By:  Emily  B.

Cookies and Carols on December 19th was a success! First ,the students played instruments. K/1 played the instruments and sang “The Little Drummer Boy.” Miss Maureen’s class played “Jingle Bells” on the

bells. Fourth grade played “Good King Wenceslas” and ”Jingle Bells” on the recorder. Fifth grade played the

ukulele. They played “Clementine” and “Love Somebody.” All of the Middle and High School played the drums. Medieval Fairby: Tommy B.

The Paragon School went to the Medieval Fair in Gainesville The bus left at 7:30 A.M. We were on the bus and we watched the Princess Bride movie. The high school and middle school class went into separate groups: Mr. Malloy, Mrs. H, Mrs. Steger, Mr. Chris, Mrs. Jana, and Miss Leah. We got off the bus and entered the Medieval Fair. We started on the tournament field were they were jousting and we saw other entertainment. We saw the medieval fair's workplace where men and women were blacksmithing, sewing fabric, making medicine and more. We met up for lunch. We all saw Cha-ching, the bunny rabbit, and two magicians. We all went back into the bus and watched the Princess Bride all the way to school for dismissal. Raise the drawbridge because King Arthur is coming... for real?

Girls’ Weekend

Girls Just Want to Have Fun!!!by: Emily B.

Paragon'ʹs  first  ever  Girls’  Weekend  happened  on  February  8th  at  the  Altamonte  Hilton.    Seven  Paragon  girls,  their  sisters,  and  moms  came  to  the  event.    Miss  Leah  and  Mrs.  Leonard  had  planned  activities  for  the  night.    We  made  crafts  such  as  headbands,  hair  clips,  and  Valentine  t-‐‑shirts.    We  also  painted  our  nails.    We  all  went  down  to  the  pool  and  swam.    We  went  in  the  hot  tub  and  played

pool  games.    Mrs.  Wilkes  brought  marshmallows  to  make  S'ʹmores.    After  making  crafts  and  swimming,  we  set  up  our  beds,  popped  popcorn,  and  watched  the  movie  “Brave.”    There  were  girls  sleeping  everywhere!    There  were  people  on  beds,  on  couches,  and  even  on  the  floor!    When  we  woke  up  Saturday  morning,  we  went  down  stairs  to  eat

breakfast.    After  breakfast  we  went  back  to  the  pool  to  swim  and  play  more  pool  games.    After  the  pool  we  had  to  pack  up  to  go  home.    This  Girls’  Weekend  was  great!    I  can'ʹt  wait  until  we  do  it  again!

Around Campus

InternshipsBy Emily B. and Tommy B.

Mr. Maloy’s and Mrs. Steger’s class have been staying busy! Students have been going to the Orange County Library shelving books, music, and movies as well as keeping the tables and computers clean for people to use.

At the Welbourne Nursery, Paragon students work with the preschoolers to weed and water the community garden. At NYPD Pizza, students help to get the restaurant ready for business by folding boxes, cleaning tables and chairs, and

filling up the cheese shakers.

At Freedom Ride, students help keep the stalls clean and the horses groomed. They also get to ride the horses. On Friday, students help keep the YMCA clean for guests by washing windows, folding towels, vacuuming floors, and wiping down furniture.

Mrs. Jana’s homeroom class spends Friday afternoons at Northland Church interning. There students help distribute and stock office supplies, clean, and any other housekeeping jobs that may need to be done.

Interning at these places is is really hard work, but it is worth it because students are learning how to work in the real world!

Tony, Michael, and Daniel work together to fold, hang, and label table cloths at Northland.

Mary and Michael work with the preschoolers at Welbourne nursery to water the vegetable plants in the garden.

Dayton and Tommy sort through DVDs to put back on the shelf.

Pasidu gets the floors clean at the YMCA

Cory and Ethan ride on the bus to get the NYPD pizza.

A Trip to St. AugustineBy: Aaron B. & Miss Leah

The fourth grade, middle school, and high school went to St. Augustine. We left at 7am on a large bus. When we arrived in St. Augustine, we visited Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest wooden schoolhouse, and Fort Matanzas. We ate a picnic lunch on the grounds in front of Castillo de San

Marcos, but before that we stopped at Killwins Ice Cream Shop to eat ice cream. After lunch, we got back on the bus which drove us to Fort Matanzas. When we arrived, we had to take a ferry over to the fort. Fort Matanzas is a lot

smaller that Castillo de San Marcos. While looking around Fort Matanzas, some students saw dolphins swimming by.

Everyone had such a good time. Some students couldn’t stay awake on the ride home!

Dr. Seuss Day

By: Jonathan S.

Miss Maureen’s and Mrs. Jesse’s classes celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday. We wore pajamas to school. We read books and did activities that went along with each book. We made Green Eggs and Ham and Pink Ink Drink and then ate them. We made Lorax pots and planted plants in them. In the afternoon we watched the movie “The Lorax.” It was a fun day!

Facts about Dr. Seuss His real name was Theodore Geisel.

He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts.

His birthday is March 2, 1904, and he died September 24, 1991.

Dr. Seuss wrote and illustrated 44 children’s books. The first book was And to Think Thank I Saw it On Mulberry Street and the last book was Oh, The Places You’ll Go.

