November 2010 The New “Sheriff” In Town By: Cydnee Mebane Newly elected student body president Emilie Holloway has already begun turning the gears in our school. I caught up with Emilie to ask her how she feels about being president and what her thoughts were on changes to our school. C: Hey Emilie! How’s it going? Mind if I ask you a couple of questions? E: Sure! C: So, it’s a big year for you and all the other 8 th graders here at NWMS, but you’ve got the year off to a great start by becoming president! How do you feel? E: I feel like it’s going to be a great year and that it’s a great accomplishment and honor to be president. C: Are you enjoying being the leader of your school? E: Yeah, I am. It’s very challenging. C: Funny, because I remember the first time I met you in 6 th grade! So, like a lot of the 8 th graders, you’ve been here for three years. How do you think you’ve changed from then to now that will make you a good president? E: I feel like I’ve become more responsible and that I’ve learned a lot in the past 2 years. C: Now, let’s be realistic here. Students can’t really make any drastic changes to our school, but they do have some input. What do you think you’ll inquire about to our administrators? E: Well, I want to do more charity things. You know, can food drives, and raise money for a program that student council may soon have. C: Now, if you could make any drastic changes, would you make any? E: Yes. I would definitely make more free time on Fridays because it’s the end of the week and you want to talk to your friends, being able to sit wherever you want in the cafeteria because it’s the only time we get to have a conversation with our friends without getting in trouble. C: Lastly, after this school year, do you think you would run again in high school, or do you think the pressure would be too much? E: I would probably run again in high school because I ran in elementary school and again in middle school. So I have gotten through the pressure twice, how much harder could it be? Well thanks for talking with us Emilie! We’re all going to be cheering you on throughout the year!

The New “Sheriff” In Town

By: Cydnee Mebane

Newly elected student body president Emilie Holloway has already begun turning the gears in our school. I caught up with Emilie to ask her how she feels about being president and what her thoughts were on changes to our school. C: Hey Emilie! How’s it going? Mind if I ask you a couple of questions? E: Sure! C: So, it’s a big year for you and all the other 8

The Ready Set By Katie Holcomb

“And I might drive myself insane if those lips aren’t speaking my name!” As the only band member, 20 year old Jordan Witzigreuter of the band The Ready Set is ready for his MTV debut “Love like Woe.” Here is a little bio on him. When Jordon was 10, he started playing drums. By 14, he was starting to play in bands and he soon became more familiar with other instruments like guitar. He eventually found a way to vent his aggressions and his feelings that he didn’t at the time know how to deal with through writing lyrics.

He started an acoustic duo which then led to the upcoming production of “The Ready Set.” He was a member of a ska band called “Take Sides”, another acoustic band called “BrideandGroom”, and one heavy metal band “Saints Never Surrender”

Jordan then made a MySpace page just for fun. He also put some music he had mixed, written, and played himself. Let’s just say he got lots of comments!

In 2008, The Ready Set released his first album Tantrum Castle. They soon began touring and appearing on MTV. Well, that’s the main story of our soon to be mainstream band The Ready Set!!!

S t a r t O f f J a m m e r By Passion Ford

Q: Do you think that Northwest is getting off to a good

start?

A: Yes, for right now because the teachers are nice, but

sometimes they are not.

Ashanti Nelson, Mountaineers

A: Yes, because we have easy homework, locker breaks,

recess on Fridays, and we have Freedom Fridays.

Andrew Gordon, 49’ers

A: Yes, because it is better than elementary school. We

also have lockers to hold our things. We also have some

encore classes, good teachers, and we get more freedom.

Chris Tomas, Eagles

A: Yes, because I have many of my friends on my team. I

love all my teachers and my classes.

Jamie Sartin, Blue Devils

A: Yes and no, because we already started getting in

trouble. Also, because there’s a lot of stuff getting

started, but yes because the students are getting rewarded

for the good things that we are doing.

Rathel Carter, Aggies

A: I truly think Northwest is getting off to a good start. I

have been here for three years and the students this year

are the friendliest. I’m honored to be a part of the

Northwest Falcons.

Hunter Sprinkle, Rams

A: I believe Northwest is off to a good start. For the most

part, this eighth grade group seems very motivated and

ready to learn. Also, our EOQ data looks good compared

to the system average.

Mrs. Clyburn, Spartans

A: I think Northwest has gotten off to a excellent start this

year. I have seen a lot of students working really hard to

do their best. A positive attitude toward learning can be

contagious and many students are encouraging their

friends to do and be their best.

Mrs. Weber, Rams

A: Yes, I think the year is getting off to an awesome start!

This is my first year on the Blue Devils team and I have

the best students and teachers in the world! I know we

are all going to succeed as one big happy family!

Ms. Moser, Blue Devils

A: Yes, I do. We have a really great staff and the students

here at Northwest are the best in the county! There are so

many positive things happening at our school… Our

students have made growth 5 years in a row and that can

only happen when the adults in the building put children

first. That’s what we do at Northwest.

Mrs. Oakes, Aggies

Bullying

Bullying is a big problem in middle school, and in other ages. When you are bullied, do you tell someone? In middle school you never want to tell on someone. If you go to the Northwest homepage and report on bully patrol, then the person bullying you will be caught and not bully others, and people will never know you have told. That way you won’t be bothered anymore and you won’t be called a “snitch”.
