HOLIDAY CARRIAGE

RIDES THROUGH

PEMBERTON Thank you to the Peeler Family for arranging for our neighbors to enjoy all of the beautiful decorations throughout the neighborhood while riding in a magical horse drawn carriage. The carriage rides have become an annual tradition that we hope the Peelers will continue to make possible. Thanks to all the neighbors who helped with refreshments as well.

Walking in the Neighborhood Betty Trent, AIA LEED AP

Last month I discussed walking to breakfast, this month I thought I’d let you know about options for lunch or dinner. You can walk along the streets or take a stroll using the Shoal Creek hike and bike trail, but either way a delightful meal can await you. The Brick Oven on 38th has much more than pizza. Open for lunch or dinner they feature lasagna, pastas, stromboli and other Italian favorites to be enjoyed in a cozy setting. There is even a small outdoor dining patio for enjoying on days with comfortable weather.

Website: http://www.brickovenrestaurant.com/ Texas French Bread on 29th has sandwiches, soup and salads at lunch, but is offering a prix fix dinner on some evenings that can be a great bargain. They also allow you to bring in your own wine for a small corkage fee.

Website http://www.texasfrenchbread.com Fino at 29th and San Gabriel has Mediterranean inspired food, Tapas like small plates, a great wine list and a lovely shaded patio. Although it is on the second floor, it has elevator access.

Website http://www.astiaustin.com/fino/ If you are up for a longer walk ( about two miles round trip), going south on the hike and bike trail, you’ll find the Tavern a perfect spot to enjoy Texas comfort food or Austin Java for pasta, sandwiches and cupcakes. If you are up for a longer walk going north you have many destinations to select from: EZ’s for burgers and rosemary chicken or Santa Rita at 26 doors for Mexican and great Happy Hour offerings.
