August Book Sales Alert!(Continued from p. 1)

Library staff and Friends’volunteers will be at the Barnes& Noble store in the PromenadeShops in Loveland on Saturday,August 8 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.informing customers aboutlibrary services and the benefitsof being a member of the Friendsof the Library. When customerspurchase merchandise that dayand mention the Friends, we willreceive 10% of that amount.Proceeds will fund upcomingevents such as the AuthorsShowcase. Detailed informationwill be on the Friends’ webpage.

Online sales at the Barnes &Noble website between August 8&15 that include the Friends’book fair ID 11660867 will alsoqualify. Friends’ members areencouraged to tell their friendsand associates about this easyway to support the library.Representatives of the Friends fortwo to three hour shifts areneeded for this event. Teens are organizing a book saleof teen books that have beendonated to the Friends. The salewill be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. onFriday-Saturday, August 14 -15.Proceeds from the sale will bedonated by the Friends to supportteen programs at the library.Cashiers are needed for two-fourhour shifts on both days. Huge Donation To OurUsed Book Sale!

The Friends would like to extenda huge THANK YOU toStephanie Stauder & her husbandfor donating over 10,000 booksthat were remaining since theclosing of their Anthology BookStore. Over the years, they hadpartnered with the Friends andcontributed Anthology’soverstock for our used book

sales. This recent donation haskept the volunteers at the SortingPlace busy. This wonderfulselection of books will beavailable at our fall used booksale.

Library NewsColorado Poet Laureate @

the LibraryColorado Poet Laureate JoeHutchison will present a poetryreading on Friday, August 21 at7:00 p.m. at theLovelandLibrary. Hewill follow upthis event byconducting apoetry writingworkshopentitled "Live in the Layers," onSaturday, August 22 at 10 a.m.

Hutchison, who is the author ofmore than 15 books, lives in themountains southwest of Denver.He teaches at the University ofDenver's University College. InSeptember, 2014, Governor JohnHickenlooper appointed himColorado Poet Laureate.

The poetry reading on Fridayevening is free and open to thepublic. To register for theSaturday workshop, call ThereseTorpy at the Library at970-962-2407. The workshop isfree but donations will beaccepted.

ShowcaseThe Loveland Public Library hasbeen fortunate to be approachedby many local authors who wouldlike to share their work with

Thisshowcase will provide anopportunity for authors to meet,talk with, and sell their books tothe public. (Continued from p. 3)Self-e allows writers to upload anelectronic copy of their books tothe new Biblioboard platform.The author’s book will not onlybe available in the LovelandPublic Library but acrossColorado with other libraries thatsubscribe to the Biblioboardservice. In addition, Self-e ispartnering with Library Journal,which selects titles that arefeatured nationwide. This is agreat opportunity for new andemerging writers to get exposure.

Creator will allow the library topartner with the arts communityin Loveland to highlight artists’works. Artists can submit theirwork to the library in the form ofimages, music files, and videoclips. The Library will curate thematerials and make themavailable on the Biblioboardplatform. We are hoping tohighlight the works of a varietyartists including students and theGuest in the Galleria. Books canbe submitted from the Self-e linkon the Adult Resource page onthe library’s website. Once again Runza Restaurantsare donating 15% of sales onTuesday, August 25, tohometown libraries to purchasechildren’s books. The LovelandRunza is located at 2204 NorthLincoln. Runza has donatedfunds for children’s books formore than 10 years and thelibrary and kids in Lovelandappreciate their ongoing support.

Library Closed August 28for Staff Training

On Friday, August 28, all libraryemployees will be participatingin hands-on training to learn howto use and create with thelibrary’s technology to providebetter customer service. Thelibrary will be closed to thepublic that entire day.

