SHOW WINNERS

The American Mid-winter Dog Show season of '55-'56 should go down in histo;y as the great Feather Weight Derby. At Philadelphia, New York and Boston, by a curious coincidence, judges picked a squirt of a 5 lb " Toy Poodle, named Wilbur, for Best in Show over the finest hounds, terriers, cockers, sporting and working dogs in the country .

The farce came to an end at the International Show in Chicago on April 1, when a boxer took top honors.

Many people, including the writer, have long been of the opinion that Toy breeds should be judged in Pet Shows along with Persian cats, Parakeets and Tropical Fish. P.C .A. TO JOIN A.K.C.

The Directors of the Puli Club of America have voted to join the American Kennel Club. This will happen when the A. K.C. determines that the Puli Club has qualified for membership by having held three annual Specialty Shows in three successive years and has met financial requirements .

This calls for an initiation fee of $250, one year's dues of $25 and a 2~ tax, the whole totaling a sum of $330 , A financial statement of the P.C.A. Treasury as of April 1, follows ~

On hand,Sept.30,1955 $272.04 Receipts from dues October to March 210.00

Total $482.04 Expenditures,Printing,Postage 48.92

Balance on hand $433.12 To withdraw $330 from our treasury at this

t ime and to meet the expenses of printing Puli News and those of our annual Show in September would, to put it mildly, leave us in a vulnerable position.

So, the Directors have suggested a most ingenious and sensible plan for augmenting the Treasury without putting any but a voluntary and at the mosta small burden upon any of the members.

This plan is a Joint Membership for another member of the same family at increased dues of only $2.50 a year. Where a member does not wish to increase his family membership, he is invited to make a donation of from $1. up.

To start the ball rolling, half a dozen officers and directors have already sent in an extra $2.50 for family memberships. With a total of 75 members, increased revenue in 1956 is expected to be well over $100.

MEMBERS IN THE N»>S

Miss Mary Devlin of Baltimore is taking over where Miss Avis Prior, another young Puli enthusiast left off. Mary and her Puli "Chief" appeared on Television Station WBAL for the Board of Education recently. Chief had his picture in the local papers . Mary was also guest speaker on the Puli at the Catonsville Kennel Club, and had her picture in the papers.

The cleverest Puli picture we have ever seen is one by the Gene Marchand Studio of Princess Woodsmoke and her seven puppies, owned by Mrs. Charles Anderson, each looking out a window and the front door of the Cedwood Kennels.

An unexpected heart attack prevented Dr. L.J. Meduna of Chicago from showing his valuable pair of Pulik at the International. We hope that the famous doctor i~ weii again.

Our Sympathy and Condolences from the Puli Club to the family of member Mathew Deback of Boardman, Ohio, who died suddenly as he was preparing to attend the Chicago Show.

NE.W MEMBERS Park Ave., N.Y., Lake Shore Drive, Chicago,

Beacon St., Boston have their Pulik and now we have a Puli parading aristocratic Brazilian Ave.

A letter from those good California members the Reynolds of Bakersfield gave us some Show news and also tells about the rapid growth of the California Puli Club. Mrs. Reynolds is the Secretary and our members Vezerian, Pearce and Byrne are either officers or directors.

Cllr only Canadian member, Mrs. R.D.~Lellan of 4962 Ponsard Ave., Montreal, P.Q. is a veritable mine of information on the history and characteristics of the Puli. Wish we could publish her article in Canadian Dogs on "How the Hungarian Shepherds Name their Pulik". She makes t his important point about Standards. The latest Puli Standards was adopted by the Federation Cynologique International in August 1954. It is Morded in French but has been translated into English by Mrs. MCLellan . A.K.C. is a member of F.C .I. The 1954 Puli Standards supersedes the standards published in the current A.K.C. Com-plete Dog Book.
