A Way of Life
This Week’s Readings
All that we have and all that we are comes from the Lord. “We are truly His handiwork,” says St. Paul in the second reading, “created in Christ Jesus to lead the life of good deeds which God prepared for us in advance.”
In Living Stewardship
We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who remain steadfast to their Lenten promises through increased prayer, sacrifice and almsgiving.

Principal’s
Announcements
God who created us, You offer us new life through your Son and through the gift of your sacraments. While we see new life all around us, we don't always recognize the new life you offer us. Help us to grow this Lent in an awareness of the gifts you place in our lives and in a greater appreciation for your care. Give us the courage to ask for help. We are at the mid-point of Lent! How are you doing? It is not too late to get back on track. If you have not watched the videos by Matthew Kelly, it may be a good time to start. Here is the link: http://dynamiccatholic.com/bestlentever/. Congratulations to the following St. Agnes Cathedral School students upon their recognition as finalists in the DRVC Respect Life Contest: Catherine Bendowski, Daniel Erben, Brendan Dunster, Fabriana Stortz, Alanna Mahar, Courtney Cummings, and Chandler Asher. Thursday, March 15th is the long anticipated Green and Gold at 7:00 p.m. in the gym. School is closed on Friday, March 16th as the teachers and I will participate in a full day of professional development. I wish you all a continued happy and successful Lent.

From the Rector —
Dear Parishioners:
As you may know my father passed away two weeks ago this past Thursday. As so many of you know from personal experience, the loss of one who has been such an important person in one’s life brings with it many memories, thoughts and feelings. For me this was no different and while there is certainly a sense of gratitude for my father and the life he lived well, there is also the sadness in saying good-bye, at least for the time being, to someone with whom conversations and laughter and joy will no longer be shared as they have been in the past.
Over these recent weeks, however, I have also realized how my family and I are not alone in our loss. During this time, the support of so many parishioners who have reached out to us with their assurance of prayers and the words of sympathy has been a source of strength and consolation. Please know how comforting your caring concern has been and how grateful my family and I are for your goodness. With prayerful thanks,
Fr. Bill

7 FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT
Abstinence and Fasting
All Catholics who have reached their 14th birthday are bound to abstain entirely from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent. All Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive are bound to observe the laws of fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fasting means limiting oneself to a single full meal and avoiding food between meals. Two other light meals, which together do not equal a full meal, may be taken during the day.
Stations of the Cross
You are invited to join us in the Cathedral at 7:30 p.m. during the Fridays of Lent to remember Christ’s passion and death by praying the Stations of the Cross.
Lenten Parish Project 2018
Our Lenten project this year will once again assist Fr. Seth Awo-Doku’s church in Ghana. Materials explaining the project are available at the doors of the Cathedral and in the rectory office.
In the envelope you will find a flyer about St. Clement Catholic Church in Nuaso, in the Eastern Region of Ghana. This is Fr. Seth’s home village. The church was not completed due to financial difficulties. Your generosity last year helped continue the work and your donation this year will help complete the installation of the roof, concrete floor and vestry. Putting aside some sacrificial offering over the course of Lent and then making your donation will add to the meaning of your contribution as will the prayers you offer for the success of this endeavor. God bless you for your prayers and sacrifices. Checks may be made payable to St. Agnes Cathedral. Please be sure to write “St. Clement, Ghana” on the memo line and include your parish envelope number.
Lent and Easter 2018 Weekly Discussions Parishioners and guests are invited to gather once a week to discuss pertinent topics during the coming seasons of Lent and Easter: to learn and deepen our knowledge in the liturgies and sacraments of the two great seasons. We will meet Wednesdays from 9:45 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. in the Youth Room on the 2nd floor of the Ministry Building. Please note that there will be no meetings on March 14, 21, and 28th. Meetings will resume April 4th and conclude on May 16th. Coffee and refreshments will be provided. There is no need to register; join us as your schedule allows. Each session will feature a 10-15 minute presentation, followed by 30 minutes of discussions with our moderator, Fr. Seth.

Communion Guidelines The New York State Department of Health warning about the flu indicates that a bad strain is circulating. In addition, the flu vaccine has not proven as effective as usual. As a result of this and as a precaution, we ask for your cooperation during this cold and flu season concerning the Precious Blood when it is offered at Mass. If you have cold or possible flu symptoms, please refrain from drinking from the chalice.
For those who have gluten intolerance please know that low-gluten hosts are also available at all Masses. One should stop in the sacristy before Mass to arrange for this type of host to be consecrated. For those who have a medical condition involving gluten that prevents them from taking the host, a chalice with the Precious Blood will be ministered at the 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Masses on Sundays.

March, 2018 Dear Friends, When Jesus gathered His disciples to celebrate the Passover supper that would foreshadow His sacrificial death, He left them a great example of service when He tied a towel about his waist and washed the feet of the Apostles: “As I have done for you, you should also do.” (John: 13:15) Let His words and actions challenge each of us to be the Hands of Christ’s Mercy. Because of your generosity to the Catholic Ministries Appeal, individuals and families experience the merciful presence of Christ through Outreach and Catholic Charities’ programs that serve the basic needs of the poor, troubled, weak and oppressed in our community. Consider the multitude of children who are taught the faith through our Catholic schools and religious education programs. See how the boundaries of our Church extend beyond our own properties to our children benefiting from campus, young adult and youth ministry programs. This Appeal also supports our efforts in evangelization, liturgy and worship while ensuring that we have the funds and resources to support priests and deacons throughout their formation. May we all go forth this Lenten season renewed in spirit and in our commitment to respond wholeheartedly to Jesus’ call to be His hands and His instruments of Dramatic Missionary Growth. Thank you for your continuing generosity in supporting the good works of our Church. May God bless you with many graces during this holy season of Lent. Sincerely yours in Christ,
Rev. Msgr. William E. Koenig
11 FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT
Marzo, 2018
Rev. Msgr. William E. Koenig
