From Grimsby in the north with its long tradition of fishing to the flat agricultural landscapes around Boston that supply so much of our nation’s fruits

and vegetables, there’s no doubt that Lincolnshire is a county where food matters. Not just any old food either – the name of Lincolnshire is synonymous with quality and a ‘second place will not do’ attitude that means that when you buy Lincolnshire foods you know that you’re buying the best.

Lincolnshire’s famous food heritage includes the succulently marbled beef from the Lincoln Red cattle which graze many of the county’s pastures, Lincolnshire sausages with their rustic texture and rich sage aromatics, and fine lamb and poultry, including ostrich, for whom the county has proven to be an ideal environment.

Grimsby fish is of course legendary but it’s not just a centre for cod and haddock. The local smoked fish was awarded protected geographical indication status by the EU in 2009 and the fish docks are also home many salmon specialist firms and to boats dedicated to the crab and lobster harvest, supplying top quality shellfish to customers all over the continent.

There are also a wide range of delicious artisan cheeses, including not just the deliciously peppery Lincolnshire Poacher from Alford but also many others such as Market Rasen’s Lincoln Blue and the Cote Hill range from Osgodby and on the sweeter side of things let’s not forget Lincolnshire plum loaves, each made to the bakers very own secret special recipe and the centuries old favourite Grantham gingerbread.

Many of these producers sell in large part through the network of farm shops which exists throughout the county, making Lincolnshire fine produce and fresh or organic foods available to everyone, whatever their locality.

We could go on a lot longer – we haven’t even mentioned the fine restaurants and hotels which the county has to offer, nor the many craft breweries and wineries or the fabulous bakers, chocolatiers, confectioners and preserve makers – but we’ve said enough to make the case that Lincolnshire is a county that’s all about quality food.

This year issue 27 of The Peoples (June 5th-July 17th) will be distributed at the

Lincolnshire Show and we plan to celebrate the quality and diversity of Lincolnshire foods, especially those from the north east of the county. We intend to build a substantial feature that’s worth reading and remembering and we’re looking for advertisers from all sectors of the food industry to come on board and help us create a proper celebration of what makes our local produce great.

The Peoples is the number one free lifestyle magazine for Grimsby, Cleethorpes and the surrounding area, distributed through dozens of outlets including the four major supermarkets, Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury and Morrison’s. We’re not just an ad rag, we’re a proper local magazine with plenty of stories on local arts and events.

We’ve recently undertaken a major make over, moving to a stylish new look in a B5 format, and in addition to our print edition we also have a live linked web edition which we

update with fresh local stories and pictures throughout the currency of the magazine, and an extensive social media network which we use to promote both ourselves and our advertisers.

Our rates are reasonable and include art work. Alternatively you can supply your own artwork. For our Lincolnshire foods feature we are offering not only advertising space but also producer profiles, ranging in size from a half page to a two page spread, and for these we’ll be happy to visit your premises for photography and research and we’ll undertake to produce a final product that will raise the profile of your business and generate lots of consumer and corporate interest.
