welcome to the October issue covering catalunya.

"October" by Robert Frost

O hushed October morning mild,Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;

Tomorrow's wind, if it be wild,Should waste them all.

The crows above the forest call;Tomorrow they may form and go.O hushed October morning mild,Begin the hours of this day slow.

Make the day seem to us less brief.Hearts not averse to being beguiled,

Beguile us in the way you know.Release one leaf at break of day;

At noon release another leaf; One from our trees, one far away.Retard the sun with gentle mist;Enchant the land with amethyst.

Slow, slow! For the grapes' sake, if the were all,

Whose elaves already are burnt with frost,Whose clustered fruit must else be lost--

For the grapes' sake along the all.

Neanderthal man lived on a diet of seafood in the caves of southern Spain much longer ago than previously thought, new archaeological findings

show. Much as modern day man enjoys tucking into a plateful of seafood paella when visiting the Costa del Sol, Neanderthals living on the Iberian coast 150,000 years ago supplemented their diet with molluscs and marine animals. Archaeological examination of a cave in Torremolinos unearthed early tools used to crack open shellfish collected from rocks along the Iberian coast and found fossilised remains of the early meals. The discovery is the earliest of its kind in northern Europe and shows that early man was a fish eater in Europe some 100,000 years earlier than previously thought. The findings suggest that early coastal cavemen supplemented their hunter/gatherer diet of nuts, fruits and meat from animals such as antelopes and rabbits with seafood. A team of archaeologists from Seville University and scientists from the National Council for Scientific Investigation (CSIC) published their research this week after a lengthy investigation involving the scientific dating of fossilised remains from the cave. The Cueva Bajondillo on Andalusia's southern coast near Malaga contained remains of burned mussel shells and barnacles indicating that Middle Paleolithic hominids had collected and cooked the shellfish for consumption. The discovery suggests that Neanderthals in Europe and Archaic Homo sapiens in Africa were following parallel behavioural trajectories but with different evolutionary outcomes, the paper claims. "It provides evidence for the exploitation of coastal resources by Neanderthals at a much earlier time than any of those previously reported," said Miguel Cortés Sãnchez who led the Seville University team. "The use of shellfish resources by Neanderthals in southern Spain started some 150,000 years ago," the paper concluded. "It was almost contemporaneous to Pinnacle Point (in South Africa) when shell fishing is first documented in archaic modern humans."

Port Aventura to lose out to Paramount theme park. A lot has been written in the press of late with regards to the much publicised Paramount Pictures Theme

Park in Murcia. Every indication is that the 3.5 million sqm site will open for business for the 2014 summer season. The park is located just 15 minutes from the beach and

the resort of Puerto de Mazarron, and will be divided into differently themed zones each with movie-inspired themes, such as Star Trek, Titanic and Mission Impossible. There will also be a ‘Lifestyle Centre’ with 2 five-star hotels, 3 four-star status and a number of three-star hotels. The resort will also benefit from themed shopping malls, restaurants, bars and clubs, a 3'000 seat conference centre – and an open-air auditorium to accommodate 15,000 people. The impressive range of facilities, together with links to the region's motorway network, having a dedicated link to the country's AVE high speed rail network, and excellent connections to the regions new Corvera International airport (to open by 2012) have prompted Paramount Executives together with the regions Tourist board to forecast as many as 5 million visitors coming to the park every year. It expected that 3 Million of these visitors will fly into Corvera International airport, however, San Javier airport is located just 19km away and El Altet just 80km away, both with good links to many European airports. By comparison, Port Aventura, located south of Barcelona, looks set to fall victim to the success of the new Park. In an Industry which makes it's name on the most current rides and attractions, this makes the Catalan park, which opened for business in 1995, positively ancient. Worse still, Ryanair, the main airline serving the nearby Reus airport, has already cut operations amid on-going contractual disagreements with the Catalan Regional Government, and have even threatened to pull out of the airport altogether.

After Reus, the nearest airports to the theme parks are Barcelona at 110km away and Castellon at 130km away, however, the latter has attracted huge criticism in the press for being a 'white elephant' airport with very few connections. As things stand Paramount, which is set to become Europe's largest theme park, will relegate Port Aventura into 7th position. Paramount is also rumoured to have taken investors on board to extend the site further still within the next five years, whereas Port Aventura, who are owned by the la Caixa Corporation, simply state on their website that there is to be 'Investment and amplification', without giving further details. So what does this mean for the Port Aventura theme park? The general opinion of regular contributors on the themeparkreview.com forum is that the outlook is bleak. The community of theme park enthusiasts believe that the park has had it's day and that it would require a significant investment

to make Port Aventura attractive to tourists and Business delegates once again.

Man dies after being hit by a falling sofa in Barcelona. A 48 year old man died in Barcelona today, Friday, after being hit by a falling sofa last Wednesday.

He was hit by the sofa, which had been hurled from a balcony during a private move. It happened in Calle de Sant Pau in the Ravel area of the city, and the sofa had been thrown down by a friend of the victim from the second floor balcony above. It seems the friend below was trying to warn the friend above that there were people walking in the street when the piece of furniture hit the victim on the head. He was taken to hospital in a serious condition, but died there on Friday. The Mossos d’Esquadra regional police have already indicted the friend, 55 year old Antonio A.A. on a charge of negligent homicide. It appears that after the two men established that the sofa did not fit down their stairs, they decided to throw it off the balcony.

