Komatsu, GE Joint Venture Will Focus On New Mine Equipment Komatsu and GE Mining have announced a new joint venture to develop next-generation mining equipment. By combining their expertise in mining equipment and propulsion systems, the companies will help meet the needs of customers and partners worldwide, with an initial focus on developing solutions to increase customer productivity. The new company, Komatsu GE Mining Systems will be located at the GE Transportation facility in Erie, PA, and operations will begin in April 2014. Komatsu and GE will each own 50% of the new company. Komatsu and GE Transportation have been partners for Komatsu electric dump trucks for use in open- pit mines, for which GE has supplied electric-drive systems. By further building on the existing partnership, the new company will combine GE’s electric power expertise. "Although coal trade only accounts for about 5% of trade flows in energy fuels, the volume of U.S. coal exports has steadily increased, from 50 million short tons (MMst) in 2005 to a record 126 MMst in 2012," the EIA wrote. While coal exports declined slightly in 2013 compared with the previous year, they've been rising dramatically since the beginning of the 21st century. The US' biggest coal customer is Europe, which accounts for 50% of exports, followed closely by Asia. The domestic coal market has its own set of issues: Rising natural gas production has driven a decline in U.S. coal demand and the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) new regulations could force many coal-fired power plants to shut down. A survey of the entire sector shows a significant decline in coal use in every sector. U.S. electric-power industries used 649 million short tons of coal last year compared with more than 1 billion short tons in 2007. PARISH LIFE

“The Church draws her life from the Eucharist. This truth does not simply express a daily experience of faith, but recapitulates the heart of the mystery of the Church.” (St. John Paul - On the Eucharist & Its Relationship to the Church). At the parish of St. Theresa, we strive to embody these words that describe the centrality of the Eucharist for the life and mission of the Church.

We welcome you to join us as we gather to celebrate our faith and worship God. Whatever your present status in the Catholic Church, whatever your current family or marital situation, whatever your past or present religious affiliation, whatever your personal history, age, background, or race, you are a Child of God and you are welcomed, accepted, loved, and respected at the Church of St. Theresa.

Dear Brothers & Sisters, August 1st, 2020 We are marching our way through the summer months! This extremely warm weather that we have had over the past few weeks has definitely reminded us that we are indeed in the midst of the summer season here along the Jersey shore. I hope that you have had the opportunity to be outside and enjoy yourself a bit despite the heat. As we begin this month of August, I want to share with you some important & exciting updates about parish life & ministry:

● Each week the attendance at Mass seems to increase slightly. I am happy that more & more of our parishioners believe it is safe enough to return to Mass, as we do our best to follow all of the guidelines mandated by the state & Diocese.

● On Saturday, August 15th the universal Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This wonderful celebration captures the Church’s belief & teaching that “the Immaculate Virgin, preserved free from all stain of original sin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things.” (Pope Pius XII, 1950) This year the Solemnity of the Assumption is not a Holy Day of Obligation because it falls on a Saturday & the current dispensation by Bishop David O’Connell from the obligation to attend Mass. As a parish, we will observe the Assumption with Mass on Friday, August 14th @7pm & Saturday, August 15th @8am. The Mass on Friday will be livestreamed.

● On Saturday, August 15th at 7pm we will celebrate a special Mass, which will include the Sacraments of Initiation for the current members in our RCIA program. This was originally scheduled to take place at the Easter Vigil on April 11th. This year, we have 5 people receiving all of their Sacraments of Initiation, and an additional 3 people completing their Sacraments of Initiation. This special Mass is open to the entire parish community to attend.

● The Children’s Faith Formation program for our parish will resume this September. Joana Schmidt, our coordinator of religious education, is working diligently to implement all of the guidelines mandated by the state & Diocese.

● Recently, we have begun the search to hire a new youth minister to help restart STAY (Saint Theresa Active Youth Group). Please keep this search in your prayers.

● Beginning on Monday, August 3rd, the parish office will be open from 8:30am- 4pm on Monday thru Thursday & on Friday from 8:30am- 12pm.

