Hello everyone, and so it seems it’s time to say ‘Hello Autumn’.The clocks have fallen back an hour and the night’s are drawingin, but hasn’t it got off to a beautiful start? I hope you too havebeen out and about enjoying our beautiful Cumbriansurroundings. Let’s make the most of it.

Well, another busy month has passed, infact my busiest to date, and I’ve seen a lot of people booking for Australia. A popularescape from our traditionally cold and dark winters, the startof 2013 will see many of my customers off down under to enjoythe warmth and everything Australasia has to offer. A variety ofstopovers are being booked, Bangkok, Singapore and HongKong being the most popular but I’ve just arranged a trainjourney between Thailand and Malaysia too.

However, I think it’s fair to say that naturally, peoples firstthoughts when they think of winter holidays, is snow. 2013 skiholidays have been ‘on sale’ for months and families and groupsof friends were booking 12 months in advance to secure theirfavourite resorts, ensure their children were booked into skischool, and get their first choice secured, but I am anticipatinga surge in enquiries soon once people see the snow has begunto steadily fall across Europe.

But, for something a little different, our special offers this weekfeatured Winter in the desert - a 4 night break in Las Vegas, a 4night break in Dubai and a reliable favourite, Canary Islandsunshine.

Winter holidays really can come in all shapes and sizes.Hope you all enjoy the celebrations for Halloween and bonfirenight, and next month I will be telling you all about safaris…until then,

Happy Holidays,

Sharon.Don’t forget, if you’d like to receive my weekly offers, just emailme to let me know. Email: [email protected]

n September’s issue we examined theLasting Power of Attorney. That Article

has had great feedback but followingpublication I have been asked one questionmore than any other; What happens if youdon’t have a Lasting Power of Attorney?

If you or a relative loose the mental capacityto make decisions for yourself and you donot have a Power of Attorney appointingsomeone to make those decisions for youlife can be very difficult for those left to dealwith the situation.

Once a person looses the capacity to makedecisions for themselves, if they have notappointed an Attorney, it is up to the Courtto make decisions for them. This means thatif a suitable applicant wishes to have thelegal authority to make decisions on behalfof the person who has lost mental capacitythey must make an application to the Court.

The applicant has to apply for what is calleda Deputyship Order. This is an Order that thecourt can make to appoint a Deputy for theperson who has lost mental capacity. Likethe Attorney the Deputy can be appointedto deal with either Health and Welfaredecisions or Property and Financial Affairsdecisions or both.

The application process for a DeputyshipOrder is necessarily complex and longwinded taking on average three months toprocess. The complexities also makeobtaining the Deputyship Order veryexpensive, compared to the Lasting Powerof Attorney process. Any person canprepare their application to become a

Deputy themselves by downloading thedocuments from the following website:www.direct.gov.uk

Lakes Legal Limited offers a comprehensivepackage to help all prospective Deputiesthrough this application process. All LakesLegal Limited services are conducted for anagreed fixed price- so you know exactlyhow much it is going to cost you from theout set. If you need any help or would liketo talk to someone about the optionsavailable please call 01229 47 18 71 and askto speak to Hannah, remember the firsthour is free!

The UlverstonBusiness Centre, situated downone side of NewMarket Streetabove the shopsbetween theMarket Hall and

the Post Office, is probably one of the town’s secretbusiness gems, as from the street, it is only anentrance doorway, but inside and upstairs, it is a vastcomplex of various affordable office suites andmeeting rooms. UBC is owned by John Muldoon andSteve Johnstone and managed by Archie Workman, the latter is a well known local business mentor andcurrently chairman of the Ulverston Business Alliancewww.ulverstonbusinessalliance.ning.com“We have a range of affordable offices at the momentthat start at around £50.00 per week + VAT, however, due to the current economic climate and repeatedrequests for incubator space in Ulverston, we havecreated a series of “Buddy Offices”TM which willhalve this cost for two companies sharing the sameroom” says Archie.

In the Business Hub, which has free Wi-Fi, we have theflexibility to use one of our meeting rooms as abusiness incubator space with “hot desks” for buddingyoung entrepreneurs or olderpreneurs to work fromto develop their business.

Archie also manages the website “Cumbria Jelly”TMwww.cumbriajelly.ning.com for homeworkers inCumbria to network together and is hosting“Ulverston Jelly” on the 1st Friday morning of eachmonth, when homeworkers can meet up for themorning and work together in the Business Hub withtheir lap-tops.

A small cover charge (inc VAT) for this includes tea &coffee, ‘doughnuts’ and the room hire. Meeting roomscan be hired by the hour, half day and full day atcompetitive rates.

There are not many places in towns where you canwalk in off the high street and have a confidentialmeeting, have a cosy office, be supported by a businessmentor and network with like minded businesses.

UBC will be hosting a series of training workshops in2013, which will be relevant to small businesses.

Good morning, Well it's cold here in the lakes and I'm thinkingabout all those lovely winter stews andwholesome casseroles topped with dumplings, mmm. How many of you think that if you are ona diet they are a no-no?You could be wrong, they are an amazing way towarm up and fill up on all of those vitamin richvegetables and protein and fibre rich beans andlentils, add to that a large helping of amazingtomatoes and rosemary and you have a recipefor success. Pop them in a slow cooker and youhave fast easy meals just waiting for you to comein the door from work.

If you had been following my 12 week course orliving life in balance your little black dresswouldn't be a problem. A recent study found that1/4 of all women who buy a "christmas partydress" buy it a size smaller in the hope that theywill lose a few pounds to wear it, the reality isthat with all the extra eating and drinking theyoften don't get to wear it at all and tend to puton not lose weight in the run up to Christmas.