ACCEPTANCE OF THE EHICAs we have highlighted previously, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is designed to cover a person for necessary treatment in a public hospital whilst they are on a temporary stay in another country.Unfortunately, there have been cases in Spain in which a person has been asked to pay a deposit and/or sign a payment agreement at a public hospital despite producing a valid EHIC. In these cases the hospital wished to charge the cost of treatment back to the persons travel insurance, rather than accepting the EHIC. While taking out travel insurance is important, private medical insurance should not take precedence over the EHIC, providing the card is valid and being used in the correct way. If you, or someone you know, has had their EHIC refused at a public Spanish hospital, it may be possible to apply for a refund of any costs incurred via the Overseas Healthcare Team who can be contacted on 0044 191 218 1999.WEBSITE OF THE MONTHhttp://ec.europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/index_en.htmOur website of the month for September really has something for everyone. The Your Europe section of the European Commission (EC) website is specifically for those who are working, living and travelling within the EU. For example, if you want to know more about social security and tax matters as a worker in another EU country, or are looking for a job abroad, see the „Work‟ section. Or perhaps you want to know more about accessing healthcare whilst living or travelling in Europe? There's a great healthcare section too! And

while you‟re on the internet, why not also browse the rest of the EC website – the amount of useful information, including specific information for Spain,

may surprise you! KEEPING AN EYE ON YOUR PASSPORTDo you know where your passport is right now? For the majority, the answer is probably yes. But if the question was 'Do you know when your passport expires?' The positive responses would probably drop rapidly.'Being aware of when your passport expires is becoming increasingly important', says Andy Hamilton, Head of the Regional Passport Centre in Madrid. 'If you don't have a valid passport, and need to travel urgently, you'll have to pay for an emergency passport, which is an expense most of us could do without. We understand that it's not always easy or convenient to send your passport in to be renewed at the exact point it expires, which is why people can send in their renewal application any time in the 9 months before without losing any validity'.

'Over the next couple of years, customers will see some changes to the current passport service. We're working toward a single system where all persons can apply directly to the UK, something our customers tell us they want.During this period of transition, keeping an eye on when your passport expires will be really important to ensure you're not unduly inconvenienced'. More information on the upcoming

changes can be found on our website, http://ukinspain.fco.gov.uk.

TONY Blair has pledged to school his god-daughter in the ancient ways of dishonesty.Blair was chosen by media billionaire Rupert Murdoch to be godfather to daughter Grace after the elderly Australian feared he would not be around to teach her how to lie himself.A family friend said: "Like any father, Rupert wants his daughter to be taught how

to mislead people by someone who has a passion for it. He wanted someone who would watch over her, making sure she was being perceived correctly by the media, while encouraging her to be so dishonest that one day she might even believe her own lies."The friend added: "Tony is very devout when it comes to telling lies. He prays about it for hours. I sometimes think he is trying to see if he can lie to God. Or maybe he is trying to teach God how to be as dishonest as he is. It all points to a man who is still incredibly ambitious and I think that's what makes him such a wonderful role model for the children of billionaires."Blair's role as godfather emerged in a fascinating Vogue interview with Wendi Murdoch which also revealed that rich people are even worse than you could possibly have imagined. The article tells how Wendi is actually on her second stolen husband, thinks poverty stricken Chinese towns are 'funny' and obviously reckons that if she gets her children baptised in the river Jordan they will be better Christians than everybody else, in exactly the way Jesus had intended. The interview also revealed that Wendi's close friend Nicole Kidman thinks it is so important to have a 'moral compass', especially when accepting £20 million a year to play dress-up before putting your hair in a no-nonsense pony tail and visiting people who don't have any food.

can it be true??? Blair to teach Murdoch's daughter how to lie +Busy parents ask schools to beat their children

ALMOST half the parents in Britain are so busy they need schools to beat their children for them.A survey found that 49% want the return of caning just so they can be sure their child will be in pain for at least 10 minutes a day.Jane Thompson, from Stevenage, said: "I work in a very busy office and often don't get home until seven or eight, especially if I've been for a drink. By that time my kids are in their bedrooms and I don't get the chance to

hit them with a stick. I feel that we are all missing out, as a family. It would be really helpful to me if their teachers could find some incredibly thin excuse to beat them as hard as they can."Martin Bishop, from Peterborough, added: "Unfortunately there was a scheduling snafu and I wound up with two children that clash with meetings and tennis, so I simply don't have time to teach them how to be functioning members of society. I would gladly pay a tax deductible monthly fee just for the peace of mind that they are being hurt in public by a professional."The move has also been backed by parents who are too busy watching television all day.Emma Bradford, from Doncaster, said: "I've got a stick, but they have to be within a three foot radius or I'm wasting my valuable time. The schools should be doing this anyway. It's a disgrace."Meanwhile, with 20% of pupils also supporting the return of corporal punishment, Britain's S&M industry said it could finally make long-term investment plans.

LIVE PRESS HOROSCOPESa more detailed horoscopes can be found on our web site

CAPRICORN Dec. 22 - Jan. 20 Someone

shows you something new. You think again about

travel and studying cultures and religion. You

look for the strange and different to broaden

your realities. Yet you realize they (and you) must

also be useful. Artistic endeavours emerge and

someone older has a message. Listen carefully.

