WELCOME to all our visitors. Coffee will be served in the hall after the 11.00 am Mass and you are very welcome to join us. This month coffee is served after Mass at Budleigh 29 July, 12 and 26 August. All most welcome. Children’s liturgy during the 11.00 Mass now focuses on our youngest children. I am asking that children in Year 4 and above remain in church during the Mass so that the little ones’ needs may be met more appropriately. The front righthand pews are reserved for those staying in church with their families, and Mass books have been provided to help them understand and learn about the Mass. Those not receiving Holy Communion during Mass are warmly invited to come forward for a blessing.
7 - 9 September 2018 The bishops of England and Wales are
holding a National Eucharistic Pilgrimage and Congress in Liverpool in
September 2018. Eucharistic Congresses are gatherings of clergy, religious
and laity which promote an awareness of the central place of the Eucharist
in the life and mission of the Church. The last International Eucharistic
Congress in England was held in 1908 when permission for a public
procession of the Blessed Sacrament was refused.
I was hungry, and you gave me food Matthew 25:35 From September 7th. to 9th, a National Eucharistic Pilgrimage and Congress will take place in Liverpool. Thousands of people – three from our parish, Eileen, Lesley and Paul – will come together to deepen their faith in the Holy Eucharist and adore Christ in his Eucharistic presence. In solidarity with those in Liverpool and in preparation for this national event, we will be offering six evening discussions in the summer when, as a parish, we can deepen our own personal relationship with the Lord in the gift he has given us of himself. I encourage you all to attend; in particular Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist should make every effort to come to these sessions.

Gospel Sharing on Thursday evenings throughout the year 7pm to 8.30pm in the Cloister and a warm welcome awaits you. The group will commence after the summer break on Thursday 6th September. Craft Club –This lively group meet regularly once a month, usually on a Saturday morning – next meeting Saturday 18th August & Saturday 15th September at 10.00 am The Men’s Lunch Club meet every 3rd Thursday of the month at the Powder Monkey at 12.30. ‘Ladies that Lunch’ once a month – watch this space for the next date!
Our Knit, Natter & Book Club Chatter Group are a very friendly lot and invite you to come and join them for a coffee
and to see just what they do each month. They generally meet on the 1st Monday afternoon of the month in Holy Ghost
hall at 2.00 pm. Just drop in or speak to Bernadette Simmons or Maggie Raby who will be happy to tell you about the
group.
FAITH & LIGHT next full meeting will be on 17th September CAFOD Coffee Morning on the second Tuesday of the month in Holy Ghost Hall UCM –Meetings twice monthly on the 1st & 3rd Thursday afternoons of the month at Holy Ghost, welcoming a variety of speakers. None of the tasks is arduous but each is vital for the system to work. Training for all posts will be provided and you would be part of a Team of sixty or so who are committed to providing the weekly news from the local papers for the Blind and Partially-sighted Listeners. Open Door Exmouth is looking for volunteers to fill various roles in the Cafe which runs from 9.30 to 3.00 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The 2018 Rainbow Fair for Christian Aid will be held at Tower St Methodist Church on Saturday 29th September from 10:00 to 12:30 a.m. This event always produces a colourful array of quality goods for sale at bargain prices and local churches are assigned a different colour for items to sell. This year the following colours have been allocated. VIOLET /PURPLE/ BLACK - Holy Family. Books, cakes and dvds are also required for sale on separate stalls. Contact

