The propertyThe Old Bank House was lived in by the local banker, which is how the property purportedly got its name. Built in 1626, with more recent additions in both the 18th and 20th century, the house occupies and enviable position in the heart of historic Woodstock.

The present owners restored the house in 1996, and in 2000 extended the property, when amongst other changes, they created a magnificent conservatory at the rear of the property, which now incorporates the Kitchen/dining room with and informal seating area leading to the Family room beyond.

Arranged over four floors, The Old Bank House has a wonderful flow, and benefits from an extremely flexible layout which also includes a substantial annexe to the rear of the property, ideal for either extended family or for an au pair.

To the rear of the property, there is a beautiful walled garden which is predominantly laid to lawn, with several main focal points for entertainment including; a large sun terrace, perfect for al fresco dining in the summer, as well as an outdoor hot tub. There is also an old well, which has now been covered over with toughened safety glass.

LocationThe historic town of Woodstock boasts a wide range of amenities including restaurants, pubs, two banks, a multitude of shops and independent boutiques as well as the world famous Blenheim Palace and the magnificent grounds which is a UNESCO world heritage site. As a Woodstock resident you are given a free pass to the estate which can be enjoyed all year round.

Woodstock is also a significant cultural centre, holding a number of literary, sporting and music festivals.

With only 8 miles to Oxford and 11 miles to Chipping Norton, Woodstock is also ideally located for access to the Cotswolds and London, with a regular bus service to the city and also Oxford Parkway, which provides access to London Marylebone in approximately 56 minutes on the new Chiltern line.

There are an excellent range of schools including Marlborough School in Woodstock itself with Oxford’s independent schools on the doorstep, including The Dragon School and St Edwards to name but a few.
