Some mes as we head into the long dark days of
our winter, our moods tend to sag, our bodies
creak more, and we find it difficult to want to
leave the house in the blustery chill. That is the
me to muster the energy and join your friends
at the senior center. Avoid isola on and stay
healthy, both physically and mentally, by trying
an exercise class or a new game. Even if you
don’t feel like talking to others, you can sit on a
couch and read or work on a puzzle in the pres‐
ence of others. Ea ng a balanced diet is also im‐
portant to mental health so join us for lunch. If
you are homebound and would like to be added
to our weekly friendly call list or would like meals

The Michigan winters paired with loss can be
especially challenging for seniors. Many who
have lost loved ones and friends may find it diffi‐

hide out un l a er the new year. Be pa ent, and
call them or send a card or an email to let them
know you are thinking of them. Even if the phone
goes to voicemail every me, they are s ll
ge ng that message. If you struggle with the
winter blues, drop in and surround yourself with
smiles and friends at the senior center or contact
Mackenzie for support or helpful resources.