As you can see, there is a lot for us to anticipate and to be excited about here at our parish. I look forward to seeing you at Mass! Peace & Blessings, Father John Large

AS A CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY:

WE PRAY FOR OUR SICK

Please remember in your prayers all those members of our parish family and our friends who continuously suffer physically, emotionally and/or spiritually and those who tirelessly care for them. Let us especially remember those currently in need of our prayers: Cathy Bentivegna, Esther Berdini, Robert Caputo, Kim Carroll, Angie Corrado, Kim Coyle, Erin Derr, Andy Dolch, Cass Donohue, Johnny Favro, Emma Fernandez-Regan, Cecilia Garbaravage, Patty Gardner, Paul Gleason, Nelida Kuhlman, Nancy McCarten, Rev. William Modlin, John Moore, Irene Neumuller, Cynthia Noche, Nillo Noche, Andrew Joseph Ragusa, Tracy Robinson, Matthew Steinmetz, Sean William, John Williamson and Sharon Williamson.

WE PRAY FOR OUR RECENTLY DECEASED

We extend our prayers and sympathy to the family and friends of Vittorio Basile, Joan Czekalwski, Velma Ditzel, Howard Leibenow and Nickolas Spagnola . May they find eternal rest in peace with God our Father.

WE PRAY FOR OUR MILITARY

Please remember in your prayers all those members of our parish family and our friends who are currently deployed especially: Master Sgt. Jordan Bieda, Airman Steven Brown, Boatswain Gabrielle Fest, Airman Staff Sgt. Frank J. Kowalewski, Jr., Sgt. First Class Tom Krumpher, Lt. Jennifer LaFalace, Pvt. Anthony Mackiewicz, Jr., Staff Sgt. Michael Novelli, Staff Sgt. Nicholas Okoszko, Sgt. Robert Paolello, Cpl. Matthew Volko, Lt. Christopher J. Worosz, USN, Lt. Matthew A. Worosz, USN. May the Lord protect them as they protect us.

WE PRAY FOR VOCATIONS Lord of Harvest, we petition you as you have instructed us to ask for more laborers to serve in the vineyard of Your Church. You have told us that the harvest is rich and laborers are few, and we experience this great need in the face of the challenge of the New Evangelization. We ask the Holy Spirit to inspire young men to seriously consider vocations to the priesthood. Help all of us to be effective instruments to encourage and support those whom you are calling to serve and lead in the Church in the future. Lord, you told your Apostles to put out into the deep. We ask for the grace and courage to accept your call as we pray and work for an increase in vocations to the priesthood. We ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ, the Great High Priest, Amen.

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Baptisms are held the 1st Sunday of the month at 1:30 PM. Arrangements must be made in person at the Parish Office at least 2 months in advance. Parents and Godparents are required to attend a Baptismal Prep Class. THE SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE: Arrangements must be made at least 1 year in advance. Preparations include sessions with a member of the clergy and attendance at a Pre-Cana Conference. For more information, please call the Parish Office.

THE SACRAMENT OF THE SICK: The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. A careful judgment about the serious nature of an illness is sufficient. “Hence, as soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived."130 We welcome anyone who has a physical condition, is anticipating entering the hospital for surgery or tests, or under any emotional distress to avail themselves of this beautiful Sacrament. Please call the Parish Office to schedule the sacrament with a priest. Please do not wait until the very last minute to call us.

Breaking Open The Word August 2, 2020

18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

First Reading: Isaiah 55:1-3 With great enthusiasm and fervor, God urges his people to come to him and to accept the gifts he extends to them. Second Reading: Romans 8:35, 37-39 In words that are both stirring and courageous, Paul exclaims that nothing will separate him and his followers from the love of Christ--neither trial--nor persecution--nor death. Gospel: Matthew 14:13-21 Matthew gives us a straightforward and convincing account of the miracle of the loaves and fishes. Because the crowds following Jesus were hungry, he took five loaves and two fish, blessed them, and gave them to the crowds. Although the people numbered about five thousand, there was still food remaining. Consider & Reflect: “Thus says the Lord: All you who are thirsty, come to the water. Come without paying and without cost... Heed me and you shall eat well. You who have no money, come receive grain and eat. Come to me heedfully, listen, that you may have life. I will renew with you the everlasting covenant.” During the hot days of summer we are constantly looking for relief. A refreshing drink, a cool breeze, a pool or lake, a break from oppression and toil. Water is often the most welcome solution. It was the water of baptism which gave us new life, and allowed us to live the covenant the Lord made with His people. Water was a constant in the bible from creation, the flood, the Red Sea, and even the side of Jesus on Calvary. It is the water of grace which enables us to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. When we celebrate the sacraments, every time we receive the Eucharist, we are touched by God’s saving grace. Maybe it is worth a minute to ask the Lord to help me appreciate the great gift He offers me constantly.