(Challenge: If you can list the other 42 books and turn it in to Miss Leah, you’ll get a 100s club ticket!)

Survivor Field Day

This year, Paragon had Survivor Field Day before Spring Break. Students were broken into different tribes and participated in a variety of relays and messy games. After a delicious pizza picnic on the field, the bounce house and snow cone machine were open for business. As always, Survivor was a ton of fun. Just see for yourself!

Prom

Paragon PromBy: Tommy Babia

Rollins College held an 80’s themed prom for the middle and high school students. There was 80’s music such as “Billie Jean.” Rollins College had decorated the room. First we ate dinner then we

danced. We taught some of the Rollins students the dances. Hours of dancing passed. I was so tired by the time I got picked up. We received decorated photo frames from Rollins College. My favorite things to do was to dance to “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson.

Logan and Keegan with Rollins Student, Taylor.

Who’s that rock star? Oh, it’s Lindsey!

Havin’ a Blast! Harrison, Sean, Dylan, Michael P.

Spring Break in Charleston

And We’re Off...Several middle/high students and their parents along with Mrs. Leonard, Miss Leah, and Mr. Chris spent spring break exploring the historic town of Charleston, South Carolina. The first few nights were spent in cabins at a county park where students participated in a ropes course. It was cold and windy, but everyone braved up and had a great time. The last two nights were spent aboard the USS Yorktown, an aircraft carrier that was used in several wars including WWII. Once on the Yorktown, the Paragon crew took a tour of the ship and had a marine biology class where a lot of cool ocean life was shown.

It was a bit cold and a little windy on our day trip to Ft. Sumpter.

On the ropes courseKeegan does not look happy about the sleeping arrangements on the Yorktown but these moms don’t seem to mind staying in the officers quarters.

Do you believe in ghosts? Paragon took a night ghost tour around Charleston, visiting several haunted (allegedly) buildings and graveyards.

The following paragraphs are answers from a Medieval Times Quiz:

“This is about the Vikings. The word Viking means to go raiding. The Vikings were raiders, they came , killed, stole and left. The Vikings were polytheistic which means they believed in many gods. The Christians were monotheistic which means believing in one god. The vikings then attacked costal monasteries. No Christians would attack monasteries because if they did they would go to hell but the Vikings were not Christian, so it didn’t matter to them. The Vikings attacked costal and river towns. The Vikings ship is called the long boat. It was engineered to take on rough water and shallow waters. The Vikings raided Scandinavian towns, too. The countries that make up Scandinavia are Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark. Very few Scandinavians were vikings. Then the Vikings stopped raiding and began destroying, and invading. An invader is someone who comes, kills, destroys, but then settles down there. The Vikings first invaded England, then North America, India, and China. The Viking leader, Harold Blue Tooth, united the Vikings. He was a Christian so his men became Christians. He also built a giant cross in his town. Finally, that is about the Vikings.”

-By Harrison S.

“The Vikings were polytheistic (means that they believe in many gods) raiders who took over coastal and river towns, killed many people, stole treasure and slaves, and went back home to Scandinavia. Some Scandinavian countries are Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark. Since the Vikings were polytheistic, they destroyed monasteries that belonged to Christians who were monotheistic (only believe in one god). Then, after the Vikings were raiders, they became invaders. Invaders are people who take over a river or a coastal town, go to someone’s house, kill the people who live in it, then live in that house forever (it sounds terrible). When they started invading, they invaded Ireland and England. Next there was a Viking king named Harold Bluetooth. Are you wondering why his last name was Bluetooth? Well, his last name was Bluetooth because he ate blueberries and got blueberry juice all over his teeth. The Vikings weren’t united, but Harold Bluetooth became a Christian and so did his men (same thing with Alaric and Clovis, they became Christian and so did their men).”

Kirby’s Return to Dreamlandby Aaron B.

There is two Kirby games I know of: Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby's Return to Dream Land. There are a lot of bosses in both games. In Kirby's Epic Yarn there are bosses. They are Meta Knight, King Dedede, Yin-Yarn, Mega-Yin Yarn, Hot Wings, Squashini, Fangora, and Capamari. Here are two facts about Kirby's Epic Yarn: first, you can't suck up enemies; and second, you can only hurt bosses by grabbing the red button on them. The bosses in Kirby's Return to Dream Land are Fatty Puffer, Galacta Knight, Goriath, Grand Doomer, HR-D3, Landia, Lor Starcutter, Magolor Soul, Metal General, Mr. Dooter, Robo Dedede, Whispy Woods. There are Mini Bosses too. They are Bonkers, Sphere Doomer, Water Galboros, Kibble Blade, Moundo, King Doo, Super Bonkers, and Gigant Edge. Here are some energy sphere bosses: Purple Sphere Doomer, Red Sphere Doomer, White Sphere Doomer, and White with blue eyes Sphere Doomer. The Super Elements are super sword, super fire, super beam, super ice, and super bonker. I like Kirby’s return to Dream Land since it has upgrades.

Creative Story Continued...By Chris B.

Chris obviously knew that the turtle was in the room. “I know what you’re thinking,” he said before turning around. “I take your little contraption out every two years to change the strings. Strings can’t last forever underwater, you know.” The turtle was relived! It went back into its tank to sleep the day away.