Dahlia Show Returns toLoveland

The Loveland Public Library willhost the Colorado DahliaSociety's northern show, Dahlias,Candy to the Eye, Saturday,September 12 & Sunday,September 13. Two years ago,the show filled the library galleriawith amazing blooms andarrangements and this yearshould be no exception. Theshow is open to the public afterthe judging Saturday morninguntil closing at 6 p.m. andSunday 1- 4 p.m. You don't haveto be a member of the society toshow dahlias. Music, Music, MusicOn Saturday, August 29 at 7p.m., the Library will present“Jazz in the Library - Poetry InMusic”, an evening of chamber-jazz with vibraphonist/percussionist Chris Lee andvocalist/cellist Colleen O'Brien,also known as Primal Mates. Forover 30 years, Chris and Colleen

have been performing musictogether, combining the attentionto composition and form ofchamber music with the freedomand improvisational interplay ofjazz. Bikes, Parades and theLIMO

Look for the Library’s LIMO atthe Corn Roast parade and watchfor bicycle related activities anddisplays in the library in the daysleading up to the Pro Challengebike race that will roar throughLoveland on August 22. TheLIMO, the library’s interactivemobile outreach, has been to thelagoon concerts and the farmers’market at Fairgrounds Park andwill be at the Mehaffey Parkdedication August 1. It will bepopping up around town duringthe national Outside the Lines(OTL) celebration of libraries,September 13-19. The goal ofOTL is to highlight the creativity,innovation and engagementhappening in libraries and toshare that message in fun waysoutside the library.

Health TalksPsychologist Dr. Andrea Kulbergwill be discussing anxiety, panicand OCD on Monday, August31. On September 21 at 6:30p.m., she will discuss healthyfamily boundaries. She willdiscuss how to develop healthypatterns of interaction to build amore functional family.

Dr. Jared Dawson’s topic for his6:30 p.m. talk on August 27 willbe building a stronger immunity

before returning to school. Hewill also present on September18. The topic is to be announced.

Nature TalksKevin Cook’s nature programsthis year focus on writers ofColorado. These presentationsare the first Tuesday of the monthat 12 noon and 2 p.m. and thefirst Wednesday at 6 p.m. Topicsinclude Ann Swinger, author ofBeyond the Aspen Grove and C.F. Mutel and John Emerick,authors of From Grassland toGlacier. 962-2401.

Dr. Kathy Keeler, the WanderingBotanist, presents fascinatingstories about familiar plants onWednesday, August 19 at 6:30p.m. Rabbitbrush, watermelonsand more are the topic. TeaInk Writers (9/1) and AnimeJunkies (9/16.) Teens areencouraged to attend the TeenAdvisory Board meeting onThursday, September 24 at 4p.m. to help plan programmingand suggest additions to the teencollection. Volunteers WantedWe are looking for volunteers tobe interviewed to help develop amarketing plan for the AdultServices division. Volunteers willbe interviewed by a CSU studentworking to develop the plan. Theinterview should take about 20minutes. Kids Read would like to extend aheartfelt Thank You! to theFriends of the Library. With yoursupport, our dedicated BuddyReading volunteers haveprovided positive readingexperiences for more than 200young readers at four differentsites in the Loveland community.

Donations Needed forMemorial

The "Remembering PattyGoodwine" memorial piecedesignated for placement at theLibrary will be fabricated by hersister, Euleta Palser. Patty was oneof two people who lost their livesin the Big Thompson CanyonFlood in September of 2013. Shehad worked as the library’sadministrative assistant for over 30years.

Euleta Palser’s personal belongs,plus all of her tools and mosaicinventory were lost to the river soshe has been collecting ceramics touse for this memorial project.Anyone wanting to donate dishes(especially in red shades) andbroken or chipped ceramic flowerpots can dropthem off at thegreeter desk atthe libraryentrance.

The"Remembering Patty Goodwine"memorial account at the HomeState Bank is still acceptingdonations for contributions to thisproject. 962-2404.

Events for ChildrenAfter the hectic pace of the 8week summer reading program,staff in the children’s area don’tplan as many special programsin August but do continue theHumpty Dumpty, Toddler andPreschool Storytimes on theregular schedule.The times andthemes as well as the Waggin’Tales schedule are on theenclosed library calendar.

Chess Club will not meetbetween August 9 andSeptember 7 and will resumeon Tuesday September 8 from4:00 -5:30 p.m.

School Out Science onTuesday, September 8 from11:30 a.m.-1p.m. will focus onthe power of the sun.

In September, Brickmasters, theonce a month Lego buildingworkshop, will start again onSaturday, September 19 withsessions from 10 a.m.-12 noonand 1-3 p.m. 962-2587.

Return to Fall ScheduleThe library will be closed Sunday,September 6 and Monday,September 7 for the Labor Dayholiday. Sunday afternoon hoursbegin Sunday, September 13 from1 - 5 p.m.
