ECKANKAR is a worldwide religion known to many as an ancient teaching. The ECK, or the Holy Spirit, works on our own behalf to expand our consciousness and help us see God in our everyday lives. Harold Klemp, the Mahanta, the Living ECK Master, is the leader of ECKANKAR.

Black Magic—White Magic

“Singing HU is not to change another’s state of consciousness, because that’s black magic. I know that’s cutting the definition of black magic very fine, but that’s how we see it in ECK. “Whenever you try to change another to your way of thinking, or your state of consciousness, through prayer or in some other way, that’s black magic. And in this respect, black magic and white magic are the same. Some people try to separate the two, but it’s changing somebody else’s life without his permission. That’s black magic, and it’s a violation of spiritual law. The violator must someday pay. “The ECK Masters work together. Jesus and the Mahanta work together. And Buddha. They work together. That’s how it is. It’s the followers who have trouble. They want always to have the most powerful master. People do the most horrendous things to each other in the name of God. They certainly can’t do those things, or wouldn’t do them, in the name of love. But that’s how it is. “I have seen people come to an Eckankar seminar and begin crying for no reason. Inwardly, as Soul, they have heard the Voice of God. And God has said, ‘I love you because you are a part of me, and I am calling you home.’”

The Sound of Soul Events

The Sound of Soul event is a gathering of interested souls to learn about the HU, a love song to God. We have two opportunities for you to attend. On the first Saturday of the month, October 6, at 11 a.m. the Sound of Soul Event is at the San Jose ECK Center. The same day at 2 p.m., it is at the Community of Infinite Spirit, 1540 Hicks Ave., San Jose. “As you sing HU, you’re simply saying, ‘Thy will be done.’ “We don’t try to tell God what to do. ECK Light and Sound Service

Carol du Bey officiates this month’s ECK Light and Sound service. The topic is “The ECK Masters: Our Spiritual Companions and Guides.” Many spiritual paths have angels, spirit guides, or masters. The highest form of a spiritual master is the Mahanta, the inner side of the Living ECK Master, Harold Klemp. The ECK Light and Sound Service is unique because of the HU. Also, during small group discussion, you can join in or simply listen. “Moment by moment, we in ECK try to live the highest principles of divine Light and Sound.” —Harold Klemp, Wisdom of the Heart, p. 149

Seminar and Sharings

The ECKANKAR Worldwide Seminar is October 26-28, in Minneapolis, MN. If you are unable to make it this time, there are two seminar sharings. The first is Friday, November 2, at 7:30 where we play the audio portion of the Klemp’s talk. The second, on Saturday, November 10, at 6 p.m. is a Harji dinner (Harji is a familiar name for Harold Klemp) and video of Harold’s talk at 7.

The ECK Way to Pray

“There are a lot of people who pray to God in the wrong way. They want others to do things their way, so they use prayer to control others and bring about their own wishes. It’s like a basketball team praying together before a game: ‘Dear God, help us win.’ Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the court the other guys are busy doing the same thing. What kind of prayer is that? “When you ask God for help, you can say, ‘I am aware of the situation and the problem, and I want your help in whatever way you see fit.’ This is the attitude of the ECKist. You look to see what you, yourself, can do to make the thing work; how you can overcome your own problem. “When you practice this, you are learning, unfolding, getting experience to become a mature Soul—someone fit to be a Co-worker with God.”

We are across Moorpark from Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, just west of Bascom Avenue. There is a small parking lot behind our

building; street parking is available on Moorpark and along the I-280 sound wall on Central Way, just one short block north of the Center;

and Valley Med has a free parking structure across the street.

By Car From the north, drive south on Bascom Avenue, cross over I-280 and

turn right onto Moorpark at the next traffic light.

From the south, drive north on Bascom, drive past Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, then turn left onto Moorpark at the traffic light. Note:

Moorpark Avenue becomes one-way east of Bascom, forcing you toward southbound 280. To drive around San Jose City College and get back to the ECK Center: turn right on Leigh, right on Fruitdale, right on

Bascom, and left on Moorpark.

Eckankar—The Path of Spiritual Freedom

Eckankar teaches that there is an audible life current known as the ECK, or Holy Spirit, that connects each of us with the heart of God. We can experience the ECK as Light and Sound.
