NRCF
What is NRCF? • One of six national centres
• NRCF, KRC, NRCB, NCM, CETIS, NATDID • Support teachers at all school levels:
• Vision: Inspire, connect national and international • Goals: Professional development; simulate
methodological and didactical development; make visible physics in society; support communication between teachers and researchers; develop, review and spread teaching material (research informed); etc.
• Mission: Increase interest for physics and science; reform teaching physics, support professional development

NRCF
How’s financing NRCF? • Utbildningsdepartementet, • Skolverket, • LU and, • LTH

What do we do?
Up till today: • Many resources on our web page: fysik.org • Built up over many years!
• Thanks, Ann-Marie! • Broad spectrum of activities and levels!
• Nationellt ResursCentrum för Fysik (NRCF)
• Teacher Education
• Lund University Physic Education Research group (LUPER group)

What do we do?
For the future: • Focus on:
• ”Modern physics” • Astronomy • Learning the language of physics • Multidimensional thinking • Time
• Nationellt ResursCentrum för Fysik (NRCF)
• Teacher Education
• Lund University Physic Education Research group (LUPER group)
Teacher Education
We are involved in two teacher programs:
• Physics teacher program (the long program) • Handles both physics courses and physics
education courses. • Strongly connected to both physics and education
research • This program is subject to substantial change
• KPU (the short program) • We are responsible for the STEM education and
VFU.

LUPER
A ”new” research group at the Physics department.
• Physics Education Research (PER) (sv. Fysikdidaktisk forskning)
• Research! • Not physics education! • Research on teaching and learning physics. • Long tradition, originated in the USA in the -60s. • Developed and spread over the whole world.
• Two PER groups in Sweden (LU and UU) focusing primarily on university level students.
• Related fields: Astronomy Education Research, Biology Education Research, Chemistry Education Research, Mathematics Education Research, etc.
• Nationellt ResursCentrum för Fysik (NRCF)
• Teacher Education
• Lund University Physic Education Research group (LUPER group)
LUPER
What do we do?
• PER combine and integrate theories of learning, the knowledge and practices of physics, and teaching and learning experiences
• Nationellt ResursCentrum för Fysik (NRCF)
• Teacher Education

LUPER
This representation illustrates the trinity what we see as a requirement for LUPER. Teaching the discipline involves both university level and school levels, Discipline Research gives invaluable insight into the disciplinary discourse and its hurdles, and Education Research by someone who understands the discipline from a teacher, researcher (knowledgeable in both the discipline and education) and student perspective.

LUPER
What do we do?
• PER combine and integrate theories of learning, the knowledge and practices of physics, and teaching and learning experiences.
• Theoretical framework: • Social Semiotics in Physics Education
• Learning physics is like learning a new language, built by the many semiotic resources (representations, tools and activities) used within the discipline.
• Communication using semiotic resources is prerequisite for learning.
• Publish in international journal such as Physical Review Physics Education Research, American Journal of Physics, European Journal of Physics, Physics Education, Science Education, etc.

Research focus:
• Our contribution to the social semiotic ”pussel” involves disciplinary discernment of affordances from semiotic resources, and in particularly extrapolating three-dimensionality from 1D och 2D representations.
• The universum is 4D and to learn to understand physics/astronomi students need to come to appreciate and understand it as 4D. Here, space and time are concepts found hard for students understand.
• Simulations and animation are found to be useful tools to enhance learning and understanding of phenomena in the universum at all scales.
• This ”pussel" in not finished yet and no one knows how many pieces there are, but it progresses and its success can be seen in the increased use worldwide by the PER community.
