The Slate Belt Heritage Center, located at 30 North First Street, Bangor, PA (in the historic Olde’ Town Hall) is celebrating its’ 13th anniversary of incorporation, and will The Slate Belt YMCA is starting the 2011 fund- raiser year off with a delicious spaghetti dinner and show. Roseto native, Tommy Zito is hitting the stage at the Bangor Elks Lodge on April 17th, from 4pm until 7:30pm, to help raise funds for the Slate Belt YMCA. Tommy is the son of Domenick Zito of Roseto and Betty Tarole of Bethlehem. Mr. Zito has a wide variety of experiences in the entertainment indus- try. He has shared the stage with The Allman Broth- ers, Hall and Oats, Bruce Springsteen and more. As a vocalist and keyboardist, Tommy enjoys entertaining locally. He has performed at Resorts Casino in Atlan- tic City as Merv Griffin’s accompanist and has also played more recently at The Sands Casino in Bethle- hem. The cost of the dinner and show is $25 a person. Dinner will be served at 4pm with the show to follow. The doors will open at 3pm and a cash bar will be available. Tickets can be ordered at the Slate Belt Cham- ber of Commerce, 610- 588-1000 or through Rich Grucela at 610- 252-0056. Tickets will be sold until April 11th, and will not be sold at the door. The Heritage Center is a non-profit corporation whose mission is: “To establish and offer for public view and educa- tional purposes; artifacts, displays, videos, genealogy tracts, and research information that reflect the local Slate Belt history and heritage. Also, to perpetuate the Slate Belt heritage, ethnic contributions, industry and history so that future generation’s may learn and appreci- ate the valued past. Lastly, to preserve and utilize the historic Olde’ Town Hall as the corpo- rate center, meeting place and educational museum display.” The Center contains two floors of self- guided exhibits, artifacts, orientation videos and data collec- tion information avail- able in the Homefront, Flicksville, Italian, Cornish, Welsh, Slate, Textile, Fire and Cham- ber Rooms. This “vision for poster- ity” has been made possible through the countless hours of in- kind volunteer work and over thousands of dollars have been expended by the Slate Belt Heritage Center Corporation for interior and exterior renovations and improvements. The Center services the following communities: Bangor, Pen Argyl, Roseto, Wind Gap, Portland, East Bangor, and the Townships of Upper and Lower Mt. Bethel, Washington, and Plainfield. Many civic groups, class reunions, colle- giate and high school academic classes, scout troops, and general viewing public have availed themselves of the Center’s resources with all visits being provided free of charge.
