A long-term decision!

The selection of a boiler for your heating is a decision for the next 15 to25 years. The lifetime fuel costs foryour heating system amount to manytimes the purchase cost of the boiler.

It is therefore very important to makethis choice very carefully. These days,the difference in efficiency levels, i.e. in the consumption of heating oil,is considerable. For this reason youshould not only be guided by the priceof the boiler, but above all by sub-sequent consumption.

“Aren't all new boilers economical”,you may ask yourself. The energy utilisation of a new heating boiler is,of course, much improved when compared to old-fashioned models.

costs, the protection of energy reserves and reduction in CO2emission. Only the condensing technology can achieve this almostcomplete energy utilisation. This involves cooling the flue gases untilthe water vapour contained in thegases condenses out. The energy created in this operation isused as heat for heating.

Up to 18 % energy savingcompared with other lowtemperature oil heating boilers

The Energy Saving Regulations (EnEV),which have been in force since 2002,limit the permissible energy demand inbuildings. In addition to the structuralconditions, the heating system is alsotaken into account. Various equipment technologies are evaluateddifferently.

The DIN standard (DIN 4701-T10) usedas the basis for the EnEV makes itmore than clear: Oil low temperatureboilers in room air-dependent operation (without LAS) consume up to18% more energy than oil condensingboilers in room air-independent operation (with LAS).

This large difference was found usingnew heating boilers. When replacingboilers, the energy savings can be asmuch as 40% or more.

The CO2 and NOX emissions are reduced correspondingly and thusreduce the environmental load.

The ROTEX A1 oil condensing boiler isfar ahead of conventional low andextremely low temperature heatingboilers, above all in the efficient utilisation of energy.

For this reason ROTEX stopped production of low temperature boilersin 1999 and concentrated all its effortson the development and manufactureof condensing boilers.

The extra investment, which is normally only small, involved in thepurchase of an oil condensing boiler issoon paid back within a short period inenergy savings. After this you aresaving hard cash.

10 year guarantee againstcorrosion failure

An entirely new boiler technology wasdeveloped for the ROTEX A1 boilerbody. This included the consistent useof modern high quality materials andthe use of corrosive materials such asblack steel or grey cast iron was avoided.

The boiler body itself is an aluminiumdie casting. This has directly cast-incorrosion-resistant stainless steelpipes through which the heating waterflows.

ROTEX has been awarded a Europe-wide patent for this technology, referred to as TWINTEC®.

The spherical shape of the boiler body,which is also patented, ensures thecompact layout, unrestricted conden-sing utilisation directly in the heatingboiler without the need for additionalheat exchangers, and simple cleaning.The spherical layout also permits goodmetallic contact between the stainlesssteel burner chamber and the coolingfins on the boiler body. This makessure that the burner chamber is cooledin a controlled manner. This directlycooled burner chamber very effectivelyreduces the formation of nitrogen oxides (NOX).

Reduced water contentsaves energy

In summer, when you do not need heating, your heating boiler operatesonly when hot water is required. Thelower the weight and the lower thewater content in the boiler, the lesserthe energy required for heating in theboiler and the lesser the energy lostwhen topping up the hot water cylinder later after the loading processhas been completed.

The ROTEX A1 has very low watervolumes, i.e. - 3 l in A1 BO 20i, - 4 l in A1 BO 27i and - 5 l in A1 BO 35i and thus the additional cooling lossesare kept to a minimum.

It thinks for you - The electronic controlsystem

The control management of the ROTEXA1 is performed by a fully-electronicdigital control system. There are twodifferent versions:

- Alpha 23R- Theta 23R

1. Alpha 23R

The digital control system Alpha 23Rhas a clear four digit display which isintegrated in the upper section of theROTEX A1.

All the fundamental functions are selected using two rotary switches.The values can be adjusted simplyusing push-buttons.

The Alpha 23R has three time pro-grams for the control of the heatingcircuit and the hot water preparation.The time programs are pre-programmed; one of these can beadapted to the individual wishes ofthe user. In addition, the Alpha controlsystem is prepared for controlling amixed circuit.