AQUARIUS Jan. 21 - Feb. 19 -You can shift that

barrier encountered with another into harmony

if you stand aside and have the intention to make

real contact and connection. It's time to be with

friends, or groups that reflect your sameness

of mind. Whatever you do out in the world

will be successful because you realize how to

compromise.

PISCES Feb. 20 - Mar. 20 -So much new is

needed for you to feel safe. Usually safety doesn't

include change for you but everything's in need

of change and they could make you feel lethargic

and unable to move. First, get a haircut to get

the hair out of your eyes, then some new shoes.

That emotional problem, filled with multiple life

changing choices will soon be clear.

ARIES Mar. 21 - Apr. 20 -It's now time to

begin the follow through on plans which were

just ideas before this month. There were many

suggestions but the energy wasn't appropriate

for implementation. Also, a new sense of self

is emerging. Go slow with this one. It's still in

formation. You'll stabilize slowly.

TAURUS Apr. 21 - May 21 -Careful with

those you care for. Allow no sense of martyrdom

to enter into your tending. Instead, use the

words "love and gratitude" so you don't undo

your devotion to be of service. Something’s

unresolved concerning past friends arise. Allow

this to occur as it will pass and then drop away.

GEMINI May 22 - Jun. 22 -A dynamic flow of

creativity is about to overcome you. Harness it in

and begin some type of artistic endeavour that

only you would enjoy. Think about what this may

be. Then assemble agendas, schedules and the

appropriate tools so that you can be productive

and ready to work when the impressions begin.

Use colour, light, music, dance, and drama.

CANCER Jun. 23 - Jul. 22 -Your sensitivity has

heightened and therefore the need for more

beauty and order, harmony and organization is

needed in your life. You scour neighbourhoods,

seeking to find architectural balance in gardens to

apply to your own. Suddenly your home becomes

more peaceful and you feel at ease. This hasn't

occurred in years. An inner quiet descends.

LEO Jul. 23 - Aug. 23 -Careful once again with

digestion, with overindulging on either too much

food or not enough of the correct types. Your

life needs amusement, entertainment, perhaps

a love affair or a few children. There is no need

for self-discipline (except on the food side). What

creativity that others do will enhance yours?

VIRGO Aug. 24 - Sep. 23 -We are aware that

you need to lead others in your professional

life. A caution here though. Lead with kindness

and care lest everyone turns their backs on you

and you feel helpless and alone. This may be

a challenge. It takes courage to lead with the

heart. Review your techniques and renew your

important friendships.

LIBRA Sept. 24 - Oct. 23 -You too must be

careful of foods ingested, especially too many

sweets. Carbohydrates are allowed only in

small portions, one a day. This is practical and

should not be overlooked, as your health is most

important for how well you perform expected

tasks.

SCORPIO Oct. 24 - Nov. 22 -Now is the time

to make peace with everyone, or at least with

those you're afraid to make peace with or you

feel there is no possibility. Follow the Pope's

model and extend your hand, offer kindness and

forgiveness, apologize and be forgiving. Harmony

and unity result. Not only between you and

others but within your heart.

SAGITTARIUS Nov. 23-Dec. 21 -Tending to

family and your home environment seems so

important that it's hard to leave the home and

be out and about in the masses. You're seeking to

beautiful your surroundings because this beauty

creates inner security. It also creates the harmony

you need. Everything's fast moving around you.

news from our california correspondent (norfolk) 'All Quiet on the Eastern Front ’ By your celebrity DJ, you can listen to him live on www.futureradio.co.uk Thursday mornings 10..00-12.00

It cannot have escaped your attention that, at the beginning of August, we had a spot of bother back here in the home country. Gangs of yobs took to the streets breaking into shops, looting and destroying property. Thankfully this activity was limited to some inner city areas and was not the start of a major civil war despite what you may have read in the Daily Mail. We were danger-free locally as youths planning to break into ‘Poundland’ to “get shiny stuff” were overcome by a bout of apathy and stayed

at home instead. Seriously though, the riots on the streets shocked us all, but I cannot say it came as anything of a surprise. Sadly a number of victims, some

of whom lost their lives, were immigrant business people who, unlike the yobs, have not forgotten what the meaning of ‘work ethic’ is all about. We can look at a variety of causes for the situation, poor parenting, a failing education system, lack of jobs etc. There was a certain irony in the situation for high on the list of items to be ‘liberated’ was designer sportswear and electrical goods. Almost all of this would bear the label ‘Made in China’. Our reliance on a market place saturated with goods from this part of world means that jobs in a once great manufacturing industry have disappeared. Until the European Community wakes up to this, puts a block on far eastern imports and reinvigorates its own industrial potential there is little hope in balancing our books. Why people venerate the likes of Sugar and Dyson I never understand. All they did is take their manufacturing facilities and jobs out of the UK.Back to local matters the fear of technological change has struck yet again. Much of the County is out of range of high speed broadband, and was likely to remain so for

some time, until a plan was hatched by an organisation called Wispire planned to make use of the numerous church towers to install local Wi-Fi transmitters. Money would go to maintaining our magnificent church architecture. Good deal all round you might think, but no, along comes an organisation called Electrosensitivity UK who feel that electromagnetic waves cause their members to suffer from “sleep problems, headaches, tinnitus, dry

skin, chest pains and stress”. I thought all these symptoms came as a result of having a Coalition Government! My faith in human nature was restored when I recently took a visit to the Latitude Festival. Following on from Glastonbury there has been a growth industry in Festivals in the UK. Latitude is a relative, slightly upmarket, newcomer. Being held close to the posh resort of Southwold, it has been given the reputation of catering for festival goers who frequent Waitrose. As well as music there were sectors designated to drama, dance, comedy

and literature. There was even an area devoted to knitting. How British is that? What I found inspiring was that somewhere around 25,000 people of all ages on what must have been the wettest day ever were enjoying themselves without aggravation, loutishness or drunken behaviour. In fact the only police presence

