    Daniel Patrick Boyd (aka Saifullah), 39, a U.S. citizen and N.C. resident Zakariya Boyd (aka Zak), 20, a U.S. citizen and N.C. resident and Daniel Boyds son Dylan Boyd, 22, a U.S. citizen and N.C. resident and Daniel Boyds son Hysen Sherifi, 24, a native of Kosovo and a U.S. legal permanent resident living in N.C.Anes Subasic Anes Subasic, , . . . . Mohammad Omar Aly Hassan, 22, a U.S. citizen and N.C. resident Ziyad Yaghi, 21, a U.S. citizen and N.C. resident Jude Kenan Mohammad, 21, a U.S. citizen believed to be in Pakistan.

    All were charged with conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, as well as conspiracy to murder persons abroad.

    Daniel Boyd, Hysen Sherifi, and Zak Boyd were also charged with possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

    Daniel and Dylan Boyd were charged with selling a firearm to a convicted felon.

    Daniel Boyd was charged with receiving a firearm through interstate commerce and two counts of making false statements in aterrorism investigation.1

    The indictments were followed by raids and arrests on July 27, 2009 involving over 100 law enforcement officers, including fourSWAT teams and an FBI Hostage Rescue Team. FBI spokeswoman Amy Thoreson commented, With what they are accused ofplanning, we wanted to take every precaution.2

    Initial Focus: Overseas Jihad March 11, 2006: Daniel Boyd traveled to Gaza and attempted to enter Palestine in order to introduce his son toindividuals who also believed that violentjihadwas a personal obligation on the part of every good Muslim.

    October 7, 2006: Zi ad Ya hi de arted the U.S. for Jordan to en a e in violent ihad. June 12, 2007: Boyd and his son Zak traveled to Tel Aviv, Israel in an attempt to engage in violent jihad, butwere denied entry and detained for two days.

    June 13, 2007: Zi ad Ya hi and Mohammad Omar Al Hassan de arted Ralei h for Tel Aviv Israel in an attem tu e 3, 00to meet up with the Boyds and engage in violent jihad, but were denied entry.

    When the Boyds returned to the U.S. on July 18, 2007, Daniel lied to Customs and Border Protection

    agents by denying that he had intended to meet up with Ziyad Yaghi and Mohammad Omar Aly Hassan inIsrael.

    He lied again regarding this question during an August 7, 2007 interview.

    DOJ alleged that It was part of the conspiracy that the defendantsand their co-conspirators prepared to become mujahideen and dieshahidthat is, as martyrs in the furtherance of violent jihad.6

    Those participating in the conspiracy believed violent jihad was obligatory, and further believed that should their effortsto fight jihad overseas prove impossible, jihad would take place here in the United States - DOJ 7

    Daniel Patrick Boyd: Background June 1991: Boyd and his brother were accused of robbing

    the United Bank in Hayatabad. An FBI summary of a recordedMay 2009 conversation between Boyd and a witness states:Boyd states that he was hitting the banks in Pakistan. That is

    An FBI summary of a recorded May 2009 conversation between Boyd and awitness states: Boyd states that the fact of the matter is, is that these dopeboys [drug dealers], they be carrying a lot of money. Boyd states that theyshould snatch it from them and use it for the 'sake of Allah.If you take it, sendit to the mujahidinHe wants ten grand and up."

    During the same conversation, Boyd discusses robbing banks to fund jihadand strike the corrupt society: Hitting the Wells Fargo trucks and banks, thatmoney is insured. They have to pay the people who had the money. Thosepeople don't get hurt. The banks get hurt and the banking system is the mainammunition for the Kuffaryou get in and out of a bank in 3 minutes or less,thats a good deal. You get in and out in 2 minutes or less, some of the copscant even react.22

    Daniel Patrick Boyd: Concern with Operational SecurityAn FBI summary of a recorded April 2008 conversation between Boyd and AnesSubasic at Boyds Blackstone Market states: During their discussion, Boyd asks

    , .not to bring it in there because you have to be smart.Anes says he checked thephone, and Boyd replies, no problem. Boyd says he has to be cautious becausehis blood brother, who was a SEAL for 20 years and has worked for theDepartment of Defense for the past 13 years, knows a lot about what they do andwhy they do it. Anes says he knows, too, because the speaker phone on a cellphone can listen in the room when someone is on the line after you think you

    .it could be wired as a transceiver to transmit his cell phone conversations. Subasicsubsequently told Boyd, your store is probably not safe.

    That same day, Boyd used coded language to describe his sons preparednesswhen talking to Subasic: all of those superficial changes dont change what isinside the heart of that car. It is still a Porsche and this one is still a Land Rover.23
