This is Assignment two for the Adult Basic Education and Adult Secondary Education online course through Colorado Mountain College. My name is Yvonne Johnson. My audience members for this presentation are students who need to know about the changes in the new 2014 GED test so they can successfully prepare for it.

(google images)Welcome to this PowerPoint on the New 2014 GED test. We all know that the world has become more green. So has the GED test. In 2014, the GED test will only be offered electronically. You will need a computer, and will need computer and keyboarding skills to complete the test. The test will still consist of multiple choice questions, but instead of 5 choices, there will only be 4. You will also find drop down options, fill in the blanks, and short answers which will be scored on a 3 point scale. 2GED Test Comparisons

(google images)Instead of having paper to work out your answers, you will be given a white board and eraser. The cost of the test will be $30 per test area or $120 for 4 tests. No financial aid, such as the Pell Grant, will be available in 2014.3Reading and Writing

The reading and writing section will remain pretty much the same. The time of the reading portion is still a total of 3 hours. The writing portion is 45 minutes. The new test will not include poetry, and the reading passages will be increased to 450 900 words. For this test, you will not be writing about a subject familiar to you, but create an argument and use information from literary or informational texts to support your argument.4

(google images)The social studies portion of the test will focus on details. You will need to analyze relationships between texts, write analytic responses, and read and interpret graphs and charts. The categories are broken down a bit differently and given different percentage values. The test will now be 90 minutes with a varied amount of extended response questions instead of the usual 50 multiple-choice questions given in 70 minutes.5

(google images)The content topics for science will remain the same: Physical science, life science, and earth and space science. The test focuses on details and your ability to apply scientific theories and processes. There is only a slight change in the percentage of the science portion of the test as you can see. Also, the test is 5 minutes shorter than the current test.

(google images)You will be given only 75 minutes to complete the Mathematics portion of the test. A varied amount of questions will be given. It will have a greater focus on the core skills of mathematics. The Texas Instruments TI-30XS will be the new calculator needed for the test. It is important to have the correct calculator to calculate the problems. You may have to write the problems by hand if you have the wrong one.

There will be two levels to the test. The first level indicates a high school competency which will help with getting a job. The second level indicates college readiness.

You can schedule and register for each test online 24 hours a day any day of the week. This allows you to choose the place and time you want to take them. You can also decide the order in which you would like to take them.

Shortly after completing a test, you will receive your unofficial test results. This will allow you to take the next test area without having to wait for other students to complete their tests. The results also tell your strengths and what you need more focus on. You may begin practicing for the new GED test in the fall of 2013. I wish you the best of luck.
