Today’s Worship Plan

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 “...Whoever sows sparingly will also reap also sparingly and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”… Please notice the offering box in the entranceway; where we cheerfully place our offerings in the collection box. Your contributions to God help us preach the Gospel here in Cedar Key, around the world and carry out works of benevolence to the glory of Christ our Lord.

Welcome Visitors and Members! We hope that your experience today will add something meaningful to your life in Christ Jesus. If you are new to the area and would like more information about this church, let us know. If you are just visiting our island community, then we hope to see you again.

Would you like to confess your faith in Jesus Christ and repent of your sins today? Come forward during the last song and we will assist you in obeying Christ as Lord – or let us know your desire some other time. We can arrange a time for your baptism into Christ. If you are a Christian and wandered away from home with the Lord, you may make your desire known and we will pray for God to forgive your sins, and fully restore you to Jesus Christ and joyful fellowship with other Christians.

Share the Good News! Free Bible studies and much more are available at our congregation’s web site Cedar Key Church of Christ. We also have the church’s weekly Bulletin on

our web site.

Bible question: What message did God tell Jonah to preach

to the people of Ninevah? (Jonah 1)

We Cannot Hide From God

But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord. (Jonah 1:3 ESV)

(Jonah 1:1-5) Jonah seemed to act with confidence that he could simply buy a ticket on a ship going away from Nineveh. He then casually went down into the hold to sleep.

(1:4) It is impossible to win by disobeying God! We can learn a great lesson from Jonah – learn all we can about God and do our best to obey his good teaching.

(1:7-8,9) God who created the energy behind the winds and waves, caused this storm. Even the sailors understood that Jonah’s disobedience was the cause of their suffering.

(1:12-14) Jonah understood that there are consequences for every act of disobedience – which is sin. I. Suffering is a trustworthy teacher when we obey God, rather than pitying ourselves. Self-pity only compounds the problems. Even our blessed Lord Jesus Christ had to suffer in order to make salvation a real possibility. (Hebrews 5:6-9)

II. The story of man’s relationship with God is tumultuous from the beginning. Adam and Eve struggled with their responsibility to obey God’s simple command: “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it your shall surely die.” (Genesis 2:17) One act of disobedience that goes without remorse and repentance, will cause harm to innocent people who know and respect the person.

III. On the other hand, one person’s act of obedience can lead an entire family to love and respect God as Creator and Savior. (Romans 5:17-19) Come to Jesus today in sincere obedience! DB