I saw all day was a solitary plod with a speed gun on the main road out of the site. Thanks to the helpful signals from motorists warning others his time was wasted. Maybe there is hope for the UK after all.

Dog of the month

Hello, I’m Leon,I’m a shepherd type of dog and I live in the animal shelter Alberg d’Animals in Camarles. I’m about 3 years old. I was brought in by the police, so they don’t know where I came from and how old I am exactly. I have been in the shelter for a long time now, so it’s time for me to show people what a nice dog I am. I am very sweet and funny. I’m very good around other dogs, but being on my own isn’t a problem either. I’d love to run around here, and play with the other dogs in my kennel. But I can be a loner as well. If you have time to cuddle with me, I will immediately lay on the ground and show you my lovely belly. My fur is very soft and my tail is very fluffy. Do you have a nice place for me with a fence around or can you walk me daily, so I can get my daily exercise? Are you interested in giving me a better life; I’d love to invite you to come and meet me. news hounds & more..." Animals also have personalities" BY Dr. Ronald Rosenfeld D.V.M.

The personality of an individual can have a big effect on your life. Some people are outgoing and sociable, while others find new stressful situations can be harmful to their health and wellbeing. Increasingly, scientists are discovering that animals are no different.A new study led by Dr. Kathryn Arnold from the Department of Environment of the University of York has added important experimental evidence showing that animal personalities are reflected in the profile of oxidative stress. The research is published in the Journal of Experimental Biology.Dr. Arnold joined Katherine Herborn, a graduate student at the Institute of Biodiversity, Animal and Comparative Medicine at the University of Glasgow, to classify the personalities of 22 finches. They tested each bird’s reactions to a novel situation by adding a brightly coloured cookie-cutter to each greenfinch’s food bowl, and timing how long it took for the birds to pluck up courage to approach the food. The researchers found that the birds who were bolder only took a few seconds to overcome their fear, while the more timid birds took up to 30 minutes to get close to their food.Dr Arnold and Katherine Herborn also measured the greenfinches’ motivation to explore by attaching an intriguing object to the birds’ perches and timing how long it took them to land next to it. However, there was no correlation between the birds’ courage and curiosity. The researchers then measured the birds’ damaging reactive oxygen metabolite levels and their defences against them. Comparing the bird’s blood oxidative profiles with their personalities, the team found that the most timid birds had the highest levels of damaging oxygen toxins and the weakest defences, so they suffered more oxidative stress than braver individuals. Also, the scientists found that the most curious birds (those that approached objects fastest) had better defences against oxidative damage than less curious greenfinches.Dr Arnold wants to extend the work to establish how personality traits affects birds in the wild. She says, “Neophobic birds – those that are afraid of new things – may suffer high costs of oxidative stress and die early because they paid these physiological costs, but they might also be less likely to be eaten by a predator because they are more wary than bolder birds.”

Harbor, a coonhound hailing from Colorado, has earned the Guinness World Record for biggest ears on a living dog.Harbor, the eight-year-old black and tan coonhound, measured in having a massive ear-span; his right ear measured 13.5 inches, and his left ear measured 12.25 inches. The length from ear-end to ear-end was 25.75 inches! ...That's over two feet! While Harbor's earspan is the record for any current living dog, he does not, unbelievably, have the longest measured ear-span on a dog ever. That record belongs to a bloodhound named Tigger, whose ear-span measured 27 inches! Dr Ronald Rosenfeld. D.V.M. + Happy Halloween and be careful with those treats for your pets.

London Olympics 2012London (Stratford) will be hosting the Olympic Games in 2012. You may not know that many of the famous events, which go to make up this spectacular event, are to be especially altered for 2012. A copy of these changes has been leaked, and is reproduced below: OPENING CEREMONYThe flame will be ignited by a petrol bomb thrown by a native of the area in the traditional dress of balaclava and shell suit. The flame will be contained in a large overturned police van situated on the roof of the stadium. THE EVENTSIn previous Olympic Games, East London's competitors have not been particularly successful. In order to redress the balance, some of the events have been altered slightly to the advantage of local athletes. 100 METRES SPRINT Competitors will have to hold a DVD player and microwave oven (one in each arm) and on the sound of the starting pistol, a police dog will be released

