The North This series of images are a representation of ‘The North’ and what it means to be Northern, they are taken in the north east of England Based of the industry and history of there. There are photographs of the ruins of the old priory in Tynemouth that monks lived in, that contrast with the photographs taken in Durham cathedral in the part of the cathedral called the cloisters, showing the difference between both buildings as they were built a long time apart and how one has become unused and the other is still in full use. There are also photographs representing the history of coal mining in the north east taken at woodhorn, an old colliery that was shut down in 1898, along with this photographs there are images of the Angel of the north in Gateshead that was built in 1998 by Antony Gormley, one of his reasons for building it was that he want to remind everyone about how there used to be coal miners working underneath that site in the dark for two hundred years, and also to try and portray the transformation from the industrial age the north east was once in to the information age it now it.
