I can’t begin to tell you how many people have
commented to me how much they enjoyed the Summer
Concert Series here at St. Catharine Church. Members of
the parish, as well as parishioners from other parishes and
individuals who belong to no parish at all, were united in
their expressions of appreciation of the high quality and
variety of events that made Summer of 2016 quite
remarkable here in Spring Lake. The extraordinary visual
beauty of St. Catharine Church and the perfect acoustical
characteristics of the church combined to create the perfect
setting for the memorable events. In fact, this is so much
so, that now classical groups throughout the State are
expressing interest in performing at St. Catharine’s. I
should add that we are always mindful that St. Catharine is
a vibrant and active parish church and consequently are
discriminating in the choice of musical events that are
allowed. .
These concerts, and many other exciting events in the
parish such as the Doors of Mercy, and the current,
Biblical Walk with Mary, and the Health Lecture series
arose from discussions at the parish Spirituality
Committee, and from the courage and initiative of
parishioners who were willing to take a leadership role in
promoting a broad array of events that promote a wide
array of presentations and events in the nurturing and
strengthening the spiritual life of the parish. We are
particularly grateful to our Music Director, Jared Tofaro
who was the prime mover and catalyst for many of the
Summer concerts, and indeed, who participated actively,
in many of them.
This Sunday afternoon, Michaline Manno is presenting an
another concert in her exciting series of concerts in
celebration of Today’s Youth., featuring a truly
remarkable and, even though still in high School in NJ, an
internationally recognized world class performer, Kaye
Otake. He is accompanied by Noreen Polera, whose
career has taken her to every major Music Center in
America as well as Europe, Russia, China, Japan and
Korea.
Even though the Summer is over, our concert series at St.
Catharine’s are by no means over! Check this bulletin
each week for news of new and exciting events at our
beloved and proud church.
Concurrently, Dr Jack Harrigan is continuing with his
Spirituality and Health series by presenting a holistic
integrated health lecture by Stephanie Schaick Bricken in
St. Margaret’s Hall on Wed, October 5 @ 7.00PM. Her
topic will be Diet and Yoga.
For further information about these events , please check
the announcements in this bulletin each Week.
FR. HARRY CULLEN
Noah’s Ark
Everything I need to know, I learned from
Noah’s Ark
1. Don’t miss the boat
2. Remember we are all in the same boat
3. Plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when
Noah built the ark
4. Stay fit. When you are 60, someone
may ask you to do something really big
5. Don’t listen to critics; Just get on with
the job that needs to be done
6. Build your future on high ground
7. For safety sake, travel in pairs
8. Speed isn’t always an advantage. The
snails were on board with the cheetahs
9. When you’re stressed, float a while
10. Remember the ark was built by
amateurs; the Titanic by professionals
No matter the storm, when you are with
God, there’s always a rainbow.
Congratulations St Catharine-
St Margaret Parish!

has been pledged to the appeal. And $169,536.69
has already been paid.

THE CENTER WILL HONOR ST. CATHARINE-ST.MARGARET PARISH ON
Wednesday, OCTOBER 5th
Our parish will be honored by The Center in Asbury Park at The Center’s Fourth Annual Red Heart Dinner at The English Manor, Ocean Township, NJ, on October 5th. The Center will award their Community Leadership Award to The Parish of St. Catharine-St. Margaret at that time.
The Center in Asbury Park has been serving people living with HIVAIDS since 1992. During those twenty-four years they have been able to live their mission because of the support of many individuals, faith communities, business establishments and other members of the community. They depend on the enthusiasm of the volunteers who are willing to go the extra mile to help serve the folks to whom they are dedicated.
Our parish has been a vital part of the work of The Center for more than 10 years. We have volunteers who are happy to hand out empty containers after week-end masses every month and to share their food and their time preparing and freezing meals. Every month our volunteers deliver hundreds of frozen meals to The Center, meals that are vital to The Center’s Meals To Go program which assures that their clients have a decent meal for the evening and for the week-ends when The Center is not open. As many of you know, we also donate a variety of toiletries and other personal items that make their lives more comfortable and healthy!
Our CYO members have been recruited to prepare the food containers for distribution each month. They are also chefs for The Center once or twice a year, a privilege that is highly sought-after by other volunteer groups. They plan the menu, purchase the food, prepare and serve it to the clients who come to The Center for Sunday dinner. And, oh yes, they clean up after the meals are prepared and served.
The following is a list of individuals who have been key volunteers on the St. Catharine team that works for The Center. Unfortunately, space does not allow us to list all the names of those who prepared the meals during our association with The Center.
Mark McNulty, former CYO leader, who made sure that we had our 1000 containers to hand out each month and who organized the CYO members to get the containers ready to be filled.
Joanne Campbell, who has taken the responsibility for finding volunteers to hand out containers on the 3rd week-end every month.
Dr. Rudy & Mrs. Pam Talerico and Ed & Bonnie Schneider, who ferried the food up to The Center each month.
Monthly volunteers handing out containers: Anne Butler, Maryanne Clayton, Virginia Cox, Katherine Keenan, Bernie & Marilyn Lauber, Pat McCloskey, Margaret O’Reagan, Cathy Roughley, Helen Wade and Janice McGoughran.
Dave Wright, Nancy Blanchet and members of the Social Concerns Committee and Msgr. Thomas Luebking, who championed our support of The Center throughout the years he was with us.
The English Manor is located at 1 English Lane (access going north on Rt. 35)Ocean, NJ 07712. Tickets are available at the Rectory, cost is $100 per person. If you have any questions call either Nancy Blanchet at 732-974-2361 or David Wright at 732-413-5409. We look forward to seeing you there.

Innocents Church, Neptune, and chaplain at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, has been chosen as the