from a cage 10 yards behind the athletes. 110 METRES HURDLES As above but with added obstacles (i.e. car bonnets, hedges, garden fences, walls etc) HAMMER Competitors in this event may choose the type of hammer they wish to use (claw, sledge etc) the winner will be the one who can cause the most physical damage within three attempts. FENCING Entrants will be asked to dispose of as many stolen goods as possible in 5 minutes.SHOOTING A strong challenge is expected from local men in this event. The first target will be a moving police van. In the second round, competitors will aim at a post office clerk, bank teller or Securicor-style wages deliveryman. The traditional .22 rifle has been replaced in this event by a choice of either a Glock handgun or sawn-off 12-bore shotgun. BOXING Entry to the boxing will be restricted to husband and wife teams, and will take place on a Friday night. The husband will be given 15 pints of lager while the wife will be told not to make him any tea when he gets home. The bout will then commence. CYCLING TIME TRIALS Competitors will be asked to break into the University bike shed and take an expensive mountain bike owned by some mummy's boy on his first trip away from home. All against the clock. CYCLING PURSUIT As above, but the bike will be owned by a visiting member of the Australian rugby team, who will witness the theft.MODERN PENTATHLON Amended to include mugging, breaking and entering, flashing, joyriding and arson.SWIMMING EVENTS All waterways are currently being tested for toxicity levels, once one is found that can support human life, swimming events will be organised, please note that the Synchronised Swimming event for this year will comprise of dropping acid and watching all the funky ripples on the pool, the specific musical support to this event will be provided by

"The Verve." THE MARATHON A safe route has yet to be decided. MEN'S 50KM WALK Unfortunately this will have to be cancelled as the police cannot guarantee the safety of anyone walking the streets of East London, especially anyone that appears to be... mincing THE CLOSING CEREMONY Entertainment will include

formation rave dancing by members of the Stratford Health in the Community anti-drug campaigners, synchronised rock throwing, and music by the Ilford community choir. The flame will be extinguished by police riot water cannon following the inevitable pitch invasion by confused West Ham organised hooliganism club. The stadium itself will then be boarded up before the local athletes break into it and remove all the copper piping and the central heating boiler."

Churchill the

dog treated for depression over constant

accusations of lyingA source close to the nodding bulldog from Churchill insurance’s adverts has revealed

that the iconic star has checked into a clinic to deal with severe

depression. The condition is believed to have been brought on by the fact that nobody seems to believe a word he says, or take his tales of

celebrity encounters and extreme sporting activities seriously.

‘Churchy’s family seem to have turned against him, he doesn’t know why but they just laugh at him every time he tells them what he’s been up to,

and accuse him of making it up.’ said the source, ‘Things have got so bad that he’s taken to carrying a video camera with him everywhere he goes, and filming even the most mundane activities, like a curry with a friend, but they’re not interested. They just ignore him when he tries to show them evidence that he’s telling the truth, and it’s been getting him down for a while. I’m starting to really

worry about him.’This is not the first time that Churchill has

suffered from psychological problems. When he first came to prominence in the mid-90s he initially struggled to deal with the spotlight of fame and the media intrusion, and developed a form of

agoraphobia, only feeling comfortable in the house or sat on the parcel shelf of a car, where he

would sit for hours, happily nodding to himself, and occasionally muttering ‘ooohhhhhh yes’.

With the help of extensive counselling he overcame those problems and began to live life to the full, making celebrity friends, such as Roy Walker& Rolf Harris, entering tug-of-war contests and

taking part in extreme sporting activities including sky-diving. But when he told his family about his exploits they refused to believe him, thinking that he was making it all up in order to get attention.

‘I know some of what he’s done sounds implausible,’ continued his friend, ‘who wouldn’t be sceptical

if you told them that you’d landed in a porcupine farm during a sky-dive? Why would anybody

farm porcupines anyway, can you milk them or something? But the thing that has really got to him

is that he has video evidence of it all, and they still don’t believe him.’

When questioned about the story and confronted with the suggestion that her actions may be the cause of Churchill’s problems, his owner and co-star Amanda Wilcox replied ‘I wouldn’t believe

everything he says – just the other day he claimed that he was in a downward spiral of depression with no positives in his life, no end in sight, and was considering taking a massive overdose of

painkillers.’

YOGA FOR ALL- Releasing Tight Hips

out, the left foot in. Raise the arms parallel with the floor. Lift your upper body upward toward the ceiling. Gradually move your entire torso to the right, slowly but surely moving your right hand toward your right ankle. Take care not to lose your balance. Touch your right knee, shin, or grasp your right ankle. Lift the left arm straight upward. Remain here for several deep breaths. Come up and repeat the yoga pose on the left side.Wide-Angle Seated Forward Bend Yoga Pose - Upavistha KonasanaSit in Dandasana (Staff Pose) with the legs straight forward and pressed firmly together. If sitting on the floor in this way is difficult, place the hips on a folded blanket to gently tilt the hips forward. The back should be straight and the palms should press firmly into the floor. Now use your hands to open your legs wide apart. Slide your buttocks slightly forward, again using your hands to help you to widen the angle of your legs. Place the hands directly behind the hips, flat on the floor, and sit up straight. Rotate your hips and flex the feet so that the knees and toes point up toward the ceiling. Push from behind your body so that your torso angles very slightly forward. If you have the flexibility to do so without arching the back, place your hands on the floor in front of you. Move forward gradually, only as much as you feel comfortable. Breathe. Stay in this yoga pose for at least a minute.

Tight hips are uncomfortable. They're also very common. They affect almost everybody, regardless of their walk of life. These basic

yoga poses can help you to release the tension, open up those hips and also protect the lower back in the process.