2018. Eucharistic
Congresses are

Eucharist in the life and mission of the Church. The last International Eucharistic Congress in England
was held in 1908 when permission for a public procession of the Blessed Sacrament was refused.
Our parish is sending three representatives to Liverpool; Paul Clarke, Lesley Aston and
Eileen Jenkins. I am most grateful for their dedication and ask you to remember them in your
prayers.
After consultation with Bishop Mark; to celebrate the Eucharistic
Congress in Liverpool there will be only one parish mass on the
weekend of 7 – 9 September. There will be no mass at 6.00 pm on
Saturday and no mass at Budleigh Salterton at 9.00 am. I encourage
the whole parish to come together for one celebration at 10.30 am in
the garden at Holy Ghost. Our mass will be celebrated outside of the
church as a witness to our
neighbours and passersby.
Please bring a garden chair,
or picnic rug, if you wish to sit
during the mass. After mass
we will be having a parish
picnic and I invite you to
bring your picnic for
afterwards so that we can be
together as an extended
parish family. Coffee and
juice for the children will be
provided. This mass is a
great opportunity for you to
invite a friend or relative to
‘come and see’ and be with
us.
CAFOD SHARE THE JOURNEY
On Saturday 4th August Holy Family parish took part in two walks. The first one
was from Holy Ghost Church, there were 24 walkers of different ages and
abilities. Richard Stranack read from the Share the Journey booklet and we
all joined in the opening prayer, this gave us something to think and talk about
on our walk.
We headed down Marpool Hill to Phear Park where we walked around the park
to the café, then we cut across the golf course (lucky no golfers at that time
of the morning) then followed the cycle path back to Marpool Hill.
We finished our walk by walking back to the church hall for some
refreshments.
Fr Philip was there to greet us on our return and when everyone had returned
he lead us in the final prayer. Many thanks to Angie, Bernie and Jim for the
refreshments.
In the afternoon the second walk set
off from St. Peter Prince of Apostles
church at Budleigh Salterton. We
started with the prayer and then
walked to the Green. There was 22 of
us and we walked as a group and
stopped under the trees for prayers
and a reading, along the way. Fr Philip
joined us at one of our prayer stops and
then wished us well as we continued to
walk around the Green, which we did twice.
Refreshments were provided by James and Claire Madden at their house close
to the Green, and many thanks to them for their hospitality.
During the two walks we managed 91 miles, thank you to all who took part.
Many of the walkers took the opportunity to fill in their action card, there are
still a few cards left in St Anne’s Closter if anyone else would like to fill one
in before we send them off.

Diocesan Pilgrims & friends celebrate the Feast of St. James with Bishop Mark On July 25th, the Feast of St James,
pilgrims who had journeyed on the Diocesan pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in May were invited to a reunion at Holy Ghost Church Exmouth. The pilgrims who attended the reunion came from a wide range of parishes across the Diocese with people travelling from as far afield as Camborne in Cornwall and Sherborne and Poole in Dorset. They were joined by friends and family members, parishioners from Holy Family Parish and Sisters from the Holy Family Convent. The evening began with Mass celebrated by Bishop Mark O'Toole who was assisted by Canon Keith Mitchell, Father Philip Austen and Deacon Terry Enright. After welcoming everyone, Bishop Mark told us that he was pleased to be using incense during the Mass but said unfortunately it wouldn't be quite as spectacular and dramatic as when we witnessed the Botafumeiro in action during the International Pilgrim Mass in Santiago!
Canon Keith delivered the uplifting homily and spoke on behalf of many of the pilgrims when he said he had become more interested in the life of Saint James and had felt closer to him since being on the pilgrimage. He reflected on what we had learnt while walking the Camino. He said that through the life of James we learn about discipleship and explained that discipleship is about faith and service. Canon Keith told us how James had preached the gospel to the people of Spain before returning to Jerusalem where he was martyred and reminded us of how the disciples of St James brought his remains back to Galicia by boat and carried them inland to be buried at Santiago de Compostela. When Mass ended Father Philip thanked everyone for coming and said he hoped we would have a good evening even
though we would not have the spectacular firework display that pilgrims would be having in Santiago. We then had an opportunity to pray at a statue of St James that Father Philip had brought back with him. After Mass there was a shared supper which had a Spanish theme. There were delicacies such as jamon serrano, chorizo, Spanish olives, patatas bravas and not one but two delicious Santiago cakes. It was a beautifully warm evening and as we sipped glasses of tinto de verano (red wine of summer) outside in the evening sun it was good to catch up with all the friends we had made on the pilgrimage before going into the hall for a delicious meal.
After supper we watched the premiere of the Diocesan pilgrimage to Santiago DVD which had been put together by Eric Howard ably assisted by his wife Philippa. The photos on the DVD reminded us of all the wonderful places we had been and Eric had thoughtfully added headings, beautiful music and inspiring quotations to the photos which served to personalise the DVD. Going on pilgrimage brings many blessings. One of which is sharing such a truly inspiring experience with others. During our pilgrimage to Santiago there was an amazing camaraderie among the group. At this wonderful reunion this camaraderie was evident once again. (Gloria Atkinson)
