A NEW SONG, CALLED
The New Garden Fields. On the fourteenth of August being the date
of the year, Down by those New Gardens I met with my
dear, I thought she was a goddess or something
divine That came as a plague or a torment to torture
my mind.
Indeed I am no goddess kind sir she did say, I am pulling those flowers so fine and so gay, I am pulling those flowers that nature does
yield, And I take great delight in those New Gar-
den fields.
Then begging your pardon for making so hold One moment your lilly-white hand for to hold Grant me your love and I will ask no more, I would rather have it than a ton of bright
gold.
She says young man I am afraid you but jest If I thought you were in earnest I would
think myself blest, I t is yonder that my father is coming those
words she did say, So farewell young man, for I must away.
She has gone and she has left men the bon-dage of love,
Kind Cupid assist me, and the powers above Kind Cupid assist me, and do take my part, Forsh e is guilty of murder, for she has won
my heart.
She turned and said young man I pity your moan,
I will leave you no longer to sigh aud oan, My jewel I will go along with you unt some
foreign part, For your the first young man that e'er wo my
heart
