From the Pastor
Make the Pentecost Promise
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all
together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like
the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven
and filled the whole house where they were sit-
ting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of
fire that separated and came to rest on each of
them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak in other tongues as the
Spirit enabled them. Acts 2:1-4 (NIV)
Pentecost this year is on Sunday, June 8. Pente-
cost is the day we remember and celebrate the
gift of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the church.
The Pentecost season in the church year lasts
about six months. This year I am going to chal-
lenge the members of Dr. Martin Luther to take
the Pentecost Promise challenge. During the
month of May and June you are going to be
asked to pray about and make a commitment on
the amount of Sundays you will be worshipping
during the weeks of Pentecost. There will be a
bulletin insert for you to fill out and sign.
Worshipping together blesses us in so many
ways. Take the Pentecost Promise with me this
year and lift up our whole community.
God’s Blessings,
Pastor Larry

Youth and Family
April was an extremely busy month for Umbrella! Fundraising
for our trip went into high gear with three different fundrais-
ers. To kick things off, High School senior and Umbrella
member, Whitney Scherret, introduced our trip as the Wish-
ing Well ministry for the month. Then on April 13th, we had
our enormously successful car wash/cook out at Piggly Wig-
gly. Despite it being an overcast day, we managed to raise
$1,560.53 and that's after expenses! A giant thank you to
Angie Lewein for coordinating that event and to all the pa-
trons and volunteers that made it possible! Also on Holy
Week, our group was chosen to have their feet washed on
Maundy Thursday. Finally, our last fundraiser for the month
of April was the Easter Breakfast (which we had advertised by
putting door hangers on houses in the community earlier in
the month), which managed to raise $702. Proceeds from
the Wishing Well will be coming soon, but so far we have
raised $4,326.86 towards our trip out of the goal of
$10,000. Upcoming fundraisers for the month of May in-
clude a Pious Poker night at Tricia's Troops on May 16th at
7:00pm, a Bake Sale on Mother's Day (please contact
Melanie Rawson if you would like to contribute), and restau-
rant nights. There are still a few spots left open for the trip,
so if you are interested don't wait forever! Thank you so far
for all your support!

Volunteer Opportunities at DMLC
We are presently in need of volunteers in a couple of areas:
ST. BEN’S STUFFING PREPARERS
Once a month our cooks prepare stuffing at DMLC. This will be taken to Milwaukee’s St. Ben’s, along with the turkey
and gravy that has also been prepped in our kitchen. Every now and then we need to give a break to these dedicated
volunteers. PLEASE, PLEASE consider helping out and learning from these very talented cooks, the art of preparing
stuffing for a large crowd. Quite possibly up to 400 people. You would be amazed at how quickly and efficiently this
can be done. Right here at DMLC!! Once again, PLEASE help us out.
NURSERY HELP
We are looking for members who would like to help out in the Nursery during the 9:00 am service. The rotation would
probably be every 4-5 weeks. We can work around your availability also. Sometimes our little ones just need a little
break and a little supervision. Please think about helping out.
WISHING WELL MAY – MOUNT MERU COFFEE PROJECT
For the month of May we would like to bring attention to the Mount Meru Coffee Project. The MMCP is a part of and
supported by the Greater Milwaukee Synod. The project was organized to create a justice based relationship between
coffee farmers in Tanzania and coffee consumers of the USA. It brings together a fair market price for the farmers
and a quality coffee for consumers. During our 3 weeks of coffee hour in May we will be serving and selling Mt. Meru
coffee. Please take time to stop in Fellowship Hall for some coffee and fellowship, and purchase a bag for your home.
SPECIAL COFFEE HOUR - MAY 18TH
During the summer months, we will once again discontinue having coffee hour between Sunday services. The last
week we will be serving is Sunday, May 18th. Please join us as the members of “Fishing & Faith” serve up this
“special end of the year coffee hour” with egg bake, fruit, sweets and Mt. Meru coffee. Come and enjoy!!!
SPRING CLEAN UP MAY 10TH
Please join us on Saturday May 10th for our annual spring cleanup. I have placed a sign-up sheet on the table in the
back of the Sanctuary. Some of the areas we will be focusing on are: planting new bushes, sweeping and leveling the
Summit Avenue parking lot, raking, washing outside windows in the Education Building, hauling out unused heavy
items and installing the window air conditioners in the offices and Peace Room. We will begin at 8:00am, have a light
lunch provided by Pastor Larry and then send you on your way by 1:00pm. See you on the 10th!!
GRASS CUTTERS – WE STILL NEED YOU!!
As of this printing, we still have many dates available for grass cutting. We would like to keep from having to hire a
lawn service, so PLEASE check out the sign-up sheet on the table in the Sanctuary and see if there are any dates that
work for you. How about making it fun and make this a family project for even one week. Think about it, ok? Time’s
up!
Take time to identify your “gift” and use these “gifts” for God’s work in this world. Happy Spring!!!