Long term health and weight control are notachieved over night or even in 12 weeks, they

are a result of long term good habits. So whatare the secrets to Good Health? Next month we’ll look at super foods for greathealth to add to your diet.

Oh dear which one to choose, they all fit!!!!!

My clients have strategies to cope with this and a couple of secretweapons to lose weight and limit the damage over the festivities.

1. The formula 1 shakes and F2 vitamins to keep up their energylevels and cut right back on calories (approx 210 cals per meal)and on those party days remember to have an extra shake before leaving so you don't attack the buffet with gay abandon with an appetite of someone who hasn't eaten for a week!

2. The cheaters delight or fat buster!! - Fibre bond it does exactly what it says it bonds fat to the fibre and allows it to pass through your system without being absorbed, no unpleasant side effects, just removes some of the unwanted fat and can be used as and when you need it.

3. Don't forget to drink water or your thermo herbal beverage to keep you feeling great, full of energy!

There are three pillars to good health andWellness…

1. Plenty of Water –between 1.5 and 2.5 litres per day

2. Regular Exercise – 30 to 45 minutes 5 times per week

3. A Balanced Diet – containing the right levels of nutrients, vitamins and minerals and a balance of carbohydrates, proteins and fibres.

What a great use of waste! That’s what Corrin Hanlinthought when she first cameacross a Scrap Store. Thereare now over 100 in the UK,they’re becoming reallypopular. She was so impressedthat she decided to set one upin Ulverston. In 2010 USS(Ulverston Scrap Store) wasfounded as a small charity. What’s a scrap store you mayask? An Aladdin’s cave ofthings that businesses andpeople throw out or nolonger need. So it couldbe things like paper, cardboard, fabrics, wool, manufacturing or retailoffcuts, samples, damagedgoods or end of lines. Itcould be office supplies, wallpaper and fabricsample books, brightlycoloured cellophanethe list is endless. Tohelp people knowwhat USS can usethere is adownloadable list onthe website, but if whatyou have is not onthere, please contact

us and we’ll let you know if we canuse it. You’d be amazed at what a bitof imagination can do to transformwaste things into somethingwonderful.

For businesses it’s great to be ableto donate clean, safe waste materialsas helps with cutting down the wastethat goes to landfill, as well asbenefiting the local community. Forindividuals who donate, you know

that by donating items you nolonger want, one of USS’smembers will be delighted touse them.

So who uses a scrap store? These are some of the types ofgroups that could use USS, I’msure there are many more.Adventure playgrounds, Afterschool clubs, Art groups, Arttherapists, Breakfast clubs,Brownies/Guides, Carehomes, Children’s Centres,City farms, Communityartists, Community centres,Community groups, Childminders, Crèches, Churchgroups, Day care centres, Daynurseries, Dance groups,Drama groups, FE College

hristian Dior was right, everyone loves a scarf! Notonly do they keep you warm but they can

transform your outfit in an instant. Scarves are loved bywomen of all ages and make the most wonderful fashionaccessory. There are countless ways to tie your scarf, stole or pashmina, depending on what you are wearing, where you are going and what way out you feel. Allscarves are a wonder but pashminas are special. If you’ve never tried a pashmina, you will likely wonderhow a colourful piece of fringed fabric can be consideredsuch a phenomenon and often costs more than a coat. However, the passion for pashmina is well worthconsideration and there are good reasons why thecelebrity of scarves often comes with its show off price tag.Pashmina wool is found on the underbelly of the CapraHircus mountain goat which survives extreme weatherconditions 1200ft high in the Himalayas. This shortundercoat of hair is six times finer than human hair andkeeps the goat warm in the coldest of conditions.Pashmina is possibly the softest and finest wool in theworld and can only be spun by hand. Once woven withsilk it gains strength and durability and has often beendescribed as the fibre of Kings. The art and science of making pashminas is thought tobe as old as 3000 years BC. The skill was perfected by theNepalese and for the longest time, production wasprotected and remained solely in Kashmir, the region oforigin. Despite today’s worldwide demand for pashminafabric, most pashminas are still hand woven in Nepal.

A WEEK IN THELIFE OF APASHMINA“Scarves can give the final touch to yourfrock…..and a scarf is to a woman what aneck tie is to a man, and the way you tie it ispart of your personality.”

Once you put a pashmina on you really won’t want totake it off. It is soft and warm, elegant and bright, not onlythat it has charisma. Pashminas have been worn forcenturies by Kings and Queens and Nobles for goodreason since no matter how you tie it or wear it, it willstand proud on your head and neck and shoulders. Youcan drape it, wrap it or tie it then you can stuff it into atiny space in your handbag and when you bring it backout it will still be fabulous.

Pashmina scarves are available at every price pointdepending on their pashmina content and what they aremixed with. Those blended with viscose or manmadefibres are less expensive than those mixed with silk andthose that are pure pashmina. They are all brilliant, however, if you are looking for the real thing you can feelassured you’ve found one if you can pull the entire thingthrough a man’s sized wedding ring.

The real thing is at Two by Two Ulverston. Our pashminasare produced by Cocowai, a cashmere company based inDevon which works truly ethically with their partners inNepal. Our pashminas are hand woven, in 70% cashmereand 30% silk in our specified size which works perfectlyas both a scarf and a shawl. We have about 30 differentgorgeous colours to choose from which can present a bitof a problem when it comes to making a choice. They docost £65 but you will adore it and you will be as warm asa Himalayan goat.
