The Mysteriousand InterestingGame of InternetPoker
Poker has proven to be the most
interesting game that is sweeping the
world by storm with its contagious excitement and popularity. It’s actually the most popular
online casino game that ever existed, and it awards great players with pots of money at the
end of every hand!
However, regardless of the popularity of poker, its origins remain a mystery. The poker
game greatly resembles an ancient Persian game while the name is derived from French,
German and Dutch origins. It could be possible that many earlier games influenced the poker
that we know and love today.
According to some reports, poker was played as early as 1829 in New Orleans with a small
deck that had only 20 cards where four players bet on whose hand was the most valuable. The
game then spread to the rest of the country through the Mississippi riverboat system, where
gambling was a very common past time. The game spread quickly during the gold rush and
became the game we know today.
It wasn’t long when the 52-card deck was used and many variations have started showing up
while new hands were added to the game during the American Civil War. These include the
Flush, Draw Poker, Stud Poker and the Straight. After that, more and more variations were
created including Wild Card, Low Ball, Split-pot poker and community card poker games.
The most popular community card poker game is Texas Hold’em.
Now, poker and park jargon have played an important part in the American and English
Culture. You can now hear people say ace in the hole, ace up your sleeve, beats me, blue
chip, call my bluff, cash in, high roller, pass the buck, poker face, stack up, up the ante, when
the chips are down and so on are used in common day conversations. Even people who aren’t
even familiar with the game use them.
Currently, poker tournaments are the most popularly watched card game thanks to the
technology of television. Tournaments are normally played in Texas Hold’em-style poker and
the World Series of Poker keeps the game popular and attractive for many people.
