Nederland Middle Senior High School News
Hello Panther Parents and students!
It has been another great week in the Panther Den! It has been exciting to walk through the halls and see our students demonstrating pride as well as hard work in the classroom. This past Wednesday, Mrs. Shambo, Mrs. Rippy, Mrs. Bradley and myself had the awesome opportunity to take 17 seniors to the Success Sum-mit (http://www.thes2.org/) in Loveland. The students heard amazing messages from the top motivational speakers from around the nation. At the conclusion of the summit, we challenged them to take the message and share it with the rest of the student body! The theme of the summit was CHASING GREATNESS! By the end of the summit it was changed to CHOOSING GREATNESS!
Here are a few of the key takeaways for us all to enjoy!
Tish Norman – “How do I chase greatness”
Develop a relentless determination to succeed.
Choose greatness
Get into a position to prosper
In your mind – “there is no option other than greatness”
Remind yourself you have to get into position to move forward.
Become a magnet of motivation
Powerful words – change our language – positivity
Examples: Social justice, inspiration, acceptance, peace, leadership, gradation, success, etc.
Words can either build one up or tear them down!
Are you the light in our school?
Culturally Competent student leaders
Celebrate our differences!
Be change agents
Choose your friends wisely
Make sure your friends make you better!
People come into your life for a reason, or a lifetime
Reed Barrett (the winner of America’s Got Talent – magician), besides doing amazing magic tricks he shard this message!
“SELF ADMINSTERED CPR” - Chase greatness, know what you have to life for!
C – Challenge yourself daily
P – Perform as your life depends on it
R – Repeat
A local upcoming band- SHATTERPROOF
Don’t let your dreams just be dreams! Persistence, hardwork, and effort will pay off!
Kevin Bracy “BRACE YOURSELF” – REACH FOR YOUR GREAT-EST DREAMS! It was so cool, that Mr. Bracy used REACH in his message!!! Reach for your greatness dreams through your education! He told students to do the following: Identify it!, Picture it!, Speak it!, Design it!, Study it!, Get around others doing it!, Find someone doing it!, Don’t stop! – get it!!
He also spoke about “EACH ONE, REACH ONE”. As a school we decided if we could reach one other person in our school with these messages, we would make a difference in the world! He outlined what he called “Plays of the Week”.
Monday - Make a Difference Monday
Tuesday – Text, Post, Speak Positive Tuesday
Wednesday – Win the Day Wednesday
Thursday – Live the Change Thursday
Friday – Healthy and Happy Friday
Saturday and Sunday - look up his website!
The students had an opportunity at the end of the summit to meet with the speakers as well as with two Paralympic goal medalists from Berthoud. It was an honor to be with these kids and we look forward to spreading the message!

What did you do last weekend?
Several of our Panther students were among the 43 volunteers that
helped with Saws & Slaws! They helped mitigate 7 properties in Bonanza
Estates, which included cutting down 320 trees, and removing 840 cubic
yards of slash that was removed and chipped! They also enjoyed a won-
derful pot luck lunch when they finished the work!

Counselor’s Corner
October is college application month. For seniors, this is a busy time of year, but it’s a great time for the rest of the school to think about their futures and make sure they are on the path to success. Middle level students should be focusing on developing good study habits, attending class consistently, and building the skills to advocate for themselves with teachers. High school students should make sure they are on track to meet graduation requirements and college entrance requirements, which can be different. Students are always encouraged to reach out to the counselor to discuss their future and how to keep opportunities open. Counseling tip: It’s never too early to start thinking about the future. This year, Nederland MSHS staff will be wearing college gear every Thursday to promote awareness about postsecondary opportunities. Start talking with your student about their hopes and dreams for the future, whether they are 6th graders just starting to explore or seniors starting to get accepted to colleg-es.
Senior Meetings September is senior meeting month! Ms. Shambo will be meeting with seniors to discuss post-secondary plans and graduation.
Please schedule your meetings now to get help for your future. Counseling Classroom Lessons
