Pastor Laura Primm
Congratulations to our youth minister and Generations
worship leader, Laura Primm on her recent appointment as
an Associate Pastor to Mount Pleasant Church by the
Western NC Annual Conference of the United Methodist
Church (July 1, 2020). Her Clergy status remains with
another denomination and is approved by the WNCC Bishop
for appointment. Laura's job description remains the same,
although she will be able to preside as Clergy for Baptism,
Communion, Weddings, and Funerals. She will also have
regular preaching opportunities. Laura went through an
extensive interview process with the Annual Conference and
also defended her paperwork on theology and call to ministry
before the Transfer Committee. She recently began further
studies in polity, theology, and ministry which were required
by the committee. Laura is committed to living out her call
to ministry with the people of Mount Pleasant Church and we
are thankful for her gifts and leadership.
VERSE OF THE DAY:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation,
by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your
request to God. [Philippians 4 NIV]

Staff Resignation- Dana Adams
The Committee on Staff Parish Relations
received an email with an attached letter of resignation
from Dana Adams, Business Administrator, on
Thursday, June 11, 2020. The committee met Monday,
June 15 and voted to accept the resignation and begin a
process to fill the position left vacant. This was a
difficult decision but it is the hope of the committee
that the transition will be best for Dana and Mount
Pleasant Church.
Dana has been excellent in her duties over the
last 12 years. She offered a joyful attitude and diligent
work effort to all she did. Mount Pleasant Church is
better because of her. Dana’s last day of employment
is Tuesday June 23rd, 2020.
The Finance Committee is overseeing the
transition and temporarily handling church business
matters. The Staff Parish Relations Committee has
begun a search to hire someone with the necessary
skills and experience for the job. If you know someone
who is not a member of Mount Pleasant Church who
may be interested, have them email their resume to:
Staff Resignation- Johnny Stuart
The Committee on Staff Parish Relations
received a letter of resignation in hand from Johnny
Stuart, Building Maintenance, on Thursday, June 18,
2020. The committee voted to accept his resignation on
Monday, June 22.
Johnny has served with the staff of Mount Pleasant
Church for 10 years in an effective and light-hearted
spirit. He kept great notes on his work and saved the
church from hiring outside contractors on many
occasions.
The committee along with the Trustees will be
determining the next steps for Mount Pleasant Church
with regard to building maintenance. Johnny’s last day
of employment is June 30th, 2020.

in bulk. If you can pick up a
couple of extra items when you
shop and drop them off at the

CROSSROADS YOUTH
FUNDRAISER: CARD PROJECT $15
During the past months, many of our twice-weekly
youth Zoom devotions have been about the peace,
love, joy and hope that our growing faith in Jesus
brings to us. So, our Crossroads Youth decided to
create their own artwork that celebrates each of these
themes. Some of our youth participated by sending in
their work. As a result, we have 18 creative, beautiful,
and interesting sketches & drawings that we have had
professionally printed on notecards. Our hope is for
us to be people of good courage sending love and a
kind word out to a broken and hurting world.
This is a fundraiser by the youth, not for the youth.
Part of the lesson for the youth is for us to help
contribute to the community of faith that supports and
nurtures us. All proceeds will go towards Mt. Pleasant
Church’s Discretionary Fund, which helps members
and neighbors in need. Only a limited supply of cards
were printed – so order a greeting card pack today!
The Crossroads Youth will arrange for delivery if
needed. They will also be available in the church office
and through Laura Primm. These cards will surely
make you smile. They would be a great gift for
someone who likes to send cards regularly and great to
get for a person who needs to hear an encouraging
word from you.
There are 18 different cards & envelopes in a pack for
$15. Call or email Laura @
[email protected] to reserve your pack
of cards today.

Dear Youth,
Isaiah 40:31 says “But those who hope in the Lord will
renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be
faint.”
We receive God’s strength and power as we believe
and hope in Him, commit our days to Him, trust Him
for what’s ahead, and rely on Him every step of the
way. I encourage you to be willing to be dependent on
God. He will enable you to do all He has called you to
do.
As you step into each day of being a student, friend,
daughter, son, brother, sister, or employee, try taking
an intentional moment to put your hope where it
belongs—in the Lord. Ask God to be your strength.
Pray and let God know that you’ll make the effort and
do your best—but that you need Him and will rely on
Him.
In Christ, we can refocus our sight and thoughts to be
above the circumstances we’re facing. We can press on
with confidence, knowing that God is so good to renew
our strength.
Peace and love, Laura Rice Primm

LISTENING FOR GOD
Vacation Bible School 2020 at Mount Pleasant
UMC
4 Mondays: July 20, July 27, August 3, August 10
Drive-by and Pick up a Meal and VBS Materials
Vacation Bible School is starting to come
together with great thanks and appreciation to
all who have so graciously stepped up to help.
In particular we thank the Mount Pleasant’s
Women League for providing the drive-by
food boxes for our attendees.
That represents a great
commitment of service and
great love to God, our
community, and our
church. We are all grateful
for your generosity!
Other help that will be needed: 1. We are currently organizing materials for
the 4 VBS Mondays and will need help in
July as we get these materials together. If
you would like to help pack materials bags,
please contact me.
2. We need a variety of people to make a
video to post as part of our outreach. Two
kinds of videos are needed:
One that will demonstrate how to do
a craft.
One that reads a storybook about the
character of the week. Please
contact me if you can help.
3. We will be offering, as a sideline, a bag of
groceries for those who are food scarce.
This will help them get over the hump
before the beginning of school when food
will be more accessible through school
lunch programs.
We will need nonperishable dry goods and
groceries for this. A list will be provided in
the next newsletter.
4. We will also have fliers in July to pass out
to friends and neighbors. We will also send
out a VBS Invitation mailing to previous
attendees. Help us get the word out about
these 4 Mondays!
5. We ask for your prayers as we offer
something new at Mount Pleasant.
Your prayers will undergird all our efforts
and outreach. Thank you!
What will VBS will be like this year? There will be 4 nights of VBS, spread out over 4
weeks, on Monday of each week.
Families will drive up to pick up both a meal &
VBS materials.
Each night will offer Bible stories, crafts, music,
games, memory verses, a devotional, and mission
outreach.
VBS Bible Focus, Bedtime Bible Stories, and Craft
Demo Videos will be available on Zoom.
Everything will be done ahead and all materials
will be quarantined before they are handed out.
We Hope You Can Help Us with Donations of
Time, Talent, and Resources.
It Takes Courage & Faith to Do Something Not
Done Before. Please Pray for Our Success!

LISTENING FOR GOD: VBS
Weekly Bible Lessons
Week 1, July 20: Noah
listened to God even when
others laughed at him. At
the end of the story God
promised to care for the
Earth, and we can help God
care for the Earth too.
Week 2, July 27: Jonah did
not want to listen to God and
ran away. When he returned
to do what God had asked of
him, he ended up helping an
entire city.
Week 3, Aug. 3: In order
for Zacchaeus to listen to
Jesus, he had to overcome
certain obstacles. Even
though scorned by others,
Zacchaeus listened to Jesus,
and salvation came that
day.
Week 4, Aug. 10: After years
of having his disciples listen
to him, Jesus made sure that
Peter understood His message
of love by asking, “Do you
love me?” followed by “Feed
My Sheep.”
