THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD FEBRUARY 2, 2020
THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD
Today we take a short break from the
Sundays of Ordinary Time and celebrate
the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.
In faithful observance of the law of Mo-
ses, Mary and Joseph present Jesus in
the Temple, dedicating him to God, as
was traditional for first born sons. After
the ceremony was complete, his parents
took Jesus home to a family life where
he grew up strong and wise, and the
grace of God was upon him.

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS
Healing Our Blindness
The value of stewardship living is difficult to see unless we are experiencing that way of life for ourselves. You can read 100 Eve-ryday Stewardship reflections and go to church every Sunday, but unless you are actively growing in faith and trying to live a life of generous stewardship, you cannot see the power of such a life-style. Like most things, we need direct, purposeful experiences to
really understand.
I worked in a stewardship parish for over 20 years, but it was only after I started treating all I have as God’s, and began to actively offer all I am to Him for His glory, that I really got the message. That doesn’t mean I am a perfect steward. Far from it! However, the stress and anxiety that comes with life has greatly diminished because all is in God’s hands. I choose to act more generously than before, which provides me with a sense of fulfillment and joy. How I act towards my family, friends, and even people I meet daily has changed. Now I am more mindful of their presence, and I seek to give them a part of me that just might change their day and bring them a little closer to Christ. I am transforming into a disciple who seeks to use all I have been given to transform all
that is around me.
It would be a shame to be blind to the important things for an en-tire life. Today, consider taking a path of life-changing steward-ship. Give it all to God. In the midst of all you have been given, you just might find God in a profound way. You may even find the
real person God created you to be.

ENVELOPES & TAXES: It is that time of year when
tax returns have to be filed. As you may know, you
can claim your church offertory contributions as a tax
deductible donation, as long as we have a record of
your contributions (i.e. if you use envelopes). This is a
good time of year to encourage those who do not use envelopes to think
about using them. Contribution statements are available by calling the
parish office. St. John’s (315-845-8017) Sts. Anthony & Joseph (315-866-

FLU SEASON
With another flu season upon us, the question arises again about what to
do during the sign of peace and at Communion. Some parishes stop
giving the Precious Blood during this time. Others discourage contact
during the sign of peace. At Sts. Anthony and Joseph and St. John the
Baptist we ask people to simply use common sense. If you are not feel-
ing well you should refrain from drinking from the cup. If you are con-
cerned about catching other people’s germs during the sign of peace you
can acknowledge others with a wave or some other method of recogni-
tion. And during this time all Eucharistic Ministers are encouraged to use
hand sanitizer prior to distributing Communion.
PASTORAL PLANNING
The Pastoral Planning meeting scheduled for January
16 had to be cancelled because of the weather. It has
been rescheduled to Tuesday, February 4, at 6:30 at
Blessed Sacrament. All parish leaders and trustees are
strongly encouraged to attend. A summary of the
meeting will be published in the parish bulletins short-
ly after the meeting.
Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church
To accommodate the waxing of the Church’s
floor, pews are being moved. The pews will
have the kneelers removed and placed on
top of the pews. Please do not sit in these pews. The floor wax-
ing should be done soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Please remember our parish in your will and estate planning

REFLECT AND RESPOND TO SCRIPTURE
First Reading
Four hundred years before the birth of Christ, the prophet Malachi spoke of “the messenger of the covenant” who would be sent to refine and purify the Jewish community.
How would you assess the current state of your own faith community in terms of its refinement and purity?
Second Reading
The author of Hebrews writes that Jesus was like us “in every way,” even being tested, suffering, and dying. In what ways are you most tested in your life?
Gospel Reading
Mary and Joseph receive further revelations about the infant Jesus during the Jewish presentation rite in the Jerusalem Temple. How do you imagine they supported each other with these revelations about Jesus?