The heating flow temperature is controlled depending on the outsidetemperature. The control system itselfsenses winter and summer and switches on or off the heating systemon or off as required.

2. Theta 23R

The fully-electronic digital controlsystem Theta 23R meets the highestof demands. The display shows valuesand parameters in clear text. The mainoperating element is a selector knobwith which the operating modes, time-programs and operating parameterscan be set and quickly and simply altered.

Fundamental system parameters canbe viewed and adapted by the heatingengineer.

The heating flow temperature is controlled depending on the outsidetemperature. The control system itselfsenses winter and summer and switches on or off the heating systemon or off as required.

The Theta 23R has individually adaptable time programs for simplecontrol of the heating circuit and hotwater preparation. It can also be usedto control an additional mixed heatingcircuit. This requires that only themixer, pump and sensor are pluggedinto the control housing. It is also possible to connect a hot water secondary circulation pump.

The Theta 23R control system can beextended by room controllers and thermostats which conveniently control and monitor the heatingsystem.

Oil blue burner - With responsibility for theenvironment

All ROTEX A1 oil condensing boilersare fitted with oil blue burners. Thistype of oil burner ensures optimum oilcombustion with the lowest possible

levels of toxic emission. This can beseen with the nakedeye by the transparentblue flame colour. The very low level ofexcess combustion airleads to a further increase in efficiency.The ROTEX oil blueburner also operatesvery quietly so thatthe ROTEX A1 canalso be installed in an

occupied room without any reservations.

Suitable for all types of heating oil

The ROTEX A1 can be operated withall types of heating oil that are available commercially. The currenttrend is clearly towards low sulphurheating oils. From 1st January 2009conventional high sulphur content heating oil will attract an additionaltaxes.

We would recommend the exclusiveuse of low-sulphur heating oil eventoday to protect the environment. Inaddition, your heating boiler is mucheasier to clean.

A plastic pipe suffices forthe exhaust gas

An inexpensive exhaust gas pipe con-sisting of a plastic tube is sufficientsince the condensing technology provides typically low exhaust gastemperatures. This can be incorpo-rated in an existing installation shaftor an old chimney. This takes away the dread of chimneyreplacement since all ROTEX A1 con-densing boilers can operate with avery small nominal diameter of just 80 mm.

The air comes from above

All ROTEX A1 condensing boilers operate in room air independent mode(LAS). The burner sucks the necessarycombustible air directly from the outside through an installation shaft or a double-walled flue gas duct.

This has many advantages:

■ The boiler room does not need a ventilation opening to the outside and thus does not cool

■ Lower energy consumption ■ Additional energy saving is in

flue pipe by preheating the combustion air

■ Dust, solvents, detergents etc. are not drawn in by the burner. This means that the room can also be used as a laundry, workshop or similar application

■ Also possible for in roof space mounting

To protect the environment

All A1 oil condensing boilers arebelow the emission values laid downby the authorities in accordance withRAL UZ 46 for the"Blue Angel". Thecondensate producedin the boiler and thesubsequent flue gassystem on the ROTEXA1 is directed to theintegrated conden-sate preparationsystem. The conden-sate is cleaned andneutralised there.This ensures that itcan then be poured directly into thewaste water system.

ROTEX VA Oil – an important system component

Up to now copper pipe was often usedfor the connection between the oiltank and the heating boiler. This canlead to considerable problems, notleast when using bio oil. For this reason TOTEX has developed a plasticoil supply pipe VA Oil.

VA Oil is the first oil supply pipe madeof a combination of plastic and alumi-nium (PE/Al) to be approved by theDIBT. Irrespective of the type of heating oil being used, VA Oil remainstotally neutral and thus guaranteessafe and continuous operation of theoil boiler with no failures.

ROTEX A1 - Ideal for all floorheating systems

Low water temperatures are oftenrequired for hot water floor heatingsystems. Since the ROTEX A1 usesTWINTEC® to operate smoothly withfeed temperatures down to room temperature without the use ofmixers, it is particularly suitable forthis type of instal-lation. Even with oldinstallations using oxygen permeableplastic pipes with possible corrosion

and sludge formation problemsthe ROTEX A1 proves to be anexcellent solution.

