The next AGM will be at Griffith in May 2019 where some NRVC members are already making plans to attend in

Club cars.

If you are interested please let me know as we will be making accommodation enquiries soon.

Members are reminded to familiarise themselves with their own vehicles before heading out on a run. It has been

reported that a member had to drive his modern and very clean car in the rain last run because he couldn’t find

the key to the locking petrol cap in his Club car. It now comes to light that the cap in the Sweedish Backpackers

Limmo doesn’t take a key and he didn’t know because had not fuelled the car himself previously. Gotta love the

Volvo Neville.

Also around the traps VP Terry has been having a terrible run with starter motors in various vehicles and tractors

that he owns including the Jaguar last Sunday. Not only did it let him down on the way home but Mary had to

jump into action to get them going again. Needless to say Terry won’t be starting anything tonight!

Vice-Presidents Report: Terry thanked members for turning up for the Vice-Presidents run, although it was a

little wet the sun did come out eventually. Terry thanked Ed. Ros for May’s Good Oil newsletter showing many of

the members cars. Awards for the run went to Ruth and Gary Newcombe, Quida Lockwood, Leanne Bambach

and George Browning, Glenn and Natalie Towndrow won the Trophy.

Presidents Report: President Norm reminded members that the A.G.M. will be held in July and that all positions

are vacant. Please let Roslyn and Debbie know if you change your cars or information so we can keep the

members directory up to date.

Editors Report: Thanks for the photos and stories received for the Good Oil. Ros had the chance to purchase

new Supercat Tyres for her Riley due to the upcoming renewal rego slip from one of our Sponsors – Bridgestone

Service Centre at Thornton. Greg the Manager was very helpful, he also enjoys receiving the Good Oil each

month to find out what our members were doing at events.

Thank you very much Greg for all your help, as I also at the same time required new Tyres for my modern (the

Micra). (Roslyn)

Club-Captains Report: Margaret spoke about the upcoming runs and events – Sunday 6th May run to Cams

Wharf, Sunday 20th May run to Dungog, June Long weekend run to Merriwa, 27th May run to Lost in the 50s,

Cessnock Swap Meet on Saturday 11th to Sunday 12th August at Cessnock Showground.

The runs for Dungog, Lost in the 50s and the Mid Week run were also mentioned. President Norm would like the next Committee Meeting to be brought forward 1 week, now to be held on Tuesday 12th June, 2018. At this stage Roslyn is still printing the Good Oil. Members please note that nominations are to be placed in a sealed envelope and given to Debbie or posted to the N.RV.C. P.O. Box 217, New Lambton. NSW. 2305 prior to 7 days before the A.G.M. on Tuesday 3rd July, 2018 . Meeting Closed at 8.05 pm

We were up early making sure all was good and ready for our run to Coolonglook. Esky to be packed, with Snags, Onions, Butter etc. for a BBQ. Going outside to take the Jag to get fuel and Ice, it was already raining. Not knowing if anyone would turn up at Edgeworth Maccas, and thinking Mary and I would be eating sausages for the next month, we were pleasently surprised to see many cars already parked there. All together we had about 30 cars and approximately 60 people attend the run. After a quick chat and the handing out of directions, we set off. We were spread out, but because of Road Works at Beresfield (which we planned) we all caught up. Continuing to Clarencetown Lions Park via Raymond Terrace and Seaham, it rained quite heavy, but the Car Gods were smiling down on us, as the sun came out while we were eating cake, drinking cuppas and chatting. Setting off again, Ken Morris led the pack in his 1963 Ford Compact. I was amongst the first few cars followed closely by Bill and Collene in their B.M.W. It was a good run to Boral and heading towards Bulahdelah, the Sky Scraper in the bush looked spectacular heading over the Bulahdelah Mountains. The memories came flooding back of the times of racing, towing, boiling, breaking down etc. Going quite quick, I thought I might lose the BM, but No, the faster I went, the closer Bill got. I couldn’t shake him, and I think we all had a bit of fun as we arrived at our destination. Our wife’s looked a bit dizzy but were still smiling as were Bill and I. Gazebo’s were erected, table and chairs set up and BBQ lighted, again, the Car Gods looked after us and it stayed dry while we were there. The rare and Valuable Certificates were awarded to Quida, George and Leanne, and Gary and Ruth and the Vice Presidents Trophy was awarded to Glenn and Natalie Townsend. In finishing we had a terrific day with no breakdowns (except for us on the way home) and we would like to thank everyone for coming and all the members that helped making the day a beauty. Cheers from Mary and Terry

Folks, we had a great day today, it was the NRVC Mid-Week run, we had 21 members in 12 cars leave from Maccas at Hexham at 9.30am, to go up to Rudy & June Galea’s Amazing House at Karuah. The last time we went up there, was about 3 years ago, Rudy and June had not long moved, there was no flooring down, walls were in various stages of completion, no railing on the Patio overlooking the River, (there is a story there, Rudy wanted to be able to throw a line in to catch a fish from the Patio, well Rudy better take up casting, and use one of those BIG BEACH RODs, he has hanging on the Wall, with a long fishing line attached. We were all gob smacked at the amount of work done, the memorabilia collected, the wonderful presentation of these Treasures. You really have-to look around, because you will spy them hiding in corners, in Cabinets, on the floor, in Garden beds, on the wall’s.

We loved tour Teapot Pallet fence. Great imagination, who would have thought to make a fence out of Pallets, let alone hang a collection of Tea Pots on it, wonderful. I could go on and on so much to see, enjoy these small selection of photo’s (for more over 140 of them, go to my Facebook page, Collene A. Kalb). Wow, what a view you have from the front Patio, several members enjoyed sitting there, while sipping Morning Tea, thanks for allowing us to be sticky beaks in your home. The Rare and Valuable NRVC Certificate was given to Rudy & June in Appreciation.

