MEET OUR STAFF
Meet Laura Johnson, our Toddler and Two’s Teacher
Laura has been the Toddlers and Two’s teacher for the past 3 ½ years at JUMC. If you go near her room on Sunday morning or Wednesday night, you are likely to hear music playing and to see dancing and singing with the children. You are also just as likely to see her on the floor playing with the children. She loves that the children “have so much energy and are so happy.” You can see Jesus in the way she leads the children. Laura has three children of her own. Raegan is in the youth program while Lily and Dane are part of the children’s pro-gram. Her husband Mike teaches the youth on Sunday morn-ings. JUMC is a family affair for the Johnsons. Laura is also a full-time student at ETSU in the Nursing program.
Meet Erin Gilham, our Nursery Attendant
Erin has worked with the infants at JUMC for about 10 years. She has been married to Scott for 18 years and they have 3 girls, Hannah, Delaney and Cora. Her parents (Tom and Joyce Pardue) and her sister’s (Renee and Tom McNees) family also attend JUMC. She just loves “watching the babies grow up and holding them while they are little.” Erin also works full time for the “Catering Company.”

On March 31, we will have a combined service at 10 am. This is a great
opportunity for us to come together to worship our Lord and Savior who

Jewel works assisting Erin with the
infants. She has two children, London

nursery before it turned into a part-
time job several years ago.
Jewel works full-time at Eastman in
Logistics Planning. She is also the
caregiver to her mother, Erma Toth,
who is a lifelong member of JUMC.
Her mother and father were married
at JUMC. Her favorite part of the
job is holding the babies.

Adventure Kids
The Adventure Kids program on Wednesday nights continues to be lively and fun! Recently
we had another “Bible time’s meal” – the kids sat on floor on cloths and ate most of the food
with their hands – various fruits, breads and meats were served, along with grape juice. Bible
stories about life in Jesus’ time were read.
Rhythmic sticks have been added this session. You might hear the tapping and scratching
sounds coming from our room on Wednesday nights. Toddlers through grade 6 are enjoying
this new musical addition to the program.
Ash Wednesday Service, March 6
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Lent is a
time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of
fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline.
Ash Wednesday emphasizes two themes: our sinfulness before God and
our human mortality. The service focuses on both themes, helping us to re-
alize that both have been triumphed through the death and resurrection of
Jesus Christ. Our Service will be held on Wednesday, March 6 at 6:30 pm.

"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way into the wilderness and streams into the wasteland."
Isaiah 43:19
Greetings from Sisters of Faith! March is the month we change our clocks — we spring forward! The Sisters are well on their way springing forward. We are diligently working on our 4th Annual Spring Bazaar, April 13, from 9-4pm. Kudos to Tami Moore and Jeri Jones for organizing this time-consuming, worthwhile mission. Our proceeds go back into missions for the community. We’ve brought smiles to the faces of the Residents of Four Oaks Nursing Home by delivering Valentine bal-loons and smiling faces to the residents, and we’ve provided gifts for each resident for Christ-mas. We also provide financial gifts for people in our church and community that are enduring hard times. We care and you are loved. Attached is also a picture of the proposed Pavilion the Sisters are working toward. The Pavil-ion will be placed behind the Youth house if all is approved. As you can see this will be a costly endeavor and we have the faith we can do this! All donations are appreciated and any items you would like to submit for the Silent Auction are appreciated; a tax deduction form will be given if you desire. Contact Claudia Randolph 202-2409, Tami Moore 754-0044, or Jeri Jones 646-3756. Happy bidding and happy donating! Our next meeting will be held March 14 at Judy Shelton's home, 624 E. Main Street, Jonesbor-ough. Please call Judy at 753-3273 and let her know you are coming so there will be enough for all. We had two new faces at our last meeting!
We have exciting news about our Silent Auction! Joel and Jean Conger, owners of Mauk’s of Jonesborough, have donated one of their much desired Stressless Chairs! The proceeds from this chair will go toward the Pavilion for the church the Sisters have been working toward the past few years. We are very close to making this dream come true! The Stressless Chair will be placed in the fellowship hall for the next several weeks for everyone to see and sub-mit their silent bid. The day of the Spring Bazaar the chair will be open for bids to all interested at the ba-zaar. The one we are bidding on will be chocolate brown rather than tan. Happy bidding and make your life Stressless!

