Whether you’ve been attending Faith Church for a long time or you are a fi rst time visitor, THE PAPER is here to help! Being a part of this church family is a partnership in growth, so we encourage you to be involved in 3 ways:

WORSHIP ON THE WEEKENDS

Gather with others to listen to a message from God’s Word, sing, pray and lift up the name of Jesus. Attend a service at one of our campuses. Faith Kids (infant-5th grade) is a safe place where kids can worship Jesus at their level. Don’t miss the opportunity to gather with others and worship each week. Invite a friend.

CONNECT IN COMMUNITY

Being a follower of Jesus was never meant to be done alone. Sole-ranger Christianity usually means discouragement and failure. God has provided a better way- Biblical community. Community keeps us encouraged, helps us build meaningful friendships, and most importantly, helps us grow as Christians. This may be through a Mini-Church, Bible study or Serving Team. No matter what your age, God does not intend for you to walk through life alone. Be real. Be known.

SERVE OTHERS

Join a weekend Serving Team at one of our campuses, serve in your neighborhood or around the world! God has gifted each of us to do something special. Discover the joy of serving.

THE BIG 3

Page 4: The Paper November Issue 10 Vol 2

HOW DID YOU FIRST GET CONNECTED TO FAITH CHURCH?

When we first moved to Hammond, we prayed for direction. First, God led us to Kenwood Elementary School (where Susan now works), and shortly after, the door opened for us to begin attending Faith Church Hammond at Kenwood.

WHAT HAVE YOU SEEN GOD DO AT FAITH CHURCH?

We have seen God’s Word become LIFE at Faith Church. His word is ALIVE! We are also blessed to sit under the pastoralship of Charlie and Anne Contreras.

WHERE DO YOU SERVE AT FAITH CHURCH?

We serve in prayer for the Hammond Campus and also at Kenwood for the KIDS HOPE MINISTRY.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY ABOUT WORSHIP SERVICES?

All we can think of is ...”Walls down. Roof off!” Worship ushers in the Presence of the Lord which brings liberty and freedom.

WHAT HAVE YOU SEEN GOD DO IN YOUR LIFE?

What have we NOT seen Him do? God has healed and restored our marriage, our children, and every other area of our lives for HIS GLORY. John 8:36 - “Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.”

CEDAR LAKE - REACH PROJECTIt has been fun to see progress at Faith Church – Cedar Lake. These pictures show the rooms taking shape with ceilings and walls going into place. Pray for the construction workers, volunteers and building team members that are pouring their energy into this building. And start praying now that we can spread the Good News of salvation in this region, one relationship at a time.

Total Pledges: $7,677,884Received to date: $2,040,627Praise God and thank you for your generosity!

The leadership of Faith Church would love to see any debt related to this project at a minimum tso your continued generosity will not just benefi t

the project but will contribute to changing lives for an eternity. That is cool to think about!

Thank you so much to those who have already completed their pledges or are on trackto complete their pledges on time. Thank you for getting the Reach Project started!

For those that are slightly behind or have not started, there is no better time than now to get started and be caught up in the near future. We are making progress on diff erent projects, but it would be great to fi nish the 1 year anniversary mark of the Reach Project in a very strong position as we work on the Cedar Lake Project and other campus projects. We will continue to pray for you and that God would bless you and your family with health, spiritual growth and what you stand in need of this year.

W hat is Justice? When we see things in the news of refugees, war, racism, tra cking – do we sit back and say ‘oh that’s sad’ or do we asks ourselves “what can I do”? Sometimes it all feels overwhelming;

so overwhelming it can feel crippling. It’s easier to give praise and accolades to the few that have focused their life’s work around the cause of Justice. And it no doubt is easier to sit and wait for someone else to do something. But what does God call us to? Each of us are called to pursue Justice. Over and over again throughout the Bible we hear the word justice. We hear God calling people out to ‘care for the widow and orphan,’ ‘set the captive free’ and love those ‘in the margins’. But, the word justice can have a variety of meanings. For much of an entire generation of Christianity, we removed the term justice from the church believing our role as Christ followers was to spread the Gospel and keep only that as our mission. While the Gospel is no doubt central to Christian mission, justice is very much a part of the Gospel, and we do a disservice to the cause of Justice if we try to remove justice from the Gospel. The fact that God sent His Son to this world to reconcile us to himself is the very act of justice. To summarize theologian Walter Bruggemean, the act of justice is to bring those on the margins back into participation in the resources of the greater community. Isn’t that exactly what Jesus did and is doing for us? But what does that mean? And what does it really look like for me? Whenever I fi nd myself in prayer asking , “God what do you want me to do,” Eugene Peterson’s paraphrase of the beginning of Romans 12 is almost always the verse that responds back to me:

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life – and place it before God as an o ering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fi t into it without even thinking. Instead, fi x your a ention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it.”

So, it seems pre y easy, right? Take your ordinary life…and give it to God. This means every person you encounter, every messy relationship you’ve been a part of, and every situation you engage regardless if you feel you have the ‘time’ or not. It means actively seeking those in the margins and drawing them into community. If you’ve been on the Christian journey for even just a li le bit, you know this is no easy task, and you will likely fi nd yourself in some precarious situations. But I trust without a doubt that those situations and relationships, acts of biblical justice, will be the ones that truly ma er in eternity.

How many checks in a month do you write? Do you ever come

to church on a weekend and realize you forgot your envelope

or check? Or you are out of town? The Stewardship Team of

Faith Church is excited to introduce a new, easy and convenient way

to give! You can simply and easily give using Pushpay for your tithes,

offerings and gifts to Faith Church. To get started, text “faithchurchonline”

to “77977” and you will receive a link to download the free app.

Pushpay currently accepts ACH (bank account gifts), Visa, Mastercard,

American Express and Discover. Please note: (The deacons do not advocate

you going into debt to give to the church. Be wise stewards of your resources

and be responsible). Once you are setup, you can give a gift in nearly 10 seconds!

You can also set up recurring giving with the Pushpay app; just

follow the instructions to do so. If you currently give through the ACH

electronic giving, we are leaving that function set up as it stands;

no changes will be made unless you contact us to do otherwise.

We realize that most of us write less than 5 checks per month, so a tool like

Pushpay is helpful in allowing the access and ability to give simply and easily.

THANKS FOR YOUR AMAZING GENEROSITY!