Many questions were asked, like, where did you find? lots of Autographed photos on the walls, great collection of Records on the wall, 6 bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, The Man Cave Garage, and the Garden, we explored, with treasures in all of them, the Music room, was a joy, Boats, Bikes, and the Driveway was stunningly painted by June, she would

not let Rudy near a brush. For lunch we went to the Park by the River, and it was right next to Coles Oysters Shop on the River, no prizes for guessing what we had for lunch, where the conversation was did you see “?”. On the way home just down the road, was an Opp Shop, so we had to stop and explore it, lots of bargains were purchased by all we could not resist the bargains. I love my 8 Shot Glasses, they are perfect for de-cantering Ink and paint into. A big Thank you to Rudy & June. The next Mid-Week Run, will be on the 20

Edgeworth at 9.30.

Hi Members, Wow! What a trip, and, unfortunately there was just not enough space in the Riley this year for the three of us to attend Queensland’s Riley National Rally which was held in May at Caloundra. Probably because this is the only year that she has had a human passenger to travel with her in 11 years, still through her eyes we saw a lot, did a lot and had a great 5 days in the company of 2 people from the A.C.T; 32 people from N.S.W; 6 people from N.Z; 50 people from Qld; 10 people from S.A; 4 people from Tasmania; 24 people from Vic; and 8 people from W.A. with a total of 49 Riley Cars with the eldest built in 1928.

Travelling up the Pacific Highway there was quite a lot of road works going on with Queensland realising that they needed more roads for cars to travel on. However the weather was nice and bearable with very little rain. First stop was Coffs Harbour where Ros came across The Big Windmill Motel and Restaurant which was inside the Windmill. The motel was set out very nice and with the restaurant built by a Dutch couple but now served German Food and Wines. On the road again the next stopover was Caboolture, Qld. Here Ros and her friend went through an Historical Village with over 70 buildings all with historic backgrounds, decorated and preserved and fully fitted in the way originally intended. It was really an eye opener, set on 12 acres of land. They enjoyed having a train ride on The “Don Express”. The property is set up with excellent venues for hire for workshops, weddings, family and business celebrations or club meeting. You can find out more about this on www.historicalvillage.com.au On the Saturday and Sunday to fill in time prior to the Rally starting on Monday – they arrived in Caloundra, picked up the keys to the house they rented, unpacked and walked the main street as it is Market Day every Saturday. There was also a huge Collectable Buy and Sell Market held in a large building, where hundreds of people would have gone through in the two days looking at everything from Coins, Pottery, and everyday goods from years ago. Monday morning with the Rally starting and most of the people staying at the Oaks Oasis Resort, we all started gathering and receiving our Rally packs to inform us what we were going to do over the next few days. We were then ready for the Welcome Dinner which included the welcome speech and information on Tuesday’s activities. As there were too many to attend in the one group, this was divided in to Group A, and Group B. However, we all did the same thing. A short walk to the ferry which took us to Pelican Waters Tavern for morning tea. The ferry went all around the water and close up to Bribie Island. After lunch there was Tai Chi, a Gymkhana held on a grassy paddock, then dinner at the Oaks. Now this Gymkhana – well they had a fair bit of rain overnight and early in the morning, however, it was still going to go ahead – but nobody wanted to go first in the car. Well, you all know our Ros, she went up to the head guy and said to him “Well, I’m the odd one out here, would you like me to go first?” Yes Please! So she got in her car and waited for instructions – which was to drive around a corner and busting as many ballons as she could steer to them, being 6 ballons in all – she managed to bust 2. A few minutes later when she was preparing to drive between flags the fellow came up and told her that they had to cancel the event and it was called off. All meals at night were held in the State and Verandah Rooms. Wednesday’s programme was a drive to Koogie Downs followed by a choice of a museum tour or a mini French Cooking School. The French Chef also owned his own business and invited all of us to see his business. Towards lunch it was a drive to Pomona, then to watch a Silent Film and each being given a bag of popcorn to munch on. Thursday Morning Tea was hosted by Blackall Range Horseless Carriage Club when a photo shoot was taken for attending Riley Cars. Lunch where you wanted to go – John and Ros drove to Montville and up towards Flaxton, where they had their French Lunch prior to heading back to the Oaks Resort. The presentation of Trophies were held, with a Tropical Theme where all the ladies and gentlemen attending

. the Rally were dressed up to the hilt with layers of artificial flowers around their necks, on their hair and wherever with some very colourful shirts. Friday’s programme was to Queensland Rileys Clubhouse for a complimentary brunch before starting a return journey home. Coming home via the New England Highway they found far less traffic. Calling in to Glen Innes to take photos of The Australian Standing Stones, Tenterfield they called into the Tenterfield Saddler, Border Line between Queensland and N.S.W. and in Tamworth a visit to The Golden Guitar which is a must stop.

Arriving at Hexham Macca’s on a cool Sunday morning and ready to leave there at 9am, 29 members with 1 visitor, in 18 cars headed towards Raymond Terrace, Clarence Town for morning tea. After a good hot cuppa we then continued north until we reached the main street in Dungog after taking a couple of wrong turns and one car having a few problems. On our arrival at the N.R.M.A. Service Centre, Linda Barrett having driven up in her red Fiat which looked very nice, and accompanied with her daughter Kristen, met up with Tim who very kindly had opened up his business to allow all of us a look around the three tiered workshop. Neville and Debbie arrived shortly afterwards having other commitments in the beginning of the day. Once everyone had time to have a good look around with all there was to see, Tim was presented with the Valuable Thank You certificate which he immediately hung up on one of the walls in his office, and a group photo shoot was taken prior to us going to the Park for lunch and chats. Thank you Linda for organising the run.
