The President’s Corner

My dear

Fellow

Olympians,

Greetings of Peace!

For the past two weeks

we had been undertaking

almost daily activities on

Peace. Most appropriately, for Rotary

International is celebrating World

Understanding in February! It is a

fitting theme for the month as we also

celebrate its 106th birthday on February

23.

What is most fulfilling is that we had

been doing these with and for our

sponsored youth and the New

Generations in general through two

parallel activities - the Global Peace

Festival with our Interactors, and the

Mr. and Ms. Rotaract 2011 with our

Rotaractors. Cont’d on page 2…

My dear Fellow Olympians,

Just this week we've seen and

experienced how our youth

partners in RC Makati Olympia

walked the talk. Taking

leadership through action, they

capped the Global Peace

Project with heart and hope

that the future is indeed bright

with our young leaders.

our club without even the thinnest

of line separating us from you, our

sponsored youth. I cannot imagine us

otherwise. In our meeting last week,

Dir. Ju was asked what other

support/help does the Service to New

Generation Committee still need to

keep it as vibrant always. You are on

top of our minds. If, in our little way,

we are able to help you become

the best leaders, then we would have

succeeded in helping the youth of the

world, too, for we are sure that you

will take care of them without our

asking you to.

My fellow Olympians, I enjoin you to

continuously work with and for our

youth. With them, we do not just have

a few hands, not even a thousand but

countless ones for PEACE AND

UNDERSTANDING...

Let there be Peace on Earth and let it

begin with US!

~ CP Rose

Your creativity, dedication and

commitment to service to humanity

through peace is most admirable. You

are our inspiration to go on and on...

Not to be outdone are our Rotaractors

who have been painstakingly doing their

best to promote Rotaract through

the Mr. and Ms. Rotaract. You have

given a new dimension in making

tangible to Rotary and the

community what Rotaract really

is. Truly, not only will the chosen

winner be the Ambassador for Rotaract

but all of you are... The club, community

and vocational activities which you have

done thus far are down-to-earth

examples of the learnings that we had in

our Rotaract Education program. They

are testaments of your unassuming and

peaceful capacity to go to the real world

and make it a better place to live in. You

are most appreciated and admired!

RCMO is most fortunate to have started

In the news also is how the

"People Power" in Egypt sets the

stage on a whole new

consciousness of what is peace

and freedom. And in whatever

crisis we may be in (be it

political, environmental, or

economic), an opportunity to

shift our paradigm towards our

higher selves in relation to a

Higher Power is NOW. Peace

starts from within; it is an

outcome of a relationship with

Our Creator. As we bridge our

way towards the Divine, the

Divine meets us halfway. As the

sun shines to all beings, so are

we, as we share ourselves to

friends and foes alike. After all,

as Rotarians, our motto is

Service Above Self.

Reaching within,

We have not done these in vain... Last

Thursday, in the Student Leadership

Seminar held at the University of

Makati, our very own Interactors

headed by District Interact

Representative Miguel Bermido who

is incidentally president of the Interact

Club of Umakians of Olympia, and

Mycz De Jose, president of the

Interact Club of Scholar ng Bayan de

Olympia, together with 8 other

Interactors from both clubs were

appointed Youth Ambassadors for

Global Peace by the Global Peace

Youth Corps, an international

organization promoting world peace

through the youth. Rightly so, for

these "kids" have organized the 11

activity-packed Global Peace Festival

without much prodding and

supervision.

We, your Mamita, Titos and Titas in

Rotary, are truly proud of you!

RCMO sponsors PHP roadshow at UMAK

Rotary Club of Makati Olympia, in its endeavor to develop the youth and help them in their education, sponsored the PHP Roadshow at the College of Computer Science, University of Makati last February 20 through its Interactors headed by Dir Miguel Bermido.

PHP or Personal Home Page, now known as Hypertext Preprocessor, is a computer term that is being promoted by PHP User Group of the Philippines since 2001.

In the past, students majoring in computer studies did an annual seminar to enrich their knowledge on the developments in their chosen field of interest. This year, the student organizers chose to have the PHP Roadshow as the main feature of the annual seminar.

The PHP Roadshow was attended by almost 300 college students from first to fourth year. Dean Campos and Prof. Alves were in attendance to support the students. CP Rose Acoba was also present for RCMO.

Mr. and Ms. Rotaract 2011 Finalists Do Vocational Service

In line with Rotary’s objective to help in the career development of Rotaractors, Mr. and Ms. Rotaract 2011 finalists got a glimpse of the operation of a pizza chain when they did the vocational segment of the contest last February 19. They worked at New York Pizza Palace and experienced what the food chain crew does. The contestants prepared pizza dough, served food to customers, acted as receptionists, worked in the counter and prepared order for delivery of the riders.

After the hands-on taste of the

work, they were treated to a sumptuous snacks of pizza, pasta and other food served at the pizza chain. New York Pizza Palace is owned by Rotarian Eric Orland. The activity was made possible by Rtn Alex Pambid who is the marketing manager of the said establishment. Both Eric and Alex are members of Rotary Club of Makati Olympia. New York Pizza Palace offers the best food at most reasonable prices while customers have the distinct New York experience in the heart of Makati.

Amount. Contributions of less than $100, while greatly appreciated, are not eligible for the promotional recognition match.

Q. Can a club treasurer donate online for an entire club? A. Online contributions can’t be made on behalf of another individual, club, or district. Each individual will have to personally contribute online to benefit from this promotion. Corrections will not be accepted for online gifts.

Q. Can clubs make online contributions? A. Only individuals can contribute online; clubs and districts cannot.

Q. Why is this only for online contributions? A. The goal is to encourage more Rotarians to contribute online. Online gifts are the least expensive contributions to process.

Q. Will I receive a tax receipt for my contribution? A. The goal is to encourage more Rotarians to contribute online. Online gifts are the least expensive contributions to process.

Q. Will I receive a tax receipt for my contribution? A. Donors will be able to print their own U.S. tax receipts at the time of donation. This is the only way the donor will be able to obtain a receipt; tax receipts will not be mailed to donors. Donors outside of the United States may not be able to receive tax benefits for contributing via www.rotary.org.

Q. Why 23 February? A. The date was chosen in honor of Rotary’s birthday. There is no specific time zone associated with the scheduled promotion. Every donor will be eligible to participate during the 24-hour time period of 23 February in their respective time zone.

Q. What amount is credited

toward my club’s APF goal? A. The contribution will count toward a club’s annual giving goal and per capita. Recognition Questions Q. If the donor is not already a Paul Harris Fellow and contributes $500 online on 23 February to the Annual Programs Fund, will the donor become a Paul Harris Fellow? A. Yes. The donor will receive a Recognition Amount of 1,000 for their $500 contribution, which would make the donor a Paul Harris Fellow. Once the donor reaches 1,000 in Recognition Amount and becomes a Paul Harris Fellow, any additional contributions will result in the equivalent in Foundation Recognition Points. These points may be used to name others as Paul Harris Fellows. Q. If the donor is already a Paul Harris Fellow and contributes $500 online on 23 February to the Annual Programs Fund, will the donor become a PHF +1 and will they be able to name someone else a Paul Harris Fellow? The Foundation Recognition Points will reflect the amount of the actual contribution made, so the donor will receive 500 Foundation Recognition Points. Since the Recognition Amount is used for personal Paul Harris Fellow recognition, the newly added 1,000 recognition amount will allow the donor to become a PHF+1. Unless the donor already has sufficient Foundation Recognition Points in their account, they will not have the 1,000 Foundation Recognition Points required to name