First, try to do some exercise to increase heat in the body prior to doing yoga hip-openers. Living in the Campo my favourite is walking. This warms the muscles and allows them to stretch more readily during the hip-opening asanas (postures). Remember that women will naturally find these yoga poses far easier to complete. Men should exercise more caution in the postures and take care not to push themselves too far, especially when just beginning a yoga practice.

Reclining Bound Angle Yoga Pose - Supta Baddha KonasanaSit on the floor. Place cushions on either side of your knees. Lie back, with your back supported by cushions or folded blankets. Allow your knees to splay outward so that your legs form a diamond shape and the soles of your feet are flat against one another. If necessary, use your hands to assist yourself in attaining the proper alignment. Your knees should be resting on the cushions. Relax completely. Breathe. Remain here for at least a minute in this passive stretch.Triangle Yoga Pose - TrikonasanaStand in Tadasana, or mountain pose (standing position with arms by the side of the body). Now spread your feet wide apart, at least a metre. Point the right foot

© LIVE WELL FROM YOUR GARDEN By Clodagh and Dick Handscombe Practical holistic gardeners and authors living in Spain for 25 years.

Our garden in Spain has evolved over twenty five years from a holiday garden that was Dick’s fitness camp in which to recover from a hectic working life to, after early retirement, a holistic therapeutic garden that helped him recover emotionally and physically from cancer and then live well in a green oasis. A densely planted garden insulated from a surrounding urbanisation that after ten years had taken over the original surrounding woodlands and agricultural lands.

In time the garden was supplemented by being guardians of an abandoned allotment and olive grove to increase production of ecological vegetables and fruit, and produce ecological extra virgin cold pressed olive oil. Now with most of the agricultural lands of the village being abandoned with the air and waterways full of weed seeds and increasing thefts vegetable growing has been moved back into the garden in raised beds and a Ten-Tub veggie garden as explained in Growing Healthy Vegetables in Spain. With respect to the sun we have from the first year ensured that trees and hedges provide plenty of summer shade and also sheltered winter sitting out spots. Naturally it is a chemical free garden.

A couple of years ago we gave a well received presentation to a U3A conference on Health for The Retired explaining how well we lived from our garden especially avoiding the need for medications and vitamin supplements. At the same conference a Medical Doctor was extolling the benefits of taking 200 plus anti aging tablets a day. The Doctor did not get much support for this idea, particularly with the high cost involved, but friends suggested we

expand our talk as a book.

This Dick has now done and it was launched in September. The title of this new book is Living Well from our Mediterranean Garden. Wellness in terms of a healthy garden environment, eating well from a diverse range of ecologically grown produce rich in beneficial vitamins and minerals, eating gastronomically but not gluttony, and improving ones financial position by producing most plants in the

garden from cuttings, plantlets and seeds. We now only need to purchase artisan cheeses wine and Jamon Serrano to enjoy healthy Spanish style Mediterranean cuisine to the full. The book is written as a case study and handbook for healthy living that could be of interest to all with a property in a Mediterranean climate situation. One of the reasons Dick wrote it is that at almost 75 he finds it difficult

to remember what we have learnt about the vitamin and mineral contents of various fruits, vegetables etc.. They are listed in the book.

Although only small the 40 page book is packed with interesting information and useful ideas and only costs 3.90 Euros. Postage is always expensive in Spain so have a launch offer of 5 Euros including postage and packaging. If you are interested send an email to [email protected] or a letter with a payment of 5 Euros, stamps, cheque, postal order to Clodagh Brown, PO CORREOS 572, Javea 03730, Alicante. The book is a natural follow up to the author’s quartet of books Your Garden in Spain, Growing Healthy Fruit in Spain, Growing Healthy Vegetables in Spain and Apartment Gardening Mediterranean Style.

INTERNATIONAL JUDICIAL ASSISTANCE- LA PRESTACIÓN DE

SERVICIOS DE ASISTENCIA JUDICIAL INTERNATIONAL by Carlos Prieto Cid

The increasing internationalization of economic activity and therefore of our society is causing a widespread outbreak of international issues in daily life and therefore also in the life of the local court proceedings. It is nowadays very common that in a judicial procedure one or both parties are domiciled abroad, or that it is necessary to obtain judicial evidence beyond our borders along the process. When the lawyer has to formalise a power of attorney or an affidavit to certify the validity of foreign law, or when a judicial warrant is necessary for a notification to the parties abroad or for evidentiary purposes in another country, all stages of judicial proceedings may have an international element that complicates the whole procedure or, in extreme situations, makes it virtually impossible to implement.

In Europe, cooperation between member states on justice and internal security is one of the three pillars of the European Union, along with the economic community and the common foreign and security policy. Moreover, since the entry into force of the Amsterdam Treaty, the Community provisions can be applied to each of the areas concerning police and judicial cooperation as contained in Title VI of the European Union Treaty, although this "communitarisation" of the rules for police and judicial cooperation has to be agreed unanimously by the Council and ratified by all Member States. Although common

European justice has never come to be developed as much as the economic and monetary union or inter-governmental coordination on foreign policy and security policy, in recent years developments in this area have become more popular and it is no longer so strange that the courts use these resources to carry out their daily activities. However, we find many difficulties for the court officials to use the European way of judicial cooperation effectively. The principle underlying the European regulations of these matters of judicial cooperation is to enable judicial officers of the member states to cooperate with each other using simple pre-established protocols, provided that, ex officio or request, that international action is considered necessary by the judge. However, without proper coordination between lawyers experienced in international litigation and the attorneys and the court officials involved, today the international judicial cooperation would be very inefficient, because the

existing protocols are not always known or respected by the court officials, this provokes an avoidable

waste of time and resources during the process.

