Politicians (Budget cuts – defending this)

Dominant ideologies in the press coverage:

That youths are ALL hooligans

Police are there to protect you

Lower class youths = Main problem

Middle class youths have more control and power than Lower class youths

Politicians are always right in what they say

What caused the riots? Were the events as simple as what was portrayed in the press?

August 4th Marcus Duggan pulled from taxi and shot dead

One officer shot – Not by Duggan Later found it was police issued bullet

Taxi taken away then brought back for inspection
