The Sports Section:Upcoming March Madness

By Kadin Dempsey

A extremely big event that is coming up in March is March Madness. March Madness is the college basketball championship. The stages of the road to the championship are Round 1, Round 2, Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final 4, and the NCAA National Basketball Championship. There are 68 teams selected and only one will come out as a champion One thing that sixth grade does for March Madness is we hold a Tournament of Books. The language arts teachers send students a Google Form to use for nominating books. Students then vote on their favorite books. The voting is like a poll. When you vote for your favorite books, you put 5 book titles and the authors of the book. We follow the bracket until we declare a winner.

Formula 1 (F1) Racing

By Gavin G. Gifford

Formula 1 automobile racing has its roots in the European Grand Prix Motor Racing of the 1920’s and 1930’s. The “formula” in the name refers to a set of rules to which all participants and cars must comply. Have you ever wanted to be in a low and slick F1 car? “To protect competitors in the event of a crash or vehicle fire, a driver’s helmet can withstand temperatures of up to 800C, while their driving overalls are made of material that can fend off heat of 840C for up to 11 seconds” (formula1.com). F1 is one of the fastest race cars that goes on tracks. “Highest top speed – Juan Pablo Montoya, 2005 Italian Grand Prix. A year after setting F1's fastest ever lap, Juan Pablo Montoya returned to Monza to set another all-time record during the Italian Grand Prix weekend, hitting a top speed of 372.6kph (231.523mph) the fastest ever recorded in Formula One” (redbull.com). (CONTINUED ON PAGE 5)

Last year the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins was voted 6th Grade Book of the Year.

We are looking forward to seeing what this year’s 6th grade students pick as their all-time favorite!

Formula (F1) Racing

(CONTINUED FROM PAGE 4)

What is Formula 1

Formula One Racing is one of the most famous types of racing. F1 stands for Formula One. These cars race on circuits or tracks with lots of turns and twists. F1 cars look much like Indycar cars. If you don’t know what Indycar cars look like, they look like skinny cars with wings and the wheels are exposed. “Planes use their wings to create lift, race cars use theirs to create negative lift, better known as downforce” (mydriftfun.com). F1 cars use wings like that too, but for the opposite reason. They use the downforce to go down, which causes them to stick to the ground, so they have better handling and more speed. If they were used for the same cause as airplanes, they would say, “I Believe I Can Fly, I Believe I Can Touch the Sky”. F1 racers are protected by fireproof suits and strong helmets. F1 cars, wheels, axles, wings, and other outside parts fall apart easily. If you bump the wall a little bit ,you could damage your wheel. These parts fall apart so easily because the protection is where the driver sits. If they hit the wall hard, it won’t injure the driver as much because it is built like that.

F1 V.S. Indycar

F1 or Indycar - what is the difference? They have different engines. “IndyCar runs the same chassis and with two engine manufacturers – Honda and Chevrolet. But while the actual cars are the same, the aero kits are unique depending on the engine supplier” (carthrottle.com). Indycar cars go 235 mph, while F1 cars go 200 mph (carthrottle.com). They also have similarities, such as, they look mostly alike and they race on the same types of tracks (except f1 cars don’t race on oval tracks). F1 cars have buttons and different options on the steering wheel, but Indy cars do not. Who would win in a race, though? If you want to try to guess, click here: F1 vs. Indycar Quiz.

By Le’na Chapel

My big brother, Khieler Chapel, is 17. My brother is a sleepyhead. He does his homework He is nice to me. He has a YouTube channel. He does chores like cleaning his room, washing the dishes, and cleaning the bathroom.

He doesn’t have a job, but he would like to work at a fast food restaurant like McDonald’s. He could take orders, make food, and clean.
