CANDY GRAMS

ATTENTION 6TH GRADE STUDENTS/PARENTS

When you have your child’s 11 year old well visit/physical, please obtain a Florida

Form 680 Certification of Immunization from your doctor and turn it in to our front

office. All students attending a Florida school must have proof of receiving their

Tdap booster shot prior to starting 7th grade. This will make the summer

transition from 6th to 7th grade much smoother.

K-5 TECHNOLOGY RESOURCE NEWS

Dear Parents,

I was inspired by Mrs. Lawrence’s Instagram for art resource and decided to

create one for technology resource too. Be sure to follow Ms.Davis_Tech to see

what students are learning. Please note, that in an effort to keep the account

secure, only those who send a friend request can view the page. So if by

chance I “deny you” then just direct message me letting me

know you are a parent and I will accept.

Thank You,

Joan Davis, Tech Resource K-5

MEDIA CENTER NEWS

Battle of the Books tryouts are coming in January! The Battle of the Books is a county competition based on Florida’s Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) books. Patriot Oaks has two teams, one for grades 3-5 and one for middle school. Tryouts for the 3-5 grade Battle of the Books team will be Tues-day and Thursday, January 15 and 17, at 8am in the media center. This team is sponsored by fifth grade teacher, Ms.

Fletcher. 6-8 grade tryouts will be the following week, January 22 and 24, at 8am in the media center. The middle school team is sponsored by Mrs. Hudson, librarian. Students are expected to attend both days of tryouts. They must also have already read at least six of the Sunshine State books to try out for the team. After teams have been determined, practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8am. The tryouts are modeled after the actual competition. Students are given 20 quotes from the 15 elementary or middle school SSYRA books and have to determine which book they are from. Teams consist of seven students. Many of our SSYRA books are available on our digital library, MackinVia, which can be accessed from the school links webpage. All of the books are available at the public library. See our POA media center webpage for more details about the program. The county competitions will be in the Spring. Questions? Please email [email protected].
