PARKER It is with great sadness that we share the news our beloved Mr. (Rod) Parker passed away last week after a car accident. Everyone saw him daily as he tooled around the cafeteria and school with an incredibly friendly full-grin smile, often sucking on a lollipop. We will miss his wonderful laugh, the twinkle in his eye, his positive outlook on any situation, and his incredible willingness to always be kind and help others. He will truly be missed. Morning Car Drop Off- 7:45 - 8:25 Parents may drop off their children in the back of the school from 7:45-8:25. Students report to their classrooms at 8:20 to prepare for the day’s lessons. The Chaires playground opens most mornings at 8am. During inclement weather, students will wait in their ‘morning areas’ (art room, media center, or cafeteria) until they go to their classroom at 8:20. Parents, we WILL have the following early release days: December 17 th , 18 th & 19 th at 12:20PM. Our winter break will begin on December 22 nd and end on January 5th. School will resume on Tuesday, January 6, 2015. P.E. NEWS-FROM COACH SHAW Fifth Graders will be participating in our 5 th annual Jingle Bell Bowl game on Tuesday, December 16 th 1:30. Please join us if you can in supporting our 5 th graders as they will be displaying their flag football skills as well as their cheerleading skills. I hear that the best view for this game is from the hill. POPPERS NEEDED We need volunteers to pop and bag popcorn on December 18th to be served to the entire student body on their special movie day. Poppers can come and go as time allows from 8:45 until 12:00. If you are available to help with any or all of these days, please email the PTO board at [email protected]. MCBREARTY’S CORNER 2014-15 Leon County Spelling Bee Chaires Elementary Shool held our annual Spelling Bee program on Tuesday, December 2nd at 9:00 in the cafeteria. Our fourth and fifth grade class representatives did an excellent job with some rather difficult words. We begin by celebrating our first place winner, Alaina Massey, our second place winner, Stephen Jensen and our third place winner, Leo Wenhold. Alaina will represent Chaires Elementary School in the Leon County Spelling Bee. The competition will be held in January in the Leon High School auditorium. If for any reason Alaina is not able to attend the Spelling Bee, Stephen Jensen, as alternative, will serve as our representative. Congratulations to all of our fourth and fifth grade student contestants. We celebrate the following students: Zachary White, Alex Silva, Terri Anderson, D’Nai Acre, Javen Steele, Barrett Waller, Casey Caulkins, Emily Adams, Jacob Booeshaghi, Marissa Hutchins, Ramsey White, Danielle Ramirez, Austin Mozolic, Aidan Wright, Lucca Garrison, Lacey Burke and Alani Griffin. Way to go! 2014-15 Tropicana 4-H Public Speaking competition was held on Thursday, November 20th at 9:00 AM in the cafeteria. Once again the Garnet and Gold Toastmasters agreed to judge our fourth and fifth grade competition. We celebrate our first place winner, Kaitlyn Reed – “Songs that Annoy Me” and our second place winner D’Nai Acre – “My Pink Kingdom”. Kaitlyn will represent Chaires Elementary in the Leon County 4-H Tropicana Speaking Contest on Saturday, January 31st. Congratulations to all of our fourth and fifth grade student speakers: Alex Silva- “Sherlock Holmes”, Lacey Burke-“Blue Whales”, Marissa Hutchins –“Bullying”, Kiyerra Henry – “School Detention Pros and Cons”, Barrett Waller “Gymnastics”. Amelia Mohr –“My Family History”, Clayton Nash – “Getting Up on School Days Drama”, Brianna Amison – “My Super Heroes”, Emily Adams- “American Girls”, Haley Bechtold-“What’s Better Dogs or Cats”, Destiny Freeland – “Save the Albino Animals”, Aidan Kerce – “I am Spartan!”. Great job, students! CHAMPIONS NEWS This is the last week for Champions. There will be no Champions for the remainder of December. Champions will resume on Tuesday, January 13th. REMINDER: Students must be picked up at 3:45.