If we find such a lot of inefficiencies in the framework of the European Union, what could be said about the problems caused by international judicial assistance outside the scope of

European cooperation? Therefore, the procedural experience of international

law firms with European or global orientation, such as the ones joining the

network EUROJURIS INTERNATIONAL can be of great help when planning international processes,

not just for the parties involved, who can enjoy a much more efficient service of representation in court, but also for other lawyers, who are eventually in these situations and can count on their support and specialist external advice to avoid being caught in unexpected procedural problems when entering the complex field of judicial processes initiated in their own country, but that require the processing of incidents abroad.CARLOS PRIETO CID – LAWYERwww.tarracoiuris-abogados.com

Can I stay with you? Gaddafi asks Blair

COLONEL Gaddafi has asked Tony Blair if he can stay in his guest room for a while. The Libyan dictator expects to be homeless or dead by lunchtime but would accept the offer of safe passage if the former UK prime minister can put him up until he gets something else sorted out.As fierce fighting surrounds Gaddafi's compound the leader was desperately trying to track down Blair on his mobile phone to check if the guest room had ensuite facilities and how they should arrange the whole laundry, food thing.Amid the deafening sound of gunfire and mortar explosions, Gaddafi told Blair's voicemail:

"I'm thinking either we take it in turns to do a wash or I do the laundry and you do the cooking."Shouting until he was hoarse, Gaddafi added: "I'm not into this whole separate shelves in the fridge thing. I'll just eat with you guys and bung in twenty quid or something, yeah? "Happy to stay in the London house obviously, but would be great if I could use the big place in the country as well. I HAVEN'T PLAYED TENNIS FOR AGES."But Blair's spokesman said: "It's always really awkward when someone gets the wrong end of the stick, isn't it? Tony always said Colonel Gaddafi could use the guest room as long as he wasn't under indictment for crimes against humanity."Plus, he's going to be away for a few days so... you know."The spokesman added: "He's not being a dick about this, but Colonel Gaddafi clearly thinks they are better friends than they actually are. Tony is genuinely sorry if he gave him the wrong impression."It would actually be a lot better for everyone if he could just stop phoning us and get shot in the face."

CHANNEL 4's How To Look Good Naked is a ruse for the secretly straight Gok Wan to involve himself with female body parts, it has emerged.

The host's on-screen persona as a benign, intergalactic panto dame was blown apart when a production runner found copies of Nuts magazine, a Jeremy Clarkson book and six cans of strong, overtly masculine lager in Wan's on-set trailer.

It has now been revealed that Wan's real name is Roy Hobbs and that he previously worked not, as he had claimed, in fashion but was a Derby-based plasterer and haulage contractor known for his

prowess in pub fights.

A Channel 4 source said: "Alarm bells should've rung when Gok recently pitched How To Look Good While Mud Wrestling Naked And Drenched In Baby Oil, Gok's Super Gay Fun Times In The Women's Showers At A Leisure Centre and Gok's Totally Harmless And Very Camp Intimate Breast Massage.

"Clearly this deception is shameful but the show rates well and Gok consistently delivers boobs so I expect we'll just press on."

Housewife Nikki Hollis, who appeared on How To Look Good Naked, said: "When Gok cupped my breasts and referred to them as 'fabulous womanly bangers' it was a real boost to my flagging self-esteem.

"Now I know that he's basically Sid James in Dior glasses I feel less positive about the experience.

"My husband will be furious. He's a closet gay who really fancies Gok."

Apple Day october 21stApple Day is an annual c e l e b r a t i o n , held on October 21 each year, of apples and orchards. It

is celebrated mainly in the

United Kingdom.

Apple Day was initiated by

C o m m o n Ground in 1990 and has been celebrated in each subsequent year by people organizing hundreds of local events. Common Ground describe the day as a way of celebrating and demonstrating that variety and richness matter to a locality and that it is possible to effect change in your place. Common Ground has used the apple as a symbol of the physical, cultural and genetic diversity we should not let slip away. In linking particular apples with their place of origin, they hope that orchards will be recognized and conserved for their contribution to local distinctiveness, including the rich diversity of wild life they support.

Apple Day events can be large or small, from apple games in a garden to large village fairs with cookery demonstrations, games, apple identification, juice and cider, gardening advice, and of course many hundreds of apple varieties.

More recently Apple Day has evolved into a weekend event, usually taking place on the Saturday and Sunday closest to Oct. 21st although a number of venues now simply use the term Apple Day for their own events which can take place anywhere in the second half of October.

The first Apple Day was on October 21, 1990 in Covent Garden, London.

Health benefits from apples

We all know that old adage about an apple a day keeping the doctor away, but did you know that apples are fabulous for beautifying our complexions? They are! The alpha-hydroxy fruit acids in apples are the greatest for sloughing off old tired skin so the fresh skin underneath can be revealed, and their pectin firms and tightens saggy skin–as well as healing inflammations and smoothing fine wrinkles.