The ROTEX System 70 permitscombination of floor heating and radiators without additional costs.The special construction of theDUO heating pipe

means that only one water distributionsystem and one common pump arerequired.

This saves on investment costs andintroduces considerable energy savings in the operation of the system.

ROTEX A1 - Ideal as a replacement boiler in existing systems

The ROTEX A1 is an ideal replacementfor older boilers. The increased flexi-bility when incorporating in existingsystems, its low weight and smalldimensions and the simple renovationof flue gas systems ensure that this isthe specialist for this application.

With the ROTEX A1 you will save heating costs and you will benefit theenvironment - at the same time ensuring maximum heating and hotwater comfort.

Now oil can be stored in thesame room as the boiler:

Reclaim the existing heating oil storage room for other uses e.g. as ahobby room, for a sauna or similarapplication. In combination with thedouble-walled safetytank ROTEX variosafethe oil can be simplystored next to the boiler.And this does not needany brickwork or oilcollection trough underneath. Buildingregulations permit the storage of heating oil in quantities up to 5.000 litres in the boiler room. A distance of 1 metre must be main-tained between the heating boiler andthe safety tank if no radiated heat protection is provided. The plasticcladding on the ROTEX A1 oil condensing boiler is an effective radiation protection and does notexceed a temperature of 40 °C at anypoint. This is certified by a TÜV report.This confirms that a minimum separation between the oil tank andthe A1 boiler of 10 cm is sufficient.

For handling purposes we recommenda minimum distance of 40 cm.

Solar energy utilisation isbecoming more and moreimportant.

For this reason a simple combinationof ROTEX A1 and solar energy collection was taken into account atthe development phase.The ROTEX A1 condensing boiler canbe directly combined with the ROTEXSolaris solar energy system. Thisensures that solar energy is used bothfor hot water preparation and for support of the heating system.

This extensive use of solar thermalenergy provides additional energysavings and thus ensures the bestsolution in regard to economic evaluation within the framework ofthe Energy Saving Regulations (EnEV).

The solar storage cylinder ROTEXSanicube is characterised by corrosionresistance and optimum water hygiene(tested by the University of Tübingen).

Energy cost savings

The energy consumption of a heatingsystem is directly dependent upon theinstallation consumption figure ep. This means that the energy costs ofthe installation are directly proportional to the installation consumption figure ep. In the example, the scope of energysaving using the technology of theinstallation is clearly demonstrated. In this way the ongoing energy consumption costs of a heating systemusing a condensing boiler and solarincorporation will fall to 51 % of thatrequired today by a normal standardheating system using a low temperature boiler.

The initial parameters for the fourinstallations above are the same: Condensing boiler with room air independent operating mode, installation in a heated sleeve, internal distribution, process waterutilisation without circulation. Effective building area AN = 150 m2

Modern condensing technology

The ROTEX A1 is a ready-to-connectgas condensing boiler with integratedelectronic control system (Theta 23R),modulating gas surface burners, circulation pump and safety group. Theconsistent condensing calorific valueutilisation ensures efficiency values upto 110 % and extremely low toxic emissions.

The low weight, the high levels of corrosion resistance (10 years guarantee against corrosion failure)and the easy to install plastic flue pipesystem make the ROTEX A1 ideal fornew construction and renovationapplications.

We recommend the hygienic ROTEXSanicube hot water storage tank forhot water preparation.

Maximum energy utilisation

All ROTEX A1 gas boilers retain theenergy contained in the water vapourby the use of condensing technologyand thus increase the efficiency andutilisation levels considerably.

Always the correct burneroutput

Depending upon the weather conditions and the utilisation behaviour, the output demand of abuilding varies greatly. Similar to thepulse of a sportsman, the A1 adjustsits output to suit the demand. The internal computer electronics unobtrusively perform the manage-ment of the output for you without theneed for any intervention. Comfort functions such as hot water preparation, weekday programmes andweather controlled regulation of theboiler flow temperature are integrated. High levels of energy utilisation and very environmentallyfriendly operation are the logical consequence of this new development. The correct balance between energy and environment isparamount.
