O P E R A T I O N & M A I N T E N A N C E

WEEKLY/MONTHLY - The matting should be carefully rolled back, section by section, and the base of the matwell thoroughly swept/vacuumed. Any debris caught in between the channels of matting should be removed and then the matting rolled back into position. Take care not to drag the matting – it is designed to simply roll up and unroll again. Dragging the matting could cause damage. Closed construction, non-rollable matting should follow the Daily Routine, but in addition wiping aluminium channels with a mild detergent to help free any soiling. .19

PERIODICALLY - The Matting can be carefully removed from the matwell and sprayed with a high pressure water machine. Use of strong cleaning chemicals should be avoided.

DAILY - Normal daily soiling must be removed with a vacuum cleaner. A vacuum cleaner with rotating brush will give the best results, helping to release dirt.

A regular and thorough maintenance programme for your Entrance Matting is essential to ensure optimal performance. INTRAmatting products are designed to catch and hold dirt particles, and allowing build-up for long periods of time can restrict pile movement and lead to ‘tracking’ as the matting is continually trafficked.

HOW TO REMOVE DRY SOIL - Vacuum using an upright vacuum with a mechanically driven rotating brush. Make several passes in both directions along the rib of the matting with the vacuum cleaner to ensure all loose dirt is removed. Vacuum action should be fast forward and slow backward. Spot clean if necessary.

HOW TO REMOVE WET SOIL - Use a counter rotating brush head machine in conjunction with a neutral detergent suitable for polyamide fibres, ensuring all detergent residues are removed by rinsing thoroughly with water.

ALUMINIUM RECESSED - We would advise that a vacuum with heavy duty rotary power brush or beater bar should be used to remove deeply embedded dirt particles, especially in heavy traffic areas. It is important that the cleaning is carried out when the mat is dry, as the product releases more soil.

REPLACEMENT INSERTS - If inserts are damaged or unduly worn, they can be recycled and replaced with minimum cost implications.

SPECIFIC ADVICE - Contact the INTRAmatting team for specific cleaning advice on individual products and in abnormal environments. Full instructions available for Operation and Maintenance manuals.

Properly maintained entrance matting will improve its longevity. As with all matting, when subject to heavy wheeled traffic (scissor lifts/pallet trucks etc.) it should be suitably protected with plywood boarding. INTRAmatting entrance matting systems have a modular design, which ensures that damages or worn inserts can be replaced or recycled cost effectively.

Freeze removal method – this method is highly effective if an item like chewing gum is being removed. Specialist freezing sprays or gels can be used to remove any chewing gum and for further cleaning, the use of any citrus solvent can remove any residue. Failure to remove gum quickly will cause it to become hard and be compacted into the matting surface, rendering the matting ineffective.

Extraction Method – this cleaning technique uses hot water to extract dirt and remove deeply embedded soil. It is recommended that a minimum quarterly extraction cleaning is actioned for high traffic applications and more often during winter months

RECOMMENDED CLEANING PRODUCTS - Only pH neutral detergents suitable for polyamide fibres should be used for example, M2 Care Ultra which is a pH neutral detergent. Other floor care products may be used on INTRAmatting Entrance Matting. If alternative products are used, please consult with INTRAsystems for more guidance. We also recommend Evolution Sebo Vaccuum with Red brushes for deeper clean

CHEWING GUM - Chewing gum must be removed, as soon as it appears, by the use of specialist products, such as freezing sprays or gels – failure to remove gum quickly will cause it to become hardened and compacted into the matting surface, reducing performance.

SPOT CLEANING - Spot removal method – if a spill occurs, using a clean absorbent cloth or paper towel to absorb as much of the liquid as possible will add to the longevity of the mat. An all-purpose spot remover can clean the matting system very well.

LINT/FIBRE CLEANING TECHNIQUES - Lint is the common name for visible accumulations of textile fibres and other materials, these can get stuck in the fibres of the Entrance Matting therefore giving a dirty appearance and reducing the aesthetics of the building. We recommend a rotatory brush vacuum is used to thoroughly clean the matting. If the correct cleaning has not taken place, your matting is likely to look dull and dirty and give a poor first impression. A proper cleaning regime is therefore essential for the building and its occupants.

INTRALUX FIBRE - A water extraction machine is required to remove greasy soiling. Heavily soiled areas should be pre-treated before the machine is used. It is also recommended to run the machine with clean water (no detergents) to remove the last residues of soiling and detergents. Dry chemical systems (eg Host) are also useful for treating the soiled areas. The dry powder is worked into the pile, left to absorb the soiling and then vacuumed out.

ALUMINIUM RECESSED - OPEN - For open construction Entrance Matting Systems, which allow the fall-away of moisture and dirt into the matwell recess, the matting should be periodically (quarterly or monthly) lifted out of the matwell base (or rolled away depending on the system) and the base cleaned with a sweep or vacuum cleaner. Any debris caught between the matting channels should be removed and then the matting can be laid back into position. Be sure not to drag the matting, as this could cause damage.