JOTS FROM JANE
WASH YOUR HANDS AND SAY YOUR PRAYERS, BECAUSE JESUS AND GERMS ARE EVERYWHERE !
The flu is raging again this year, as most of you know. I was thinking about how our doctors’ office personnel avoid getting the viruses, and found a blog written by a physician, on WebMD. Dr. Hansa D. Bhargava says she does the following to keep from getting sick: 1. Hand washing. 2. Eating a healthy and colorful diet. 3. Getting enough sleep. 4. Cleaning surfaces. 5. Trying to keep stress in check., Dr. Bhargava says, “Most (colds and coughs) are viral, and will eventually get better on their own. It will take time, and some colds can turn into sinusitis and other more serious infections. That’s why preventing infection goes a long way.” These are good suggestions for us all to fol-low. Praying that the flu season passes you by! Blessings, Parish Nurse Jane

Worship and Briefing Meeting to Follow General Conference
Each district will meet March 3 at 3 pm to pray together and learn from Holston delegates who attended General Conference February 23-26. Twelve delegates (plus four alternates) represented the Holston Conference in St. Louis to dis-cuss the way forward for the United Methodist Church on the issue of human sexuality. Our (Three Rivers District) 3/3@3 gathering will be held at Gray UMC.
ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND!
CYB GROUP HAPPENINGS
On Valentine’s Day, Tami Moore hosted 22 guests of the CYB for a special luncheon. A wonderful meal of chicken cordon bleu, mashed potatoes, green beans and rolls, along with two kinds of dessert. It was all wonderful. With serving help from Betty Calliham and music provided by Don Burger, it was an event that was truly memorable. On March 14, our senior fellowship will be at Cootie Brown’s in Johnson City. Those wishing to use the church bus should meet in the parking lot at 11:30 am for a noon reser-vation at the restaurant.

YOUTH NEWS
Greetings from the youth! Resurrection was once again a wonderful time for the youth and adults. Our topic this year was on “Grace.” God’s Grace starts at birth and goes with us until we go home to the Lord. The youth and adults were blessed with each talk and the music. Thank you for your prayers and support.
Thank you to Mike and Laura Johnson for opening your home for the Super Bowl. A great time was had by all.
We will be cooking on Sunday, March 24, for Family Promise. What a wonderful way to show God’s love for the folks staying with us. You need to be here by 4 pm.
The 30-hour Famine has started. This is a time when the youth raise funds for those who don’t have enough food. The money raised will be divided between World Vision (half the proceeds), JAMA (a quarter of the proceeds), and Jubilee Project (a quarter of the proceeds). We will collect money until April. Make checks payable to JUMC and put 30-hour Famine on the memo line. Thank you in advance for your support.
Our Mission Trip is June 1-8. Mark your calendar now — this is a great time to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Thanks, youth, for being faithful. See you Sunday!
Blessings,
Miss Mary Ann

MARCH MISSION Good Samaritan Ministries
Good Samaritan is a non-profit ministry founded in Johnson City by Sarah and Vernon Wells in March, 1985, and financially aided by our church member, Sam Tomlin, for whom the building on North Roan Street is named. The stated mission is to combat poverty and to change lives in Upper East Tennessee through sharing the love of Christ. The ministry provides emergency ser-vices for the poor, homeless, low-income, children, veter-ans, and elderly populations. Ninety-five percent of all donations are used directly for client needs. A special program for March is the preparation of Resurrection Baskets for needy children at Easter. Since there is always a pressing need, it is urgent that JUMC continues giving generously as well as preparing forty baskets this month. These may be returned to the Nar-thex or the Open Door classroom by Sunday, April 7.