Apples are mentioned in ancient literature as magical fruits sacred to many goddesses. Now it’s autumn and the apples are round and ripe, ready to be picked so you can be a Goddess of Beauty with their help. Find out apples’ secrets here–and learn why they’re also great for your teeth and breath!

For Teeth and BreathThe pectin in apples helps to neutralize food odors, so the next time you have garlic or onions, have an apple for dessert! The fibres also serve as a natural dental floss.

Honey of an Apple Glow MaskThis one really wakes up a dull complexion and it’s fun, too! This formula combines the magical apple with sweet honey, a great humectant–meaning it will bring moisture to your skin.

INGREDIENTS1/2 cored apple

2 tablespoons honey1/2 teaspoon dried sage

Pulse ingredients in a food processor, combining well. Refrigerate for at least 10 minutes. Apply this mixture to a clean face. With your fingertips, begin gently patting your face. Continue until the mixture feels very, very sticky–this will bring the blood to the surface of your skin, making it glow. Rinse with warm

water.

To Reduce Wrinkles and InflammationGrate an unripe apple and apply to clean skin

to heal and improve the appearance of fine wrinkles or inflammation. Allow pulp to remain on

CHILDHOOD eating disorders may be caused by giving them plate after plate of food that is just shit, experts have claimed.Researchers found that children as young as seven are looking down at their breadcrumbed abattoir scrapings and deciding to watch television while chewing a sock.Professor Henry Brubaker, of the Institute For Studies, said: "Many people seem to think that eight year-olds are flicking through Vogue and comparing themselves unfavourably to a six-foot Amazon modelling shoes on a yacht."I think it's more likely that they're being served dinners that don't change even slightly from kitchen to toilet. Say what you like about kids eating their own bogies but at least they're not full of hydrogenated salt and trans-mashed poultry beak."Eating disorders have also risen sharply amongst wealthier families in direct correlation to the decline in parents telling their offspring that they can either eat their dinner or wear it like a hat.Tests showed that middle-class children who were not indulged as fussy eaters soon regained their appetite when told their tasty meal of fresh meat and vegetables would be spending the evening either in their stomach or rammed playfully into their Xbox. But the majority of cases still came from amongst the country's poorest children, where the average meal's main source of vegetable was the ketchup in the 'serving suggestion' photograph.Brubaker added: "Anyone doubting our findings should pop into their local Iceland. It's like a David Cronenberg film about a psychotic vet."

Childhood eating disorders may be caused by shit food, say experts

STAFF at McDonalds are to spend the next three years patiently explaining that the number next to the photo of the food is the calorie count, not the price. The burger giant has introduced the calorie information for God knows what reason, but insists it is absolutely vital that customers understand what these numbers mean.A spokesman said: "Our dizzying array of top quality pulped animals already causes long hold-ups at the tills. We need to find a quick and efficient way of explaining that a Chicken Legend does not cost £535."Because when we've done that we will then have to explain what a

calorie is to someone who doesn't know what a cow is. And that takes blooming ages."He added: "We have set out a three year timetable because you know as well as I do that most of these simians will need to be told at least 500 times."Emma Bradford, who emerged from the Doncaster branch of McDonalds smeared with cheese and mayonnaise, said: "They said it were number of cows in it or summat."I thought cows were the size of dogs, but turns out they must be the size of peas."Bradford's companion, Roy Hobbs, who has had it explained to him 15 times, thus far, added: "Am not payin' four hundred and ninety pound for a burger."

Supermarket forced to withdraw advert featuring happy customers

A TELEVISION advert for Tesco featuring cheerful humans roaming its aisles is misleading, a watchdog has ruled. The 30-second commercial shows relaxed, attractive humans strolling around the supermarket, selecting products in a carefree and composed manner with no underlying murderous intent.A spokesman for the Advertising Standards Authority said: "To portray any supermarket visit as anything other than unbridled misery is a foul distortion."The reality is angry, dishevelled humans dragging their post-work carcasses around coldly-lit aisles, torn between their hatred of the massive soulless food containment unit and each other as they clutch their trolleys with white-knuckled hands."The typical demographic mix is single men in work clothes buying cereal for their dinner, parents of marauding children buying them Pixar DVDs in the vain hope they'll chill out for five minutes, and weirdos."A visit inevitably ends with joining the slowest-moving queue and obsessively edging the plastic toblerone-esque divider thing ever-closer to the preceding shopper's stuff in the vain hope it'll somehow accelerate the process and get you out the door a nanosecond

more quickly."A Tesco spokewoman said: "Our customers are treated well and occasionally smile. Our stores are not like Lidl where everything's on palettes like an aid shipment."Or Waitrose, where the self-satisfaction permeates the air with a greenish organic haze."Basically they are no more inhumane than most aspects of modern life."

FIRA DEL BANDOLER I FESTA DEL REMEI D’ALCOVER07/10/2011 - 9/10/201 Alcover has an important link with banditry since the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries when it was in the heart of bandit activities. This activity in Alcover had two opposing sides: the gizzard and the vultures. The rise of banditry coincides with a time of economic revival of the village, which translates into an architectural and urban transformation, cultural, economic and, among other things, the party and traditional culture. For further information: www.alcover.catSITGES FILM FESTIVAL 6-16 OCTOBER 2011SITGES International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia is the number one fantasy film festival in the world and represents, at the same time, the cultural expression
