cassandra’s stomach rumbled, she hadn’t had anything to eat in more than a day and she wouldn’t dare ask the master or his well-fed, spoiled family. The master’s daughter Victoria, whom Cassandra despised most of all, was a spoiled brat. Victoria constantly ordered Cassandra around without a please or a thank you, and often told Cassandra she was dirty scum and would not let her in her room unless to clean. Victoria often made Cassandra stand at the bedroom door for hours and end thinking of different ways to torture Cassandra.

Cassandra finished the cleaning and got up, her stick thin legs numb from kneeling, and commenced with making the dinner. A basket of big red apples lay on the kitchen shelf, Cassandra resisted her hunger but it was no use, her hand had already taken several apples and stuffed them inside her apron. Cassandra’s breathing began to speed up rapidly, she wondered if anyone had seen her commit her terrible crime. Cassandra began to worry as she had heard stories of what happened to servants and maids when they stole food such as whippings, beatings and even sometimes locking


up in the cellar. Cassandra had cast the crime upon the master himself but she thought it was his fault as he mistreated his maids and servants. Eleanor was peeling potatoes at the other end of the room; her back faced Cassandra, even if Eleanor had seen she wouldn’t have said a word. Cassandra left the vegetables to boil and rushed up two flights of stairs to her room in the attic. She locked the door with a shaking hand and then unravelled the apples from her apron. She took a bite out of one of the apples, then another, before she knew it she had eaten two whole apples. She placed an apple of Eleanor’s bed and then walked out of the room.

On her way down she saw the master kneeling on the floor. Cassandra hid behind the wall and watched as the master looked around suspiciously, and then began, one by one, to take up the floorboards. Under the floor lay money, notes stacked on top of each other, and little bags that contained gold coins. Cassandra stood there not believing her eyes, she knew his hiding place. The master took two notes from a stack and put the floorboards back. Cassandra was stunned still hiding behind the wall. As soon as she saw the coast was clear she knelt onto the floor and took up the floorboards. Cassandra had never seen as much money in her life. She grabbed two bags of coins and three notes and stuffed them in her apron then ran upstairs. She thought to herself “what have I done? The master’s bound to notice the missing money” she thought “maybe if I act normal he won’t suspect anything” that was one of the hundreds of concerns that rushed through Cassandra’s head at that moment.


Cassandra went to her room and packed her few belongings; she did this in case of a sudden emergency. She went back into the kitchen recommenced with her work. The master’s daughter, Victoria came into the kitchen wearing a smile from ear to ear. She was looking straight at Cassandra, Cassandra froze – Victoria knew. Victoria walked gracefully over to Cassandra “why, what on earth is the matter” she asked smugly. “Why nothing Miss” Cassandra replied as calmly as possible. “Oh well, you seem awfully nervous, is anything bothering you?” “I hope not” she continued “ it would get in the way of your work” Cassandra nodded. Victoria left the room and Cassandra ran upstairs, collected her belongings and wrapped her shawl around tightly around herself. She then crept down the stairs careful to not catch anyone’s attention. Cassandra suddenly heard footsteps and her heart stopped!! She stood frozen, unable to move. Up from the stairs came the master’s angry face “you stole from me” he shouted furiously. Cassandra thought for a moment then ran straight past him. The master stood shocked but it wasn’t long till he was running after her.

Cassandra ran to the kitchen, he followed and stood in front of Cassandra fist at the ready, but before he could take a swing Cassandra lifted up the boiling pot of soup from the fire and threw it straight at his face. He collapsed on the floor, hands on his face, screaming at the top of his voice. Cassandra ran from the damp, cold kitchen and headed for the main entrance but decided this was to obvious and headed for the exit through the cellar but he beat


her to it. He stood in front of the stairway to the cellar, his face red from the boiling water. He had something in his hand but she couldn’t quite make out what it was. As she looked closer she realised it was a knife, she couldn’t do anything else, she was trapped. “No, I can’t give up this easy” she thought. As he lunged towards her she pushed with all her remaining strength and he tumbled down the hard stone steps. Once he had reached the bottom, blood trickled down his forehead. He lay limp at the end of the stairs, unconscious. Cassandra walked over the unconscious man towards the exit she then opened the door then ran for her life. She took one last look at the castle she had served in for so long and promised herself she would never come back.

Cassandra sprinted as fast as she could through the cold, dense forest. She found a clearing in the forest and decided to take a rest on an old oak tree. The tranquillity of the forest relaxed her mind and she found herself dozing off, she hoped this hadn’t been a dream and she had done what she believed she had done and escaped from the life she had never wished for. She hoped now that she would finally be free.
